Munchak: “No question” Chris Johnson will be back

We’ve spent a lot of time discussing the particulars of Chris Johnson’s contract on this website.

With only 1,047 rushing yards this season and a monster option bonus due in 2012, it was fair to wonder if the Titans would cut ties with Johnson this offseason. Titans coach Mike Munchak says that’s not a consideration.

Munchak said there is “no question” about whether Johnson will be on the team next year, so the media doesn’t need to ask about it any longer.

While Munchak doesn’t have personnel control, we assume he’s saying this with his front office’s blessing and the Titans are fully committed to Johnson.

The Titans just need Johnson to be fully commited to them. He never was the CJ2K we’ve grown used to in 2011. As late as Week 16 and Week 17, he was struggling to make defenders miss in the open field. Even when Johnson broke a big play, he didn’t take it the distance like he used to.

It’s certainly possible Johnson will improve his play dramatically. If not, the Titans will be throwing good money after bad.
