Vikings hope to send Kleinsasser off in style

AP

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says that he’s hoping to send retiring tight end Jim Kleinsasser off in style on Sunday by incorporating him into the offensive game plan and, Frazier hopes, getting him a touchdown.

“No doubt about it,” Frazier told the Star Tribune. “I’m not letting out any secrets there. If we get down to the 1, Chicago, you better stop number 40. We’re going to find a way to try to get him into the end zone if we can.”

Kleinsasser touched the ball only once this year, a four-yard catch. But Frazier says he’d love to see Kleinsasser’s eighth career touchdown on Sunday.

“He’s someone you can always count on,” Frazier said. “You know he’s going to come to work prepared, ready to do his job. He’s a tremendous example for any young player.”

At the end of a season in which almost everything has gone wrong for the Vikings, an appropriate sendoff for Kleinsasser is one thing they may do right.

  1. Maybe all the vikings should have been talking retirement from week one, since that’s the only time they PLAN on scoring. And hey next year don’t wait till week 17 to mix it up and spread the ball around…but I guess better late than never. Way to go number 40 can you take ziggy, fraizer, and ponder with you?

  2. And what better way to get the guy a touchdown than to TELL THE DEFENSE WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO.

    Morons.

  3. Good plan maddenwiz, if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that instability leads to winning in the NFL.

  4. I would say the Vikings will win out against this current Bears team even though both teams suck right now but without AP that’s not a guarantee.

Would be nice to see Da Bears go 7-9 though…

  5. last game this weeken for Kleinsasser and Jason Taylor

I hope they hope have good games and stay healthy

    two good guys!

good luck and stay thirsty my friends

  6. Wait a minute …… he’s getting paid THREE MILLION DOLLARS this year, to make ONE catch?????

Dude has 13 seasons in the NFL, with just 8 TDs to show for it?

    And the Vikings wonder why they’re a train-wreck of a franchise …….

  7. Always liked this guy. In a league where many of the star TE’s are nothing more than overweight WR’s, Kleinsausser always stuck out in my mind as the working man’s TE. Toiling away on the line, getting it done without the flash or recognition.

  8. it does not matter that he told the bears what he plans on doing as Lovie will not make the adjusments needed to cover the guy. if what they have planned is not in his game plan to stop then you can be sure the vikings will get him the td. that has been the biggest problem with Lovie during his time as coach. he has a system and will not change it no matter what. you can go back to the playoff game against the panthers when steve smith torched them and he would not let rivera make any changes to stop it. that is whay he and martz get along so well as they both believe their systems are perfect and will not change.

  9. Jimmy has always been a Vike. Always will be. I’ll miss watching him. Thanks Jimmy!!! If he gets a touch I’m going to watch old episodes of captain caveman on youtube in celebration.

  10. One of my favorite guys in the NFL. The guy is an old school type of player and you can’t help but like him. Good luck Klein”haus”er.

  11. dude did his job as a blocking TE very well, did not miss

congrats on an excellent career and being a quiet leader

  12. I have to agree with richm2256. In my opinion, Kleinsasser has been nothing more than a glorified offensive lineman. He has been vastly overrated for the last 13 years (has it been that long?).

He was supposed to be this amazing pass-catching tight end. For those of us who have watched him over his entire career, the one thing we realized was that he had issues in that area.

Kyle Rudolph in one year already has more than 25% of the total TDs that Kleinsasser has had in his entire career, and Rudolph is more than capable in the blocking department. Rudolph is what Kleinsasser was supposed to be.

I am just glad we will have $3 million more in cap space next year.

Dude he is basically a fullback/blocking tight end. He is not suppose to touch the ball. And he is damn good at his blocking too. Ask all of the 1000 yard rushers he blocked for, cuz there are a lot of them.

  14. @wilnel1984; Thanks.

For any of you supposed “football fans” who gave a thumbs down to either of these posts, ask yourself how the Patriots have gotten 21 touchdowns out of two tight ends this season alone.

In five fewer seasons, Jason Whitten has over 40 TDs. Dallas Clark in four fewer seasons has 45.

    This guy has SEVEN?

Again, THREE MILLION this year, to catch ONE pass??????

  15. You don’t have to catch a lot of balls to be a good TE, but it helps.

Dude averaged less than 8 touches a season over the last 6 years. He may be a really good blocker, but that’s incredibly one-dimensional.

Again, the guy is a FB/OL that wears a TE #….there is more to an offense than just catching or throwing TD’s….

  17. Some of you are so dumb you clearly don’t know anything about football.

    1. Kleinsasser is NOT is a pass catching TE. His nitch is run blocking.

    2. What is wrong with trying to get him a TD in his final game as a pro? Somebody who has been with the Vikings since 1998? It’s not like this game means anything to the Vikings or Bears. Let him get his final game on a positive note

Of course some of you Bear fans might still be bitter Kleinsasser had 2 TDs vs you on a Sunday night game in 2003.

Hey, I just finished printing off some Packer stock. Deal just for you – half off at $125. Heck, I will throw in 15 more shares (theyre all worth the same to me). YOU CANT PASS THIS UP!

  19. @richm2256

no, he was paid THREE MILLION DOLLARS this year to put linebackers and defensive linemen on their asses. A job he’s been great at for over a decade. Clearly you have little understanding of offensive schemes and football in general if you are comparing a blocking tight end’s touchdown total to those of receiving tight ends.

  20. what if?
the vikes score a game winning td with kleinsasser outrunning the bears JUST like NDSU?
that would be a hell of a “goodbye” ceremony

  21. Didn’t they try to to do that with that guy named Favre?

I just want to know whos going to break the news to Jared Allen, that he probably won’t make the playoffs before he is done playing as long as he is staying in Minny. after Petersons injury.

    ===================================

Maybe it’s time to come out from underneath your sisters skirt then…if you tried to tackle him, you’d be left on life support !

  23. Screw it, let’s just put the Saucenator and Toby back there in a pro set and just run dives all day and beat the living hell out of their Defense. Go Joe Lewis style and power punch them. Doesn’t matter if they put 11 guys in the box, they will get beat down… of course this is just a pipe dream but I think it would be rather interesting if they did it.

  24. For all of you idiots putting down Saucer it’s like saying Emmit Smith and Barry Sanders were never good Running Backs. The guy is in a league of his own when it comes to Blocking as a TE and FB. Think of Lorenzo O’neal at FB (maybe not as good as Zo because Zo was a sledge hammer but you get the idea) and … well, the only TE that blocked as well as Jimmy is Jimmy himself. He could have been the only 270 lb tackle in the league. I honestly think he is the best blocking tight end ever… but don’t give him the ball, it’s kinda like watching an Ox run down the field.

  25. Just another lavender Larry player who knows he bamboozled the sad sack vikequeens who don’t know any better out of millions with his marginal talent.
