Chuck Bresnahan is indeed on the way out

Rod Woodson, Stanford Routt

File - In this July 29, 2011, file photo, Oakland Raiders cornerback Stanford Routt, right, listens to assistant defensive backs coach Rod Woodson, left, during their NFL football training camp in Napa, Calif. Woodson’s main task is to help develop four young cornerbacks the Raiders have drafted the past two seasons into reliable NFL players as Oakland tries to replace Nnamdi Asomugha. We passed along some typical Raiders weirdness the other night, noting that the team denied a radio report from 95.7’s Chris Townsend that defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and three other Raiders assistants including Rod Woodson had been fired.

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that Bresnahan and the three others are indeed on the way out.

So why did the Raiders deny the report? Semantics.

Oakland informed the four coaches they would not be brought back next season, but they are requiring them to work the remaining two weeks of their contract. Silver calls team spokesman John Herrera a “lying liar” and a “tool.”

(We expect an epic Herrera response.)

“This is why a lot of established coaches don’t want to work for Raiders. They play games, instead of just manning up and firing people,” Silver writes. “They say, ‘Oh, you have a year on your contract? You’ve been reassigned to scouting.’ Daring them to leave or void contract.”

Al Davis is surely looking on from above with a toothy grin.
