Packers’ Brad Jones tackled fan who ran on field

Lions Packers Football AP

Packers linebacker Brad Jones got his first sack of the season on Sunday against the Lions, and taking down Detroit’s Matthew Stafford wasn’t even his best hit of the day.

Instead, Jones delivered his biggest hit to a fan who jumped out of the stands at Lambeau Field and ran onto the playing field.

Jones held onto the fan, who is reportedly 15 years old, until security arrived to escort him away.

Sunday’s game was also Jones’s first start of the season on defense, and he was the team’s special teams captain for the game.

Only tackle by either team yesterday

  2. rubbernilly says: Jan 2, 2012 7:33 AM

If that were soccer, he’d have been red-carded and ejected.

Atta way Packer fan! You own part of the team, anyway, so why not?

    No Mike Curtis reference?

    I thought that was obligatory.

Good for Jones…. The 15 year old is likely some spoiled brat who thinks the world revolves around him. Too bad the Lions D wasn’t on the field…then Suh could have stepped on him.

It looked like a lot of fun to me !

  10. bigdan7885 says: Jan 2, 2012 8:22 AM

That was really stupid. It’s not his job to stop fans from running on the field. That’s what we have security personnel for. Suppose this guy had a weapon?

  11. bostonhasrealhockey says: Jan 2, 2012 8:37 AM

He must own non stock stock

  12. snarkzilla says: Jan 2, 2012 8:42 AM

Believe it or not, the Packers screen fans for weapons when they enter Lambeau. That’s because Bears, Lions and Vikings fans could slip in and you know what they’re like.

  13. cardsfann1 says: Jan 2, 2012 8:44 AM

He should’ve turned him over his knee and spanked his behind in front of 50 thousand plus! Little punk would be embarrassed then!

Well of it is a kid, then I can see the goofball not thinking this through. Most idiots who run the field are drunk or crazy. This kid probably had it in his mind when the clock struck midnight.

    - love the joke about being the only tackle of the game!! Lol

  21. gmen1987 says: Jan 2, 2012 9:18 AM

Hope he drilled the kid into the turf. This kid’s parents probably should be arrested too. At least one of them was probably encouraging their kid to run on the field.

One highlight of the article that was left out is how the fan broke loose from the Packers player and made it back to his seat.

  25. jimnsota says: Jan 2, 2012 9:53 AM

Im surprised by this behavior. Most 15yr olds in Wisconsin have been drinking for many years and are seasoned vets.He should be able to handle his liquor. Child services may want to investigate.

  26. fittytuckin says: Jan 2, 2012 9:58 AM

You can’t do that to a “owner” and “non stock stock” holder.

  27. nycoccet says: Jan 2, 2012 10:04 AM

Unless the kid gets hit with some kind of huge fine or criminal charges, he is loving this and getting exactly what he wanted. His picture of him getting lit up is all over every NFL site nd on Profootballtalk.com top.stories. him and his buddies are loving it right now. He ll be the talk of his school. He’s 15 he does stuff that’s not thought out well. Puberty is a S.O.B. lol

  28. voiceofrealism says: Jan 2, 2012 10:12 AM

Sure, knock the fans that are willing to support their team by buying the stock. Not like other teams that need the government to force a tax to pay for stadium improvements. But then Packer fans are the best and most supportive fans in the league.

That kid has a huge nose

  32. anthonydilweg says: Jan 2, 2012 10:49 AM

Come on people. Don’t talk like this never happened anywhere before. Anytime a fan runs onto the field and disrupts the game, the players always tackle them. It happens all over the nfl, in every stadium. In every sport actually. They rarely show it, and the announcers rarely talk about it, so the person that did it doesn’t get any attention for it….oh wait…

  33. beedubyatoo says: Jan 2, 2012 10:52 AM

    No Mike Curtis reference?

    ————————

Do you mean Mike Ditka? Or did Curtis do it too? I remember Ditka clotheslining some dumbo who ran onto the field at Wrigley Field when the Bears played there. Probably 1963 or 1964.

  35. shlort says: Jan 2, 2012 11:06 AM

Jones should have used to old school “clothesline” tackle. I do like how some of the posters are complaining that the kid was handled by a player until security could escort the kid off the playing field. The kid had no business on that field, and the players have just as much right to protect themselves from someone who might be dangerous as you or I do. As far as season tickets go. it doesnt matter who gave the kid the ticket, or if they bought them off ticketmaster. The original owner is responsible for the seat and the behavior of whoever uses it.

  36. jjman24 says: Jan 2, 2012 11:15 AM

RE: voiceofrealism; The packers DID use the government to “force” a .5% sales tax to pay for the initial Lambeau renovation for a total of 300 million dollars. The stock is worthless; it is just a momento. I look at the awesome stadiums that Dallas, Colts, and Giants have and wish the Packers could have the same. They are about halfway to a billion dollar stadium with 300 mil and now 150 mil from stock sale. The 90,000 on the seat waiting list would appreciate some more seats.

  37. vikingdoode says: Jan 2, 2012 11:15 AM

If the packers get to the Super Bowl New England will embarrass them. GBP has no defense. Go Saints, 49ers, NY Giants, any team that plays the Packers….. It would be great Lions beat them….yeah blah blah blah

  38. poiuyt7 says: Jan 2, 2012 11:33 AM

I remember that Ditka hit too. He sent the fan flying about five yards through the air.

  39. sportsrube90 says: Jan 2, 2012 11:36 AM

The kid was probably saying ” no wait, I am the owner of the team you play for. why else would I waste $250 if I can’t enjoy my own team on the field?”

  40. 1historian says: Jan 2, 2012 12:09 PM

Mike Curtis did it I can’t remember when but he was playing for the BALTIMORE Colts. I remember it – he just creamed the guy. It was funny.

  41. jerrykill4pres says: Jan 2, 2012 12:36 PM

He was actually a lions fan. But was approached in the mens room by a packer fan. The packer fan wanted to show him what a real “packer” is. It scared this poor boy to death, and he ran as fast as he could to get away from this sick, and demented packer fan. Typical packer fans… Always fornicating with members of the same sex in the mens room!

The kid was more productive then Adrian Peterson though.
Congratulations to the Minnesota Vikings 3-13 outstanding season with NO NFC NORTH wins.
That is twice in your history with that record The Packers in that time were never that bad.
    More comparisons
    NFC Championship Games
    Vikings 4-5 Packers 7-2
    Super Bowls
    Vikings 0-4 Packers 4-1
Packer Fans might drink at a younger age but Viking fans have been drinking because of no Championships for 5o years Skol losers

  46. jjman24 says: Jan 2, 2012 5:52 PM

vikingdoode, maybe you haven’t noticed, but the Pack and Patriots are the 2 worst defenses in the NFL! So sure the Pats will score on our defense and the Pack offense will score just as much on them. Cheer all you want, but the Pack already beat the Saints, Giants, and Lions twice. Nice 3-13 season, have a fun off-season.

Some might say that $250. is wasted when you
buy stock but I disagree. I am proud to help out
the smallest NFL team with such a storied past
and no SMUG owner like Jerry “I’m better than
you” Jones taking all the glory and none of the
blame. I can look at Lambeau and be proud I
had a little part of the changes. We are the greatest

The kid (who I have photos of in cuffs from the 8th row) was released on bond for $850 and now has a LIFETIME ban from Lambeau Field… FYI Somebody is Pi$$ed because they officially lost their season ticket/On the other hand someone just gained a season ticket and everyone else just moved up a spot on the waiting list-THANKS KID
