Bills quarterbacks coach George Cortez leaves for the CFL

georgecortez

Two years ago, when the Bills needed a quarterbacks coach, they reached into the Canadian Football League and hired George Cortez, who had been the Calgary Stampeders’ offensive coordinator. Now Cortez has decided he wants to go back north of the border.

Cortez has been hired as the new head coach and director of football operations of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

George did an excellent job during his time with us and I want to offer my congratulations to him in his new role as head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-cats,” Bills head coach Chan Gailey said in a statement. “We’re excited for him with this new opportunity and wish him the best of luck.”

Cortez has spent most of his coaching career in Canada. With the Tiger-Cats he will replace Marcel Bellefeuille, which I mention mostly because I think “Marcel Bellefeuille” sounds like the perfect name for a Canadian Football League coach.

He left the Bills for the CFL, enough said.

Ryan Fitzpatrick owes Cortez some of that $24m guaranteed $ that he helped get him.

Cortez was a solid offensive coordiantor in Calgary, winning a championship before he left, and in the CFL in general. Good to see him get a HC gig, and now will have the same QB he won his last championship with 4 years ago.

Why would anyone hire an assistant coach from the Bills?

Understand the decision from him, unlike Joetoronto who doesn’t know that he’ll likely be earning 4-5 times what he is earning now essentially taking on two positions.

Coach leaves for an CFL team. Buffalo will be getting a CFL team soon after the Bills say bye-bye for greener pastures. Sounds like a fair exchange.

LOL better to be in the CFL than in Buffalo

Wow, a Bills leaving Buffalo joke. Very original. Think that up all by yourself? Good job!

CFL Head Coach > NFL Quarterbacks Coach

Canadian goes back to Canada. Patriotism isn’t strictly American.

Thank you RexRyanfork…there is still time for the old chicken wing, cold weather and the ever popular 4 Super Bowl loses jokes! We have heard them all people, feel free to list the teams you cheer for because unless you cheer for NE/Pitt/GB or NO, I really don’t want to here from you!

I don’t know. Try playoff teams like the Texans, the Falcons, the Giants, the Broncos, and the Saints, just off the top of my head.
