Brian Schottenheimer: If you’re a coach, you’re going to get fired

Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer knows there are reports that he’s in line to get fired at the end of a disappointing season. But he says he’s not worried about that.

“I’ve been fired before,” Schottenheimer said, in comments distributed by the team. “If you get into this profession, you’re going to get fired. The guys that sit there and worry about it are generally the guys that end up getting fired, because they are sitting there worried about it.”

Schottenheimer noted that his father, Marty Schottenheimer, was fired by the Chargers after a 14-2 season, so he’s well aware that every coach’s job is always on the line. But he doesn’t think about that during the season.

“You don’t have time to worry about it,” Schottenheimer said. “It’s out of my control. I’m an excellent football coach.”

And he may be an out of work coach in a few days.
