First off, I understand to some degree what your saying however the ”Rooney Rule” was designed to give black coaches a ” fair and equitable opportunity ” to coach in a league that is primarily driven by black athletes under ownership that is primarily white. So in the end we all have to abolish a ” convoluted” outlook and try to embrace some form of egalitarian behavior if it truly exist.

Now, seeing how Romeo was “Tagged” as the “Interm” head coach, and then after the season named the “head coach”, and basically the same thing was done last year in Minnesota with Frazier. Can we please get rid of the “Rooney” rule. That is just another thing that furthers “racism” in society today. Owners and GM’s know who they would like to make as their next head coach, and the “Rooney” rule basically is just another thing to bring “racism” to the surface. This, and Minnesota last season are reasons why we don’t need this whole “Rooney” rule in place anymore. Both places already had their heart set on who they wanted as a coach. It’s not because they want to appease this “Rooney” rule, and allow an african american to coach a team. It’s because they feel this person is the one that can turn the team around, and lead them to championships. So abolish the “Rooney” rule, and allow teams to choose who they want, without “racism” coming to the surface. Skin color doesn’t matter whether it’s playing the game, or coaching the game. What get’s anyone a HC position is they have excelled at a different position. Crennel was a very good defensive coordinator, and deserved a second chance at being a HC. Wasn’t skin color or nationality, or race that got him into this position. It was his track record as a defensive coordinator, and the fact that when he became the “intern” head coach, he beat the undefeated Green Bay Packers. Which nobody had done all season. That right there is a pretty good piece to add to his resume.. Between that, and the job he has done with their defense was enough to give him a second chance at being a HC.

This is smart move. Pioli has ensured that the defense will continue to improve under Crennel. That defense has come a long way!

Now to find a QB that will keep the defense off the field more often than less! No more of those ridiculous 3 and out drives!

Actually, he could get Brian Daboll as the offensive coordinator and that’s not that bad of a thing because he got Brandon Marshall a Pro Bowl birth with two backup quality quarterbacks and helped Reggie Bush play like a starting tailback.

Somewhere, Charlie Weis is kicking himself. He and Crennel would’ve likely been joint HC’s. I’d take Romeo over Weis though.

I guess the only knock on Coach Crennel is his age. You don’t see many coaches in the 64-65 age range getting a shot (or in Crennel’s case, and second shot).

But, he’s a good football mind and a great man. If the players love him and play for him, more power to him.

i think Crennel’s defense had more to do with it, the packers offense is scary and that was shut down and he held the broncos offense to 3 points. i love this hire, he deserves another shot and if i am the Chiefs i go after McDaniels REAL fast to coach the offense.

I am surprised by the general sentiment lauding this hire. Great, great dc, good man but out of his depth as a hc. I would guess that he is just too nice of a guy to be effective, at least that’s how it seemed in Cleveland. I suspect it will work out for a little while as a stark contrast to Haley (bad cop good cop), but no way in the long term. Bad hire. You’ll see KC. Sorry.

The players love Romeo, because he lets them run the show. Eventually, being loyal to players and coaches because you like them , blows up in your face. Unless Romeo hires a top notch O.C. with strong discipline they will implode eventually. I hope not for his sake, because Romeo is a genuinely good guy, just don’t know if he can handle the head coach title.

As a browns fan i am very happy for crennel. Savage as a General Manager did a horrible job finding him players to fit his scheme. Savage drafted by talent not scheme. Oh this guy can play LB in a 3-4 oh he should be a beast in a 4-3. Savage= worst GM ever. Sorry eagle fans.

There’s nothing like chiefs fans, first two games of the season they give up 41 & 48 pts, they start calling for Romeo & Haley’s head, then win 4 in a row against trash teams and are asking for the team to sign Haley to an extension. Then lose 4 in a row and run Haley out of town, then romeo beats GB and is given the head job and called the savior. I love it.

For those questioning Romeo being a players coach and being too “soft” and not enough of a disciplinarian? Just ask Dwayne Bowe who was replaced by Terrance “you’ll probably have to google my name to know who I am” Copper for the first quarter of the Packers game because he missed a team meeting and didn’t follow team protocol.

The concern when it comes to Crennel isn’t so much about him being too soft but rather his in game management. It’s going to take the right coordinators in his ear who are willing to step up during the week and help him with game management on Sundays to make this work.

The primary reason Crennel failed in Cleveland was because he outright refused to get rid of Mo Carthon, long after everyone and their mothers knew that Carthon’s game plans were junk. Everyone (not just fans, but experts, anylists, etc.) were ALL screaming about how Carthon was severely holding back the team, but because Crennel was a close, personal friend, he wouldn’t cut Carthon loose. Eventually, under extreme pressure (probably the risk of his own job), he fired Carthon, let Jeff Davidson take over, and the offense got better IMMEDIATELY.

So that’s what you’ve got in Crennel. A guy who will hurt his team just to keep his buddies around. No thanks. Nice guy, but a milquetoast of a coach.

As far as Belicheck “failing” in Cleveland, give me a break. He was a rookie HC at the time who took a 3-13 team, doubled their wins the following year, added another win the following year, and managed to 11-5 in the third year and won a playoff game. I wouldn’t call that ‘failure.” I’d call it “pretty decent for a first time head coach,” but hey- whatever works for you.

I like the move for consistency’s sake; the defense was not the problem in KC, and with Eric Berry returning next year (and hopefully a re-signed Brandon Carr), it’ll be elite with a draft & free agency to fill depth.

What this team needs is a QB, an OL, and a VERY STRONG offensive coordinator who can basically just be in charge of that side of the team.

The only thing I worry about with Crennel is what was said above: he’s a big teddy bear, from what we see most of the time.

This team was hard because of Haley and can’t afford to go soft.

RAC as HC is a great move, now the Chiefs need to get busy finding an OC. The defense is starting to come together nicely, but the offense is just terrible.

Once they find the OC, they need to find a QB. Cassel has proved that he is not a franchise qb or even a starter of any consequence in the NFL. He will make a great backup for many years, if he is smart enough to embrace the role and not try to leave to be a starter.

KC has a ton of money to spend, and they are required to spend a whole lot more this year than they have in the past. This should mean that they will be very active in free agency this off season. I just hope they don’t waste it on a franchised QB again… Like the way they bought Cassel after a season in NE, now the media is hyping M. Flynn after he had 1 (that’s 1, one, uno) game and speculating the same kind of situation that Pioli fell for last time.

If the Chiefs want to spend big on an unproven QB, I’d much rather see them blow a wad and a pick or two for RG3 if he comes out.

Please fix the O, Romeo! Best of luck in 2012! CHIEFS!!

I hope he works out for KC better than he did in Cleveland. Great defensive coordinator but not able to bring discipline for the team. Look eg. to his handling of Braylon. I’m afraid the inmates started running the asylum. Also, I’m reminded of his” let’s flip a coin” as to who would start at QB.
