Um….earned homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Beat Chicago twice. Went 15-1. Won a fourth super bowl last yr making it 13 NFL titles.

Who in gods name names their son Lovie?

In the Coryell system if there is a solid offensive line, the offense will be among the best (Gibbs & Redskins, Coryell & Chargers, Saunders & Chiefs, Martz & Rams). Martz will be in the NFL, not only is he one of best coordinators, but one of the best quarterback coaches.

The Bears situation is not the best in NFL, and they need to make some quality hiring to not only stabilize the offensive line, but the franchise itself.

As it seemed the brilliant Martz variation of the Coryell system will not be back, what will be put in? Cutler knows a variation of the Walsh offense from his time with Mike Shanahan. So which candidates are possibilities? At best I consider Jeremy Bates a candidate for QB position coach. Lovie Smith will want a low key style coach, not a Todd Haley-Bill O’Brien type screamer.

1. Tom Clements, Green Bay Packers Quarterbacks Coach & former Notre Dame QB

2. Joe Lombardi, Saints Quarterbacks Coach

3. Terry Malone, Saints Tights Ends Coach, & former Offensive Coordinator of Michigan Wolverines (he used to work with Bears TEs coach Mike DeBord)

4. Steve Mariucci, former 49ers & Lions HC

5. Mike Sherman, former HC of Green Bay Packers & Texas A & M

Then again, it could be anyone.

If the owner opens her purse for once any damn OC we want. These guys go where the money is plain and simple.

Right, because they never overpay for players like Peppers, Taylor and Manumaleuna. Or offer $4 million to player who wound up being out of football by the end of this season.

There is a difference between being cheap and being dumb. As to which one is actually better, that is up for debate.

As for the “philosophical differences,” remember that when Martz was in Detroit, defensive “genius” Rod Marinelli blamed everything on Martz – Marinelli firing Martz resulted in the Lions going 0-16.

Marinelli probably gets along better with Tice because they’re both military philosophy knuckleheads.

My guess is that the Bears will look at Tice as their offensive coordinator, who will plan a ground and pound offense. But, the front office won’t re-sign Forte, because that would make too much sense.

Martz took a Piggly-Wiggly bag boy and made him a super bowl champion and the receivers will probably be in the HOF.

Being an offensive genius has its drawbacks. If a GM would work with Martz drafting players to fit that complicated and intricate scheme, things would be different. But HCs always get snippy when the OC outshines them.

Again I ask: how does Lovie survive them all? And by the way, why don’t HCs survive after ridding the sideline of Martz?

Have you watched a Bears game? Did you see the Giants game last year (I think)? Martz kept calling 5 & 7 step drops with a horrible o-line. Over and over and over again. There are times where he would have empty sets and Cutler would be under center. Who DOES THAT?! Lovie should have talked some sense into him a long time ago but he doesn’t listen. He still thinks he’s the head coach even though he’s an offensive coordinator. He keeps trying to tailor players to his offense but doesn’t want (or takes forever) to tailor the offense to the players when it doesn’t work.

- Angelo failed to get him help.
- Martz routinely called 7 step drops behind a poor o-line and empty sets. It takes him half a season to make adjustments.

Now lets bring in people who actually know what a franchise QB is..

Yes, this should work out very well.

First off: Martz. Knucklehead – tried to be smarter than everybody else. His system almost got Cutler killed …yet prior to Cutler getting hurt, it was the 7th highest scoring offense in the NFL.

Bears: Which Offensive Coordinator is gonna come into a situation when the entire defense is on the wrong side of 30, and the D-minded head coach is on a VERY short leash?

It’s very likely Mike Tice gets a promotion – but has he ever called plays? I don’t think he did in Minny – pretty sure it was Scott Linehan.

It is going to get worse in Chicago next year. I guarantee it.
