Lots of misconceptions here. First the picture above is not related to the issue at hand. That is an NFL hat and the number 9 on it is his number.

Stafford made an appearance on some pregame show. He was wearing a Detroit Tigers hat. A hat he started wearing quite a bit as soon as he signed his deal. What the hub bub is a about is that he went on TV wearing something other then a Lions or NFL hat.

The problem is that it wasn’t one of the NFL mandate team presentations. It was a one on one that him or the team scheduled on their own.

The NFL should be more concerned with the officiating that’s taking place, which is awful, rather than what hat someone is wearing.

Another NFL player was fined for not using the official restroom.
Except Nick Novak who can apparently do it wherever he wants.

Seems like I saw Sproles (I think) wearing a Cincinatti Reds hat in one his head shots for the network…shouldn’t that count as official? I think what the NFL is trying to say is that the players should not be trying to make any non-NFL money.

On SNF when players introduce themselves, they wear non-NFL hats. I think Dwight Freeny wore a Yankees hat and Roy Williams wore a Texas Longhorns hat.

I’m sure that wearing an. MLB, NBA, or any other logo associated with a pro sports league will no draw a fine. When you are promoting a consumer product which relies on advertisement for promotion is a different story. I am no more inclined to.watch a baseball fame than I was to buy the energy bars produced by the company Welker was promoting. Can we reserve the bandwidth and digital ink to stories that matter.

There was no commercial aspect to Stafford’s hat. Welker, Urlacher and Lynch all had corporate an monetary reasons to wear what they wore. Stafford did not.

Pats fans are particularly sensitive to the subject because receiver Wes Welker recently was slapped with a $10,000 fine for wearing an unauthorized hat.
