The Cardinals’ quarterback-receiver connection of John Skelton and Larry Fitzgerald led Arizona to a season-ending 23-20 win over Seattle on Sunday, and both players were ailing.
Larry Fitzgerald Sr. wrote on Twitter after the game that his son had a lung injury.
“Cardinals Pro Bowler Larry Fitzgerald suffered a Lung injury was spitting up blood on sidelines. Will have MRI MONDAY,” Fitzgerald Sr. wrote.
It’s not clear when this lung injury took place, but Fitzgerald Jr. didn’t appear to be affected. He had nine catches for 149 yards, which gave him 1,411 for the season. Fitzgerald joined Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison as the only receivers with four 1,400-yard seasons.
Fitzgerald didn’t mention anything about a lung injury after the game, but he did single out Skelton for praise and say that Skelton had fainted after getting fluid drained from his knee prior to the game.
“Pregame he scared us all. He fell out and he had a little fainting issue in the locker room,” Fitzgerald said. “We were all nervous about him being able to play today and he fought through that and was able to go out there and perform and get our team a win. That shows the kind of toughness he has.”
The Cardinals showed what kind of toughness they have with their fourth overtime win. After a terrible start to the season, Fitzgerald and Skelton deserve a lot of credit for rallying the Cardinals to finish 8-8.
