It's hair pulling madness that people are judging Stephen Ross, he's a behind the scenes owner who doesn't meddle in player personnel, but he shell out cash for top notch players. He's been the majority owner for 2 years, and his big crime is trying to hire Jim Harbaugh last offseason. Maybe the problem is people BELIEVE everything they read example above 'Peterson is or is not coming to the dolphins, either way he's being paid.' Guess what "Brooklyn Bridge Buyers" the writer has no idea if Ross is paying anything, the WRITER IS GUESSING. We have no idea of the inner machinations of any pro football organization. What we do know is that MIAMI writers are often wrong, misinformed, quoting unnamed sources, probably the ticket guys. And national writers (see: the writers of this blog) take their cues from the Miami media because they have weekly 20 minute segments on Miami writer's radio shows. I wish Miami sports writers would all move to St. Louis and cover the Rams. Hey Dolphins fans Miami fans news flash this teams problems did not start with Ross/Ireland. How about Jimmy drafting John Avery instead of Randy Moss, Dave Wannestead drafting Jamar Fletcher instead of Drew Brees, Saban drafting Jason Allen, Huizenga hiring Cam Cameron. Fun fact for fins fans there are only 24 players from the Cam Cameron team that are still active in NFL. Now before you bash the team, the owner and the gm sign up for your local community college critical thinking course or root for the jets, pats, or bills!

stevemo -

We can talk for hours about the misses in free agency and in the draft and the horrible contracts Ireland has whiffed on. He had his head ten miles up Parcells ass before he got knee pads for Ross, so he gets some of that stink if he's going to get any of the praise (not sure what he's done to earn any of the latter). He was Parcells #1 talent evaluator so his hands are dirty.

Just the names you mention there: Moore was an accident. They signed him and never let him compete with Henne. Henne got hurt and Moore happened to play well. Don't make it sound like that was the plan. If they thought/knew Moore was any good, he would have been the starter, right? And they certainly wouldn't have spent so much time trying to get Orton before the season started if they knew Moore was the second coming of Guy Benjamin! How many years has Ireland been around in some capacity and Miami still has no long-term answer at quarterback. Not making that priority #1 is reason enough to fire him.

Bush was also a fluke. Giving up a 6th to get him was fine, but if Ireland thought Bush was an every down back, then he wouldn't have traded up to get that stiff Thomas IN THE SECOND ROUND. Bush emerged because Thomas was always hurt......and sucks.

Clay had virtually zero impact on the team and couldn't stay healthy long enough to beat out that stiff Fasano.............. Shouldn't Pouncey be pretty good since he was the 15th overall pick in the draft......and was Burnett as good as Columbo was bad?

As of this moment, the offensive line is an absolute joke, Henne got killed and it was only a matter of time for Moore...........another season and no threat at tight end, incredibly mediocre receivers, another pass rusher is desperately needed and the Dolphins played the season with one safety and Bell ain't what he used to be. They're best player is their punter. How insane is that?

This team is awful and any one in charge of player procurement who is too much of a coward to ever address the media is simply not someone I want working for me. If that's the guy you have have confidence in leading your football operations, you're nuts. Ross obviously doesn't even think he's ready if Peterson is this involved........and he doesn't even work there! But what do I know.....go ask Tony Sparano what he thinks of his good friend Jeff Ireland. That gutless weasel has zero loyalty and no character and I can't wait for the day when that scumbag gets thrown in the dumpster where he belongs with the rest of the garbage. The only bigger creep is the guy who employs him.

The guys who flew the banner over the stadium were right on the money.

Ross obviously doesn’t even think he’s ready if Peterson is this involved……..and he doesn’t even work there! But what do I know…..go ask Tony Sparano what he thinks of his good friend Jeff Ireland. That gutless weasel has zero loyalty and no character and I can’t wait for the day when that scumbag gets thrown in the dumpster where he belongs with the rest of the garbage. The only bigger creep is the guy who employs him.

The guys who flew the banner over the stadium were right on the money.

Stephen Ross is quickly becoming the worst owner in the NFL. He has no plan at all. He flirted behind Sparano's back with Harbaugh and thought he would get away with it. Then he brings on a bunch of celebrities to try and boost the team's P.R. image. Now he won't even commit to King Carl being on board.

Whatever this guy is smoking, I want some.

And you wonder how the Patriots win their division every year. Their AFC East competition :

Jets – led by Santonio “oh captain, my captain ” Holmes

Buffalo – a team that only drafts players shorter than 5’10″.

Miami – has a practice squad of coaches, GM’s and random executives.

Good stuff, especially the Buffalo thing, very true. All the little Pats fans get so upset every time someone says something remotely bad about their precious little team on here. I can just picture them in their pink Brady jerseys hitting the thumbs down button until their finger is numb haha.

So basically.. Peterson is going to be standing outside the fence whispering in Ross' ear, and undermining everything Jeff Ireland does. What a joke.

Agree with this stevemo fella - I've never heard a sound argument for Ireland's firing.

You won't find many teams who had 4 better 1st round picks than Long, Vontae, Odrick, and Pouncey.

And his 5 veterans acquisitions over the last 2 years? Brandon Marshall is a Pro Bowler, Dansby and Reggie Bush aren't far behind, Matt Moore was one of the biggest surprises of the year, and Burnett was fantastic after the first few games What's there to hate on here?

And to correct any misconceptions.. Jeff Ireland has NEVER passed on a QB in the 1st round - anyone available to him at his spot would've been a giant reach, and any other option would've included blockbuster trade up for Sanchez, Flacco, Freeman (no thanks).

Sparano was an awful coach, and Ross neutered him, making him a worse coach.

I’m glad for dolphin fans that Peterson is not going to be with the dolphins, when he was in K.C. he was noted for not making trades he would back down at the last moment, but smart move by owner of dolphins, do you hear that Jerry Jones, Dean Spano’s and a few others get somebody that knows what the hell they are doing about football, Spano’s basically spite in the face of the San Diego fans when he kept Norv Turner and AJ Smith and Jerry Jones keeps putting these yes sir guys in as head coach, the two best teams that Jerry Jones owned was with Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells, not Dave Campo and the rest of the yes sir boys in the band.
Like I said the other day it never seizes to amaze me how dump these so-called executives, Jerry hire a real G.M. and sit back and count your money and get a great head coach like Jeff Fisher, Bill Cowher, and Dennis Green etc.

@6ball

Its funny you mention the lack of competition for the pats

Miami was saying that exact same thing in the 70s&80s
The Bills were saying that in the late 80s and early 90s
and the jets were saying it the last three years as they won the superbowl or almost won- something like that.

And eventually history repeats.

Peterson already gets paid, surprised this is an issue at all he works for fan vision (under ross) and to play around with interviews would be like a vacation away from sales.

So instead of crunching numbers he is giving advice- the money is all the same

Carl Peterson is cancer for a team's front office. Dolphins fans, hope he never gets on board for real. Take it from this Chiefs fan.

Dude gave Larry Johnson a long-term contract instead of Jared Allen. Let's not forget, his "five-year plan" to win the Super Bowl lasted three times as long, and poor old Derrick Thomas, Will Shields, and Tony Gonzalez never won a Super Bowl because of it.

xpensivewinos says: Jan 5, 2012 10:20 PM

Why Jeff Ireland is still employed is a much more significant story line than whatever role Carl Peterson is or is not fulfilling.

Ross must be doing some freaky stuff in those photos that Jeff Ireland has safely tucked away.
There’s no other explanation as to why that tool still has a job.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins don’t have a face to their organization, but Ross & Irleand sure combine to be the ass of it.

---------

I have yet to read any reasonable explanation from anyone as to why Ireland should be fired.

This was his first year calling all the shots. 6-10 leaves much to be desired, but in just the one off season he brought in a lot of solid contributors.

Matt Moore, Reggie Bush, Kevin Burnett, Mike Pouncey, and Charles Clay come to mind.

I think that it's clear that this team is UNDERPERFORMING due to coaching and/or gameplanning, not for lack of talent.
