Johnny Lynn fired by Eagles

AP

The Eagles announced Saturday afternoon that cornerbacks coach Johnny Lynn was no longer with the team.

That’s a nice way of saying Lynn was fired. The team released the news just before the playoff games started for the weekend, indicating they were hoping to bury it as a news item.

That strategy should work. Lynn is the first defensive coach to go; it’s uncertain if coordinator Juan Castillo will keep his job.

  1. This should hopefully be the first move in bringing Spags here. Maybe they bury Castillo in the CB coach spot to make room.

  2. He proved when he was here that he was awful. That read and react nonsense that he had my guys in got us shredded when we blew the lead vs. SF in the 2002 Wild Card.

  3. Bring in BDawk to coach this secondary. He’ll have them all watch fight club and have them memorize the entire movie, he’ll turn this wad of cookie dough into carved wood.

  4. For you guys that want Spagnuolo- remember that he built a terrible defense in St. Louis. The defense he coached in NY was pretty much established already, so you better hope that if the Eagles do get him, that he doesn’t have much say over personnel.

Btw great job cutting donald lee and keeping Ronnie brown. another smart move.
    —————————————————
We had to make that move though.Eagles had Clay Harbor and Celek at the TE position and we dont need 3 Tight ends on the roster and needed a back up RB , because we did not know what Dion Lewis was going to be as a back up RB so you had to make that move.

  6. was he fired (with years left)… or was his contract over and no effort made to extend or renew?

technicality, perhaps. but it is a difference.

  7. Now fire Juan Castillio and sign Spags.I am not surprised by this fire because, how do you take a very good CB squad with Nnamdi , Asante , DRC , Hanson , and struggle with them ?Now all we got to know is who do we sign at the CB’s coach ?

  8. Let me be the first to say goodby to the defensive coordinator. Hasta luega Juan. And thanks for nothing!!!

  9. I’d like Spags to come back but Spags is a Jim Johnson deciple which means lots of blitzes…..need better safety and LB to pull that off….Castillo can go back to O line coach…..not open a taco bell like some have said on here lol

  10. Lol at all these idiot philly fans. Reid treated Spags like crap and you dopes think he is gonna run back there?! Man you people are the worst. I think he would have already went back if he was going. Spags is waiting to see what options he has cuz in reality going back to that trash team in Philly is probably that last thing he wants to do.

  11. Clears throat a couple times. “I take full responsibility”. “Gotta do a better job”. Clears throat again. Juan Castillo will be the DC in 2012……

Every year we need a scapegoat, this year it’s Lynn. Who will it be next year, Andy?

Not much of a scapegoat if nobody knew who he was until he got fired. Nobody really blamed him for anything.

  13. Hey Prom girl Reid and Spagnola get along fine. He let Spags, who was under contract with the Eages go to division rival the Giants and advance hits career when JJ was still alive. How many head coaches would do that? Morons like yourself should go back to Puke Town where you belong.

  14. Maybe Juan Castillo can coach the cornerbacks.

He was apparently good enough to go from the offensive line to defensive coordinator.

  15. BLEED4philly, So just because a coach gets fired, does that really mean Andys making him the scapegoat? Maybe Andy should keep every coach and ever single player from the 53 man roster just to show that he’s not pointing the finger at anyone, huh? Who gives a sh#@ if Johnny Lynn got fired?! Im sure the Eagles will find a way to carry on without him.

  16. BLEED4PHILLY…

    What about…

    McCoy – 2nd round
    Jackson – 2nd round
    Herremans – 5th Round
    Trent Cole – 5th Round
    Jason Kelce – 6th Round
    Avant – 4th round
    Maclin – 1st round
Kolb – 2nd round (and got us picks at the time and then a 2nd and Rodgers-Cromartie)

… and because you mentioned Freddie Mitchell and opened it up to former players, how about Westbrook in the 3rd round?

  17. They could bring in Buddy Ryan circa 85 and it wouldn’t make a difference.

Good coaches lose 1 bad game a year not 5. If Juan was the problem then Reid should have done something during the season let alone during the games. Nothing like going on an irrelevant 4 game winning streak to end a season.

Anything short of a super bowl win is a failed season. What Eagles fan would be happy with another playoff loss regardless of the round?

  18. Spags makes perfect sense.. defense was horrible majority of the season. Corners played like crap along with the linebackers.

  19. Lynn must be an awful coach, the Niners and Giants couldn’t wait to get rid of him, and Andy’s pretty loyal even to bad coaches ( Rory Segrest lasted forever), so for him to last just one season, he had to be bad. Juan deserves better than demotion to dback coach, so it’ll be interesting to see what the Eagles do next.

  20. I FIND IT HYSERICAL THAT THE ONLY GOOD DEF. COAH (OUTSIDE OF THE D LINE) GETS FIRED. HERE IS THE FACTS….DETRIOT, HOUSTON, 49ERS ETC. ARE PLAYING AND REID IS WATCHING THEM.. FACT:THE EAGLES ARE GOING BACKWARDS. FACT ANYBODY THAT THOUGHT CASEY MATTRESS WAS THE SUPER BOWL MLB NEEDS OXYGEN. REIDS DECESIONS ARE PUTRID. MAKING ALL PRO CORNERS DO WHAT THEY ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH, MOVING UP TO TAKE BRANDON FLOP GRAHM AND PASSING ON PIERRE PAUL. THINKING 5′-9″ 7TH ROUND LINEBACKERS WERE THE ANSWER. THEIR IS A GUARANTEED SUPER BOWL COACH AVAIL…..BILL COWHER X EAGLES LINEBACKER….
