Bad officiating? Maybe the early whistle on the fumble recovery, but the Lions abysmal tackling and missed picks had WAY more effect on the final score.

That, and the fact that NO’s offense is hitting on all cylinders – they really looked good.

The Motor City Kitties (see? I like it) definitely need to add to the secondary as job #1, then get some depth at the running game. We will be back next season. And for all the Stafford haters who claim that the only reason he looks good is because of Calvin? You need to watch him more. He is the real deal.

On the TV coverage, NBC stated the Lions have not won a playoff game since 1957 or something like that. This is false. They crushed the Cowboys in 1991, 38-6.

How bad would you laugh at a Packers fan bragging about the Ice Bowl? About a Bears fan gloating about 73-0? Multiply that by 10, and that’s how silly your “crushing” recollection is.

And FWIW, NBC’s premade animation that went decade-by-decade did in fact credit that “crushing” victory.

600 plus yards 2 games in a row. Saints are unstoppable. For all naysayers, 18-6 on the road in the last 3 years=best in NFL. Saints will destroy SF, and ATL will upset the Pack, so back to our dome for the NFC Title. Lambeau won’t be an issue.

Maybe you ought to wait till the other games are final before you run your ratchet. Only thing that the Falcons have over the Saints is that they have one more week of offseason to enjoy.

Everyone is entitled to a bad game (which is what Saints had) but they lost to the rams….the RAMS with a 2 win season. With a backup QB no less.

I just learned Brees played in a spread offense in college. Currently playing it now. Is he good, yes. Is he great no. Brees and Strafford has had over 5000 yards this season. Does that mean anything? As a friend of mine reminded me, Dante Culpepper had 0ver 5000 yards at a time where the NFL wasn’t a passing game, you know the type of NFL where YOU COULD play tight defense or crush a QB, or offensive holding calls WOULD be called… Those are facts.

Not a saints hater, but a saints fans hater.

The Lions have a lot of talent but they had their “welcome to the NFL playoffs” moment last night and how they react next season to the butt-kickin’ they got last night will determine how much character they have.

That said, the officiating once again was sufficiently bad as to impact the game. Non calls, bad calls, questionable spots, an early whistle and some clock shenanigans give lions fans a valid reason to complain. The NFL should be embarrassed by what the officiating has become the last few years. It is utterly ridiculous. I still think that the saints would have won, but to say that the refs didn’t effect the game (in favor of the saints) is not being honest/objective.

For the cry-babies accusing the ref’s of fixing the game: GET OVER IT! Ref’s are not perfect and it’s just a fact of the game that they aren’t going to get 100% of the calls correct. Great teams are able to overcome bad calls. Was it the ref’s fault that the Lions were unable to make any tackles? (It looked like they were trying to play flag football). Was it the ref’s fault that the Lions secondary had multiple blown coverages???? Was it the ref’s fault that Detroit had no running game to keep the Saints offense off the field???
The better team won last night…Period.

Eric Wright’s 2 dropped ints and the inadvertent whistle after the Brees fumble would have changed the game but probably not the outcome.

Bottom line you cant be taken seriously giving up over 1000 yards in back to back weeks against the class of the NFC.

I miss the NFL of five years ago.

If everyone played as hard as Pierre Thomas, what a game it would be, love that guy.

The Lions were up 14-7 for some time in the game and I remember thinking that if they could score another TD and go up by 2 TD’s, that the Lions would have a real good shot at winning.

The Saints defense wouldn’t let them in the end zone though, that was huge.

Also, why didn’t Swartz challenge that first down in Saints territory where the WR was clearly short of the marker?

That was a colossal mistake.

Stafford is awesome. He throws bullets side-arm and hits receivers in traffic. We’ve got a great corps of receivers including our TEs. Obviously Megatron is a beast, but Stafford should also have been picked for the Pro Bowl.

No running game this year, but Michael LeShore was out for the season, and Javid Best’s career is probably over. If LeShore plays like the star he supposedly is, our offense will rip up the NFL next year.

We still need help in the secondary.

Given that the haters all said we wouldn’t even play .500, and would finish last in the NFC North, you’d think those people would shut up and eat crow for being so wrong! Oh well – haters are gonna hate no matter what!

I’m really happy for Kevin Smith, who went from unemployed and watching football on the couch on Sundays, to playing the best football of his career.

Not bad for just 3 years after the Matt Millen disaster era! Looking forward to next fall!

I’m shocked, yet pleasantly surprised.

The Saints have a west coast trip for a game outside up next. That wasn’t kind to them last year against a sub .500 team. We’ll see if this year is any different. The 49ers are a very good football team, unlike last year’s Seahawks. That 49er defense gives them a chance whenever they take the field and they excel in the king daddy of all stats, TO margin.

The Saints offense is just SICK.

I’m glad someone else commented about Brees’ incredible luck with dropped INTs. He throws 2-3 easy picks a game and these damn d-backs prove week after week why they’re not WRs. It’s pretty amazing, really.

Anyways, vote only on this last comment please: thumbs up if you think Schwartz is anywhere from shady to borderline sniveling weasel. Thumbs down if you think he’s an alright guy.
