With running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) on the shelf for the rest of the season, the Steelers had only three running backs on the active roster.

They now have four, due to the elevation of Chad Spann from the practice squad.

The Steelers created the roster spot by placing rookie linebacker Chris Carter on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. The move likely confirms that the Steelers won’t be signing a veteran running back for Sunday’s game against the Broncos.

Tiki Barber remains flabbergasted.
