As I read everyone's comments, I detect that we are getting sidetracked. Everyone thinks that there is a silver bullet that can make us a Super Bowl winner. Sorry! We have to beat New England just to win the conference! Ask yourself, "Right now, can we beat New England?" Okay, let's get focused.

A great coach, like Shula and his staff, could win with theirs and then take yours and beat theirs! Outside of New England and New Orleans - show me the next Don Shula! Remember, Shula was a successful head coach when the Dolphins acquired his services with a big salary and a piece of the team! Is Mr. Ross going to make that deal in 2012?

Second, Matt Moore wasn't the problem this year! In the games Moore played in, we lost because the defense couldn't stop good teams from outscoring us! We need three CB! We need to shift Sean Smith to Safety! We either need to use the 4-3 more or get a left OLB.

We need another good QB just for depth purposes, if nothing else. If we draft a rookie - he will have to develop and adapt to some degree! Even Dan Marino had a few games to watch and learn, plus he had Don Strock to help him slow the game down a little! We don't have that depth!

Look at Denver! They are using a QB, that really can't pass very well but can run, to compliment a good running game and a good defense. They have a brilliant leader in the front office (Elway) and a very good coach who understands how to asses player's strengths and build a team that enhances their strong suits. It is not rocket science and Coach Fox isn't a Don Shula! Do you get my point?

The trouble starts with Mr. Ross and then permeates down and out through the organization. When Mr. Ross gets his head on right and pays attention to his large investment, he will get things on track. It starts by finding someone that can run the business like John Elway - not a great coach like Don Shula.

The Dolphins are a team suffering from poor organization and a disorganized chain-of-command. When you look at the description of their organization on their web sight, you see that there are three separate leaders who can work without consulting with anyone other than Mr. Ross. Add Carl Peterson to this mix and you have the mess we are in.

Jeff Fisher will eventually become aware of this circumstance because it will impact his potential for success. It means that Jeff Ireland and he will have a relationship where their differences are settled by an absentee owner. (Ross loves the bright lights) That is how Sporano got into trouble. The GM has to work with the head coach rather than work around him.

Mr. Ross needs to impose on someone he trusts, like Mr. Peterson, to be "The Man" and run the team the way Joe Thomas did in the Dolphin glory days. Fisher will use the Dolphins deep pockets as leverage in St. Louis because he knows they are tight with a buck.

My prediction is Marty Schottenheimer's son does us a "Favor," leaves the Jets and is the new head coach! Yes, Marty & Company worked 1o years for Carl Peterson.

Prediction #2: Luck to Colts & P. Manning to the Redskins (if healthy) for 2 #1 picks. Snyder wants to win now & loves to overpay too!

Prediction #3: We overpay Matt Flynn and then fail to acquire the players he needs to win here!

Prediction #4: We trade down in the draft and end up with a Right Tackle in the first round.

Just A thought!

Also this team is above and beyond what St. Louis is. Really Sam Bradford is your “franchise” quarterback? Matt Moore (who is still young) was in the top 10 over the last 8 games of the season.
------------
I'm sorry...wha??

I'm not a Rams fan but are you really comparing Bradford to Moore? Bradford did have a regression year but not one talent evaluator in NFL would take Moore over Bradford.
I don't see any new coach/GM coming in that will get rid of Bradford. I can see the new Dolphins regime making Moore a backup.

Rams also have the most cap room among all teams. They have a cornerstone on defense in Chris Long.

This is not a slight of Moore or the Dolphins. Both were badly managed but the Rams job is more attractive as far as I can tell.

@hmpennypacker
The jury is still out on Moore. He did look very good subbing for Delhomme a couple years ago and then looked like garbage along with Clausen last year. At a minimum he is a good back-up or maybe a competent starter. I don't think he will be a Brady/Manning/Brees/Rodgers talent but he is good enough to win although not carry a poor team.

As for Henne, it's a shame. He was having a decent year. He looked more confident, threw for over 400 in the 1st game. (not saying much considering the stats put up this year). I think Henne could have blossomed into a very good QB. The problem is when it comes to QBs, some need time to sit and learn (like Rodgers did) and some are OK with getting thrown in the deep end of the pool at first. Henne is in the first category. He wasn't ready but he did OK. When he regressed, he wasn't able to handle the scrutiny and his confidence was further damaged by a coaching staff that routinely undermined his progress. (Constant talk of replacement, not allowing him to audible out of plays he knows are doomed when he got to the line, etc.) Many fans gave up on Henne and he is as good as gone. It's a shame since he was showing signs of improvement and real leadership.

The teams reported to have the most interest in Fisher have just come off unsuccessful stints with first-time head coaches, so they most likely WANT a "re-tread" with some kind of track record as HC. Like the Broncos hiring John Fox last year this time after the McDaniels debacle.

When you bash Fisher's "non-winning seasons" stat, remember that he took over an awful team in the middle of a nasty divorce with Houston, and had to keep the team together through some morale-shredding years early on in his HC career when they didn't even have facilities fit for a good college team. So not all 8-8 or 7-9 seasons he delivered were an underachievement.

He's made the playoffs with three different starting QBs over the last 8 years, with all kinds of other roster turnover along the way. And one of the more "colorful" bosses/owners to deal with to boot.

Plus, he's good at engaging fans -- lessons learned early in his career when he didn't inherit built-in fan support.

He's seen it all, and despite his "good not great" resume, he's exactly the kind of guy a team the Dolphins or Rams would want right now. It's not a mystery what they see in him.

The teams reported to have the most interest in Fisher have just come off unsuccessful stints with first-time head coaches, so they most likely WANT a “re-tread” with some kind of track record as HC. Like the Broncos hiring John Fox last year this time after the McDaniels debacle.

First off Ross isn't an idiot. He does need to learn to be a little quieter as an owner when it comes to money. But on the same token this guy is willing to do whatever it takes to bring the pride back to the phins so as a fan of them I can appreciate that.

Fisher is a good coach, if he is a great one that remains to be seen but I would be comfortable with him on this team, I don't he will (St.Louis) but we will see.

Also this team is above and beyond what St. Louis is. Really Sam Bradford is your "franchise" quarterback? Matt Moore (who is still young) was in the top 10 over the last 8 games of the season. And this whole get rid of Jeff Ireland thing needs to stop. This guy crushed the draft this year (Pouncey going to the probowl, Danial Thomas as a complement to Bush, Clay, Wilson, Gates all played significant time and roles this year). Brought in Reggie and Keith Burnett and got rid of Crowder. Those are some ballsy but great roster moves. Oh yeah did I mention Matt Moore? He brought him in too.

This team is close, real close.

I agree with docboss & dctitanfan.

Fisher spent all those 17 years going up against two of the toughest teams in the NFL and a team who had/has a cyborg at quarterback. And the titans were still pretty competitive as I remember.

Having played Peyton twice a year for the last near decade I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to face Brady twice a year now!

The Rams do make the most sense for the reasons previously stated. I know Bradford didn't have a great year this year but the guy had no one to throw to! Give him a break!

I'm not a huge Fisher fan, but you do have to look behind the numbers.

In his first season, he inherited a joke of a team mid-season.

In his second season, the team was respectable.

And in 3 seasons thereafter - transitioning from HOU to TEN - his 8-8 records were miracles, considering his teams practiced at sub-par facilities (waiting for Nashville) and played with absolutely no fan support (in lame ducks Houston and Memphis).

After many successful years thereafter, including the SB, he suffered a dip because of salary cap releases/issues, but then picked it up again for several years before VY happened. (I can't defend his handling of VY - he should have done better there, no matter what you think of VY.)

Fisher gets most of his respect from being on the competition committee during some of his tenure with TN. That afforded him the opportunity to meet and know most of the owners and top executives on a personal level.

Fisher had 5 losing seasons too in 17 years

So Fisher had 11 seasons of .500 or worse in 17 years. No one fears Jeff Fisher.

Fisher had 12 seasons of .500 or better in the same division as the Steelers and Ravens until 2002 and the Colts since 2002

.500 record against the Steelers and Ravens at that time as well

Many teams would kill to be that good during that time

Talking about records and how tricky they can be, let's look at a few.

Fisher's record is 142-120, that's 8.8 wins/season in a 16 game season.

The combination of Shula/Marino had 9.4 wins /season (corrected for a 16 game season)

The combination of Wanstat/Fiedler and other QBs had 9 wins/season

So is Fisher only .6 games/season less talented than the Shula/Marino combination?

Is Wanstat only .4 games/season less talented than Shula/Marino?

Don't be tricked by numbers, look a little deeper at the man, he stayed 16 years with one team. That must be worth something.

I formerly thought that it was not all about the money, but STL has heard that before (see King Albert Pujols). But, if Fisher wants the "best job", he should look for the combination (in no particular order): money, control, stability, "win-ability", and a quarterback. STL has the money, will give him control to pick the GM, a hands-off owner, the NFC West and Bradford. Miami has money, Carl Peterson and Jeff Ireland, a knuckhead owner who can't keep his mouth shut and changes his mind daily, two games with Bill B. every year (losses both) and Matt Moore.
Regarding his record...if there were no Peyton Manning it would have looked a lot better (5-13)
