Jared Allen moves to within one-half sack of the record

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen entered the day four sacks behind Michael Strahan’s “record” of 22.5.

Allen is now only 0.5 sacks behind Strahan.

With 3.5 sacks and counting against the Bears, Allen needs only one more to set the all-time single-season record.  Some would say he already has it, given that Strahan’s record-setter came when Brett Favre gave Strahan a gift.

Maybe Josh McCown will do the same thing for Allen.

  1. Very immature how this guy keeps doing *22.5 for Strahans record. If were gonna do that, how about putting an asterisk on any record made when teams are sitting their starters in week 16 or 17, or against a team who is without their best player or two due to injury? Serioisly where does it end? Did he take PED’s and I’m missing it? We’re not in grade school, he earned the record all year long just as anyone who set a record non-PED induced

  2. Jared Allen is an absolute beast. BEST DEFENSIVE LINEMAN IN THE NFL. I hope he gets it, and there won’t be an asterisk next to his name. Great player. Fun to watch. Congrats.

  3. I hope that Allen breaks the record, but I had to refresh my memory, so I just looked at a clip of Strahan’s record-breaker, and I have to think, “What could Favre do there?” He was DEFINITELY going to be caught, and maybe hurt. A lot of QB’s would rightly go down in that situation.

  4. As a Giants fan that started my intense hatred of Favre. Too bad Stra didn’t get to play against the Bears O line twice that season or the Favre situation wouldn’t have occurred.

  5. Since Favre laid down for Strahan, I consider Allen the single season sack leader.

  6. Jared Allen must have taken the ooze from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II movie.

    The dude is unstoppable.

  7. I really want Jared Allen to have the record because I am tired of hearing about how Favre “gave” Strahan the record!!!

  8. That was a big gift from favre to strahan

    Bottom line:
If allen breaks it, its even more legit than michael’s tooth gap

  9. Not a vikings fan or a giants hater but j. allen deserves the record as there’s no question that favre handed a gift to strahan on his “record setting sack*”

  10. The writer of this article is such a homer. Him and Paul Allen (the Vikings horrible radio announcer) have happy time together weekly.

  11. Gotta love it when a pencil necked dork takes a shot at one of the best to ever play the game. Thank you internet!

  12. Brett Favre laying down for Stray was the lamest b.s. to pollute the NFL recordbook, since I don’t know what.

Only Favre would be narcissistic enough to insert himself into that situation and basically contaminate a proud record.

While on the topic of Favre, how about his passive-aggressive assault on Rodgers a bit ago? Favre claims Aaron Rodgers is a fine QB but is astonished Rodgers couldn’t win a Super Bowl sooner after learning from Favre.

All accounts were that Favre selfishly tried to keep Rodgers down – not help him. Oh, and Favre won one in 20 years – Rodgers is doing just fine, Brett.

The problem with your theory, is that Strahan and Favre talked about it before the play and decided that’s how they would do it to get Strahan the record. So yeah, Strahan does not deserve the record that currently is listed in his name… so the astrik makes sense.

  14. Congrats to Jared Allen on tying the NFL record for EARNED sacks. Allen earned every sack he recorded nobody layed down for him. The NFL record books may show Strahan has the record at 22.5 total sacks, and this is true however 21.5 are earned and 1 was unearnd.
