Not that anyone will see this post... being 100 miles down the page on an old story but...

This years Packer team reminds me of the 1998 Viking team that went 15-1. Unbelievably fun to watch Offense... no Defense.

As a Viking then NFC North fan I say... "try to keep them off the field Aaron".

Go Pack and go Lions!

Thank You Packerfan on the response,
It was a frustrating way to see the Badgers go down, but I think the coach is guilty on that one.

I totally agree with you on your analysis of McCarthy letting Rodgers do a lot of the playcalling with Flynn. That shows humility, trust and McCarthy acknowledging Rodgers is one very intelligent person.
Not taking anything away from Flynn. He will be an outstanding QB in the NFL. But without Rodgers helping and encouraging him on the sidelines, he would not have had the success he did. They are both a great team, "partners in crime" both on and off the field.
I just got done watching a taped Larry McCarren show. Flynn was the guest. He said him and Rodgers are best friends. Flynn said when he threw that 5th TD and came to the sidelines, Rodgers was laughing and joking with him. Rodgers said dude, you get the chance you have to go for #6! Flynn didn't dissapoint him. That's the kind of unselfish relationship those two have. That shows why Rodgers deserves to be MVP. He does so many unselfish things that go unnoticed. Without Rodgers guidance and help, Flynn would not have had the record breaking performance.
It will be sad to see them split, but Flynn will make someone one great QB because he learned from the greatest.

122u --- I agree with your analysis on the Badgers clock subject.

I'm pretty much exclusively a pro NFL fan. So I'm curious ... in the college game, is the QB's helment equipped with sound from the coach? If so, then it's on the coach.

BTWay ... I think Green Bay's idea to delegate lots of offensive play calling to Aaron in last Sunday's Lion's game is a stroke of genius. It keeps Aaron razor sharp mentally. It shows tremendous humility on the part of the coach. Great teamwork. Great creativity. This Packer organization impresses on lots and lots of dimensions.

And why is it that no one acknowledge the fact the Packers only had one drop against the Lions which would be an anomaly for the Pack.

This post is almost done so I have one off-topic question for someone that may have watched the Rose Bowl. Not that Wisconsin deserved to win that game. Their defense reminded me of the Packers D on a very bad day :) But they had a slight chance at the end and didn't take advantage of it. They got down to Oregons 20 yardline on a big first down with the clock ticking down to 2 seconds when it was stopped to reset the chains. Then Russel Wilson goes to snap the ball to the ground when the ref gave the signal to start the clock. By the time he gets the ball from the center and throws it to the ground game over time runs out!! For the life of me, why the hell would you do something so F'n stupid. If by some miracle he would have been lucky enough to beat the clock he would have had to fire a play into the endzone anyhow on the next play. Why wouldn't you just call a quick play as you were lining up and when the ref gives the signal to start the clock, snap the ball and you have all the time in the world to throw the ball into the endzone for that miracle grab?? I don't understand that one bit what they did. It seems like a major brainfart on someone's part!

Frank Booth is spot on!!!

For those cutting on Rodgers look into the Vikings season a little, Christian Ponder looked pretty good in his first start of the season too, but obviously that didn’t last too long. No film to gameplan against makes a lot of QBs look better than they are.
——

This has to be a joke. Folks this Majikbullet character was the biggest Packer Hater imaginable up until last year. This clown was calling for the firing of Thompson for EVER. He loathed Aaron Rodgers and stated he was a Viking fan because Favre was there and would remain one due to their superior front office. I’ll leave it at that. I knew he would be a Packer fan again. Just like I knew many other prognostications of my own would come true. With that I bid you a warm welcome back. Toota lu!
==================

Easy pal, I felt like you last year, and when they switched the system up last year and you had to re register I chose to take his name to get under his skin. Just relax, not the same guy!

I’m going to guess that Ted Thompson is going to invent a way to get significant trade value for Matt Flynn while trying to keep him away from Minnesota and Chicago. It would be nice to see him land in the AFC, actually.

Everyone seems to think they need to use the lousy franchise tag, they are assuming is for Finley on Flynn. I don't think they will use it on either one. I honestly don't think Finley is much more than a big WR who has dropsie problems. I prefer Crabtree over him for TE. Crabtree is an animal. He can block and catch. Maybe he's not quite as quick at getting open but he can catch. We have many WR's that are capable of getting open :) I see Finley being shown the door.
    Back to Flynn:
I can definitely see TT working out a way to sign him and giving him an average starters contract. That is one way I can see them holding him for trade bait and the route I think Thompson will go with Flynn. Where do I think he might go? I think The Chiefs would be a good place. As far as Minnesota, I'd give him to Minnesota for Adrian Peterson :) Don't be at all surprised if he ends up in Dallas, either. He was born and raised down there, Qb'd for the LSU Tigers and his family is in Texas. Believe me Texans love their own and he would be an immediate favorite with Tony Romo having another so-so season. The funny thing that most people don't realize is Tony Romo is from Burlington Wi and played for Eastern Illinois. Romo for backup, lol. No, I'd rather keep Harrell and get a defensive stud or #1 draft pick from Dallas. Just a few thoughts, but #1 I'd definitely find a way to sign him so I could get value for him and I'm sure that's what TT is thinking!

I'll leave it at that. I knew he would be a Packer fan again. Just like I knew many other prognostications of my own would come true. With that I bid you a warm welcome back. Toota lu!

I’m going to guess that Ted Thompson is going to invent a way to get significant trade value for Matt Flynn while trying to keep him away from Minnesota and Chicago. It would be nice to see him land in the AFC, actually.

I was at the early August 2008 intra-squad game at Lambeau. Three QBs played in that scrimmage: Aaron, the second string guy (whose name I can’t remember and can’t find on GBay’s web site), and 3rd string rookie Matt. That scrimmage was played as Brett was landing at the Green Bay airport just before his trade to the Jets was arranged. My untrained-eye impression that evening: none of the three QBs completed many passes in the scrimmage, but the strongest, most decisive throws definitely came from Matt Flynn.

------------------------------------------------

That second string guy was Brian Brohm -- a second round draft pick the year Flynn was selected in the 7th -- no doubt sitting at home now saying "why not me!?"

Last I checked, Jordy Nelson, Jermichael Finley and Ryan Grant all played. So "Packers reserves" isn't entirely true. Not going to argue too much, though. The Lions D gave up way too many big plays in this one.

The Lions were missing Corey Williams, Best, LeShoure and Delmas. I guess the Lions had their reserves out there too. It's just that Green Bay won the Super Bowl last year with Jennings, Finley and Grant out.

Truthfully, the Lions secondary was exposed in a big way, but something doesn't make sense: How can you go from shutting down a red hot Philip Rivers to getting torched by Matt Flynn?

The most frustrating thing about this is the fact that Stafford accomplished something that only 3 other Quarterbacks in the history of the game have done and it was overshadowed by a backup QB (who will be overpaid next season) torching an inept defense.

Food for thought. Drew Brees has completed 125 more passes than Rodgers this year but he also attempted almost 160 more passes.

If Rodgers had kept up with those crazy numbers he would have thrown for almost 6000 yards at his current 9.2 yards per pass average. Most likely more INT's obviously, but a crapload more TD's as well.

I just think Rodgers did more with his attempts this year than Brees, plus Rodgers missed one game and sat out another 3/4 of a game because of being pulled late in blowouts.

Both are deserving, but Rodgers should be MVP this year.

There are two ways to look at these kind of games.
#1. From the fans perspective- Lions Defense was terrible getting torched for 45 points by the Pack reserves. They will surely get their butts kicked in New Orleans next week with the Saints playing their first string. That is what Vegas wants you to think :)

#2. From the High Stakes Gambler: Both teams accomplished what they wanted. GB kept their starters healthy and Detroit didn't show anything by playing a vanilla defense. Hmmm, Could it be Detroit really wanted to play New Orleans in a warm dome over the Giants? I wonder what the spread is on this one? Everyone should be betting on New Orleans to cover it easily? From prior experience these ones usually go the opposite and perhaps Detroit might even win outright? A lot of money and hype to be made on a rematch in Lambeau? Just a thought :)

Any team that needs a decent QB will trade for him before he hits the open market.

And the Brees-Rodgers MVP discussion was settled in week 1. So soon you forget.
=======================

MVPs aren't decided in week 1.

The rules won't allow the Packers to trade Flynn before he becomes a free agent without a tag on the player. It would be tough to franchise tag Flynn because he's not worth the average of the top five QBs in the league. Other teams know this and know the Packers couldn't keep him with such a tag.

For those jumping on the Flynn bandwagon keep these QBs, who also showed similiar but breif displays of brilliance, in mind: Kevin Kolb, Matt Cassell, Rob Johnson, Derek Anderson & Scott Mitchell. Things change when teams have tape on you and have a chance to game plan against you.

One other thing I have to say:
It was kind of cool seeing #12 being the clipboard/waterboy for Flynn. That just shows what kind of a humble person Aaron Rodgers is. I think #4 would have had a hissyfit if that happened to him in the last game and he wasn't able to pad his stats and get his 5,000 yards. Flynn and Rodgers are very good friends and it will be sad to see them part. But it is something that has to be. Aaron Rodgers understands and wishes nothing but the best for his friend and we need to as well. We have another good, young quality QB in Graham Harrell who isn't too shabby so we will be ok.

I must say, I really enjoyed this game and found much pleasure out of the Packers Reserves beating the Lions after all the trashtalk this week. It don't get no better Packfans!!
As far as the Defense, We heard it all year long by jealous crybabies. Oh they suck, you will get beat next week, blah blah blah! The bottomline is they don't need a defense with that kind of offense and when they do, The D seems to rise to the occasion.
How bout that Jordy Nelson, eh! Pretty fly for a whiteboy. Not to sound racist, but country-boy whiteboys aint sposed to be doin that, lol.
Then there is Flynn! Wow is all I got to say!! I knew he had it in him after watching him against New England last season. But in this game, he was handed pretty much a reserve team and still managed to turn in a spectacular performance and finish it! Who would I prefer for a franchise QB?? Flynn or Luck?? Your call on this one but usually rookies take time to develop and sometimes they never do. I would much rather have a proven young star in the making with NFL experience showing he can play, especially with a RESERVE TEAM!
It was a great game to see. The Pack has sent to division rivals to their graves in the past two weeks. All I have to say is NEXT!!
All you Packer Haters remember this:

The Road To The Superbowl
Goes Through Lambeau Field
The Lombardi Trophy
Is In Green Bay

Where It's Gonna Stay!

Anyone who calls Aaron Rodgers (or any QB for that matter) a "system quarterback" after his back-up has one great game is a complete idiot.

Based on that logic, if Flynn had performed badly, I guess we'd have to assume that the Packers run an absolutely horrible system and Rodgers just happens to transcend it.

Aaron Rodgers didn't have the best single-season passer rating of all time by being a system quarterback, if there is even such a thing. He's been incredibly accurate and throws very few interceptions. I guess the Colts must run a horrible system since no other QB's have been able to even play adequately within it.

Apparently Frank Reich proved that Jim Kelly was a system QB when he stepped in and brought Buffalo back from a 35-3 defecit in 1993.

Which teams have the best systems, where you can just plug in one QB after the other, regardless of their talent? I haven't seen one. The geniuses out there sure talk about it a lot, but no one can provide an example. And to try and use Matt Flynn's single game performance as evidence that Aaron Rodgers is just average is silly. Try turning on the TV and watch a game every once in a while.

Also, anyone notice that every time the Lions lose a game, it's the refs fault? I need to get the Detroit fans perspective right:

-Suh isn't dirty

-If a backup quarterback performs well in one game, it proves that the starter is just average and is good because of the system

-All Detroit losses are due to the referees or some other outside force

-Matt Stafford is the toughest QB ever, even though he's missed 19 out of 48 starts due to injury

-Detroit is actually a very nice city

-Matt Stafford is the toughest QB ever, even though he’s missed 19 out of 48 starts due to injury

-Detroit is actually a very nice city

Motor City Kitty fans forget that terrible call where the dude juggled it out of bounds and was challenged and not overturned.

Complain about the officials but just remember the Packers beat them without thier 3 best players on the field.

Yeah totally zebras fault they lost that game.

Packers by a TD over the Pats in the big game!
Would love to see Flynn in San Fran…
*************************

You see the Packers beating the Saints? Really? With that defense?
==============
LOL.....if you would do your research you would see that both the Saints and Packers give up 21 points per game, last time I checked that was all that matters.

And the Saints aren't the same team on the road, ask St. Louis and Tampa Bay, as well as Seattle last year, and this time when they go to GB it won't be 75 out, it's January and the Saints will struggle to win on the road in any outdoor stadium in January.

So to answer your question yes, I see the Packers winning at home, if the game was in NO, then might answer would probably be different. Do your research before you look like a fool!

I knew this post would turn into a "Rodgers is not really that good" thread.

The fact is, we'll never know if Chase Daniel could have thrown for 300 yds and 3 TDs today vs. Carolina's HORRIBLE defense, because only Mike McCarthy has the confidence in his system/backup to put his guy out there. He prepared Aaron for the game, let him call the plays in the first half, so it's not like Rodgers will be "rusty" in 2 weeks. But the coach understood what other coaches don't, that if you're going to play your back ups, you might as well play them the whole game. None of this, Rodgers plays 2 series B.S. What's the point in that? If you want your 2nd String QB to play a lot, prepare him to start, and go out there and give it your best shot.

And, for the 15th time out of 16 games this year, the Packers' best shot was better than their opponents.

Oh, and one more thing, I think the Packers offense can function just fine in January in Green Bay. Since December 4th they have scored 38 at NYG, 46 at home vs. Oakland, stumbled to 14 at KC, scored 35 against the Bears (Flynn played the entire 4th qtr in that game too, mostly just hand offs though), and 45 vs. Detroit.

The Saints aren't the only team that can ring up the points.
