Jaguars ask for permission to interview Mularkey

Mike Mularkey AP

The Jaguars are starting to line up head coaching candidates.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the team asked permission to speak with Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.

The former Bills head coach has a game to prepare for this week, so he may not have a ton of extra time to interview. It’s also not guaranteed he’d be interested. Mularkey turned down an interview with the Broncos last year. Mularkey did interview for the Titans job that ultimately went to Mike Munchak.

Mularkey has ties to the Jaguars because his son works in the team’s scouting department. Mularkey is the first confirmed interview other than interim head coach Mel Tucker.

Peter King said Sunday night that Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis will be a candidate. Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and former Titans coach Jeff Fisher have been mentioned as possibilities.

This post is a bunch of malarkey.

    They should interview Tim Tebow.

There’s an exciting hire that’ll fill the seats in Jacksonville (sarcasm)

Mike Mularkey? Seriously? Does anybody remember his time as the “head coach” in Buffalo? Where he literally QUIT on his team?

Hire Jeff Fischer; make a reasonable trade for Tim Tebow (fan base, anyone?) and run the team the way Fischer did when Steve McNair QB’d the Titans, with the Eddie George role being played by MJD.

    Winner-winner, chicken dinner!

Never hire a guy named malarky and expect good things to happen for you

He deserves a coaching job. He did a good job in Buffalo during his first year, but was unfairly run out by Marv Levy.

Plus, when Atlanta’s offense has had shortcomings it’s more the players’ faults. One can only coach and perfect so much. They are a big key in developing reputable practices, but if their players make mistakes during crucial parts of the game it’s their faults!!!

He’s gotta be better than the Vikings “offensive coordinator” they got from Atlanta. That guy is a terrible play caller.

Whoever mentions Tebow or LA in comment section is either a moron a tool or a fool.

Back on subject I’d say no to Malarkey and say yes to either the Pats OC the Packers OC or Saints OC.

If you can’t tell i think they should hire an offensive minded coach.

    they can have him

Shaid Kahn was negotiating to buy an NFL franchise ever since losing out on the St Louis Rams, yet nobody heard of the transaction going down until 3 hours before the press conference. That’s how Kahn operates. When the Jaguars hire a new coach, it will be a surprise candidate to all but a select few – and certainly Jason LaCanfora will not be one of them…

Mike Brown isn’t going to let Gruden go after just one season and a Rookie QB needing to be groomed unless they want to trade for him.

As a Falcon fan, let me just say that I hope Mike Mularkey gets the job.

Good luck. Mularkey is a poor man’s Jack Del Rio. This could take the sails out of Atlanta’s wind.

I initially misread the first sentence as, “The Jaguars are starting to line up BAD coaching candidates.”

But, now that I think about it……

As a Jag fan whose uncle was born & raised in Buffalo, PLEASE DON’T BRING MULARKEY DOWN TO JACKSONVILLE. I can’t stand to watch another unproven HC stand on the sideline.

    Please Jags, hire him!

the guy is as bland and predictable as a Waffle House breakfast, I believe he holds the Falcons offense back.
