Steelers concerned about Pouncey, Roethlisberger practices fully

Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger hugs Maurkice Pouncey during warm-ups before an NFL football game in Indianapolis Reuters

Despite the disputed setback to Ben Roethlisberger’s ankle, there’s no doubt who will start at quarterback for the Steelers this Sunday.

There is some doubt about who will start at center.

Maurkice Pouncey sat out practice Thursday after coming out of Wednesday’s practice very sore. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said he’s worried about Pouncey’s availability to face the Broncos, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pouncey’s status could be key because he is likely to be faced up against underrated Broncos defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley. And the Steelers need all the help they can get protecting Roethlisberger.

Meanwhile, Roethlisberger returned for a full practice on Thursday.

Three other Steelers missed practiced entirely, but they are expected to play Sunday: James Harrison (toe), Brett Keisel (groin) and Troy Polamalu (calf).

  6. steelersownyou says: Jan 5, 2012 4:32 PM

If pouncey can’t go don’t you worry doug legurskey is healthy now and is more than capable of handling any of broncos d-line!

    Eastsideballa,

Because the 1st lady was cookoo for cocoa puffs and their was 0 evidence the 2nd chick had sex that night…

Hard to be in jail without being cuffed and charged with a crime…which he never was…

  8. ottograham says: Jan 5, 2012 4:37 PM

    @eastsideballa

because he was never charged with anything…

so why do you continue to ask questions you already know the answer to?

It’s definitely been a tough year for Maurkice. He has battled injury and an illness that knocked him under 280lbs. He’ll rebound next year!

Yawn. Precisely because no charges were brought against him. Watch the news much?

Yawn. You are witless and tiresome, but, hey, at least you a “balla”.

What a shock. Bathroom Ben suddenly is fine? Guess it’s because there aren’t any cameras or microphones around him. 75% of the players in the league are banged up big time. Bathroom Ben is the only one feels the need to talk about and embellish his “injuries”. GRADE ONE ankle sprain – Boo hoo. Sorry, truth hurts.

eastsideballa- he’s not in jail because according to a district attorney, he never committed a crime. the fact that you get your rocks off by making dumbass comments about Ben is a shame. You just prove that you have the maturity of a 12 year old. BTW, does the gas station know that you read PFT on your phone while you are supposed to be working?
There are only a handful of teams that wouldn’t take him as their quarterback and I’m betting that you would take him in a heartbeat to win your lousy team 2 Super Bowls.

Looks as if the Steelers have a lot to be concerned with during playoffs. To many key players hurt or can’t play. I guess fans of other teams will be happy about that.

  16. steelerfanjo says: Jan 5, 2012 5:08 PM

He has never been in prison. He doesn’t have a record. Learn the facts. Ray Lewis plead down which means he has a record. Charges were dropped against Ben due to the facts of the case. Eastsideball – u an idiot.

    Heard an interesting stat today.

The last five non-winning teams to make the playoffs went 5-0 against the spread and 4-1 straight up on wild card weekend.

Just a little something to think about….

If the Steelers lose, don’t forget that you made this statement and hide behind some sort of injury excuse. I’ve seen this sort of attitude from a lot of Steelers fans, and it’s making it easier to put my hatred for the Broncos aside, and pull for them, which is very rare for me. This can be a trap game, so don’t be too surprised if your Steelers lose, and if they do, your statement gives you no excuses.

Little Casey, do you ever post anything other the same OLD juvenile comments about Big Ben? Another thread, the same old comments.

Please, please grow up and talk about constructive football related things. Big Ben is a darn beast of a player and if anyone else says other wise, then your a fool! You got to respect the guy for the way he plays on the field. I would give up Flacco for Big Ben anyday!

As a Ravens fan you have to repect him, even through the hate.

Hopefully we will see them soon enough. Because win or lose you know it will be a war!

    Go Ravens!

  32. raqaiw says: Jan 5, 2012 6:00 PM

I think it’s hilarious to see folks complain about Ben’s allegations being brought up repeatedly when the first 20 comments on any Ray Lewis story are from Steelers fans(usually including “steelersownyou” aka Hines Ward) talking about something that happened 12 years ago.
Also,if Pouncey doesn’t play the Steelers lose. Ben can’t move around, and their best lineman being out is a recipe for disaster.

  33. mistersmith22 says: Jan 5, 2012 6:03 PM

    baltimorebob:

7 turnovers week one, a professional history of faking/overstating injuries, a personal history of sex abuse (I know, “no charges” thanks to settlements and friendly cops, but this stuff doesn’t accidentally happen to innocent people this many times)…plus he’s lucky to be alive after his moronic, helmetless motorcycle accident.

So know, we do not have to respect him.

  46. darthvoter says: Jan 5, 2012 9:37 PM

Steeler fan here – This is the NFL, which means ANY team, can beat any other team on any given Sunday. Didn’t think the Chiefs could beat the Packers, but they did. Any self-respecting Steeler fan knows they should NOT take this Denver team lightly. They have a staunch defense, and the last time the Steelers went up against a tough defense, they lost at San Fran. Sure, Tebow is struggling right now. But the Steelers are seriously dinged up, and they don’t have Ryan Clark, who has had a very good year. The steelers came very close to losing to Cleveland last week, and if Redman fumbles or the Steelers lose the turnover game, it could easily go Denver’s way. I’ll be very happy to see us get out of Denver alive personally.

    Go Steelers!!!

    That’s a HIGH ankle sprain.

Do 4 seconds of research before posting.

I’ve had a grade 1 high ankle before. My ankle swelled for 5 months.

Even when it’s healed, it still causes discomfort for months.

They are the most nagging of all injuries. But why would you know that? You clearly know nothing about injuries.

Hey, I know where my team is, and am in no way happy about it. I was just pointing out a little truth, and meant no offense by it, so don’t get your panties in such a wad. I don’t play for the Raiders and I have a right to my opinion as a fan of the game. I hate the Broncos, and was going to pull for the Steelers, but fans like you make it impossible.

Like I said, this is a trap game for the Steelers. Playing a team on a three game losing streak, in there house, is never a good thing and should be approached with caution.

Many of you are looking past it, claiming confidently that the Steelers could win the game with their second string. Being a fan of the game, this attitude leads me to point out, that if your team just happens to lose, you can’t fall back on any excuses.

Call me all the names you want, but it’s the truth. Don’t be surprised if Denver wins, and if they do, the fallout is going to be epic.

  49. johntonioholmes says: Jan 5, 2012 9:52 PM

Could you be anymore clueless? I think not. A high ankle sprain is significantly different than a regular ankle sprain.

A grade 1 takes about 6 weeks before one can resume activity.

Ben played 11 days after it occurred, which (if you know anything about injuries, and YOU clearly don’t) undoubtedly setbacks healing process.

Not only that, but the “mildest form” of the high ankle sprain can cause swelling in the ankle for up to 6 months.

    For Tebow’s sake, educate yourself!

  50. johntonioholmes says: Jan 5, 2012 9:55 PM

So pretty much all of Pitt’s best players are injured.

As a Steelers fan, this worries me because an upset wouldn’t be shocking.

No one would remember that Pitt played with major injuries to key players; all they would remember is that Tebow got a playoff win.

    That’s a nightmare.

  51. pravin68 says: Jan 5, 2012 10:19 PM

Why aren’t more media members questioning TOm;lin for being so stupid to bring back Pouncey in a game that they could have won with Legursky or Essex at center. THey should have had Pouncey as an emergency backup for hte game. His ankle would be in better shape . Hell, I would have preplanned to rest him even for the Denver game. The 4 weeks off would have made a much bigger difference. Steelers need Pouncey if they advance further

With that being said I leave you with this lil nugget….”we’re just trying not to get tebowed” famous quote of james harrison this week.

  55. denverdude7 says: Jan 6, 2012 5:20 AM

Somewhat lost in all this Tebowmania is the fact that it is Denver’s defense that has been responsible for their turnaround.

With the game being played in Denver’s high altitude and the many injuries the Steelers are facing, the Broncos do have a chance.

Either way this game will be ugly.

    Denver 12
    Pittsburgh 10

  56. altoonisgod says: Jan 6, 2012 6:08 AM

I cant stand the Steelers and their arrogant fans. Although I cant stand Tebow and the people that tell me he is a winner with a 40% completion percentage.. Who exactly to root for?

  57. sudz28 says: Jan 6, 2012 6:52 AM

Too bad about Pouncey, he’s been fighting injuries non-stop it seems since late last season. I don’t get why everyone is just assuming the Steelers are going to breeze past the Broncs – they’re in the playoffs for a reason, they have a good team. The offense is suspect, but their D is pretty damn good. I do think the Steelers will win it, but I certainly don’t think it’ll be a blowout and I won’t be surprised if they lose. I’d have MUCH more confidence if we were as healthy as 90% of the teams in the league, but with all the injuries we’re dealing with it’s going to be dicey.

  58. caseynthonymunoz says: Jan 6, 2012 7:59 AM

Hopefully Pouncey will be able to go he is an outstanding center for only his second year in the leauge. Ben will continue to fight off his injuries and come out and play well, he is a warrior. I think we will see alot of Heath Miller this week for some reason. The Steelers should sqeek by this game with a win and face the Texans in the AFC Championship.

  59. steelernation1 says: Jan 6, 2012 8:17 AM

as i ignore the childish posts.

this will be an interesting game to watch.for one Tebow is not much of a passer.going against the number one D in the NFL.if he cant pass the ball more than he throws it they cant win this game.for the Steelers if they cant get there running game going they will struggle and make it interesting.

I am sorry all you Bronco fans.they played well enough to win this year but,Tebow is not the answer at QB..he is not a true QB to begin with.there D kept them in most of there wins this year.they barely got in the playoffs.i believe if they had a true QB they would be a much better team than they are now.get a real QB switch Tebow to tightend and move on.he should never been drafted as a QB.a running QB has failed for years.

do not get me wrong he is an exceptional athlete i cant take that away from him at all..but the Steelers D will be too much for him.and to all the Raven fans.keep spouting off how you all beat the Steelers 2 times already this year.if the Steelers play the Ravens it wonbt be as easy as before.why?the D is healthy this time.and the O-line is playing much better than the 1st 2 times around

    just sayin ;)

  60. karla36 says: Jan 6, 2012 8:59 AM

@altoonisgod: LOL–I’ve had the same dilemma for the past week. For 34 years, I have rooted for any team that plays the Steelers. I can ‘t stand Tebow and am in a quandry as to who I want to win. As game day nears, though, I think I want Tebow to have a real bad day, Pig Ben to have an even worse one and the Broncos to win!!

  61. ravenut06 says: Jan 6, 2012 9:46 AM

    ***************************************
Thats great that your D will be healthy this time, but you cant win if you do not put up the points, and i do not think you D will put up 20+ pts to win. The Steeler O is still banged up and always has injuries after playing the Ravens. (as does the Ravens after playing the Steelers.) If Ben can not move your O is very limited and with Mend. out for the playoffs that is only going to hurt you more. So again thats great to hear your D is healthy, but take a look at the O.

  62. steelernation1 says: Jan 6, 2012 10:26 AM

  64. ravenut06 says: Jan 6, 2012 11:33 AM

    steelernation1

What makes me think that is….week 1- 35pts week 9- 23pts. If you want to look at a more recent game after your bye week take week15 against SF they put up 20pts. your last six games you played 2 playoff teams and went 1-1. for the year you went3-4 against playoffteams. the ravens went 6-0. you gave up field goals against cleveland twice and nothing against st. louis. not much of a game there are they.

and i never said you said they would win i just simply pointed out the fact that yeah your d is healthy but no you have to look at the o.

so yes i think the ravens chances are even better then the first two games.

I’m a Steelers fan also and not quite sure what the reason to attack you for your post, bro. I’ve got my concerns about this game also. Pittsburgh is limping into Denver and anything can happen like you said this is pro ball and if big Mo gets on Denvers side look out.
To all you children out there making your remarks about Ben or Ray Lewis being in prison. I hear the recess bell ringing, so get to class and back to reading See Spot Run.
