Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Falcons tight end finalized a one-year, $7 million extension with Atlanta on Saturday. He’ll be back for his 16th NFL season.
It was believed Gonzo could retire, but he’s clearly still able to play at a high level. He has 79 catches for 867 yards and seven touchdowns this year, which is better than his production the previous two years.
UPDATE 1:23 p.m. ET: The Falcons confirmed the one-year deal.

Gonzo….He keeps going…and going…and going.
wonder if he will retire if they make a run and win the super bowl. then again 7 mil is a lot of money
Lots of KC fans hoping to see him win some playoff games.
This is a smart move by the falcons. I believe they will draft a tight end also. This buys the rookie time to adjust to the speed of the nfl, and get stellar help from a future hall of famer
He earned it.The best TE in NFL history.
Best tight end I’ve ever seen. His extreme durability and how well he’s taken care of himself are truly a marvel.
an awesome TE, maybe the best ever. he’s not winning a SB with atanta though, not with rodgers and brees in the same conference.
Well earned!!! He is the best TE I’be seen since Kellen Winslow SENIOR. He has set a great example for others to follow, good to know he will be back…..
The man is a true class act — deserves every penny, nice to see him taken care of; but then I wouldn’t expect less from the Falcons. Sure is a much better organization since Mr. Blank took over.
Good decision on the Falcons part. Class act and great teammate.
Great player, person, needs to play for a contender
