Broncos coordinator Allen to meet with Rams

Well, here’s an unexpected development in the Rams head coaching search.  They are interviewing someone else other than Jeff Fisher.

The Rams will interview Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen for their head coaching job on Thursday, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fisher is expected to decide between the Rams and Dolphins this week. The Dolphins have started interviewing candidates again while they wait for Fisher, and it appears the Rams are doing the same.

Perhaps it’s a way to pressure Fisher to make a decision. Maybe it’s a sign the Rams are worried that Fisher won’t say yes to their offer.

More likely it’s just the Rams covering their bases. Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is the only other known name that the Rams have met with about their top job.

Rams please get fisher, I dont want him coaching my Fins. Plus why would he want to work for our dumb ass owner. Wish we got Jim Harbaugh last year, Go Phins 2012!

He’s really going to have a job interview the Thursday before a playoff game in Foxboro?

  3. kd75 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:10 PM

That’s a Saturday 8pm game. There’s no way Allen would fly to StLoo on Wednesday for a job interview on Thursday while prepping for a playoff game on Saturday.

  4. roamingabriel says: Jan 9, 2012 10:11 PM

Perhaps or maybe this is what the Rams said they were going to do.
    It’s called “Plan B”.

  5. mrplow3 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:12 PM

Tebow needs coaching stability. Denver better hope he flops in his interview.

  6. habsman says: Jan 9, 2012 10:13 PM

Wouldn’t it be funny if Mr. Fisher’s arogance results in him obtaining neither of the two jobs?

  7. mcjon22 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:15 PM

Not very smart of the Rams to have not of interviewed multiple candidates by now. But then again, it is the Rams

  8. elmustardo says: Jan 9, 2012 10:20 PM

Have the Rams met with any minority candidates to satisfy the Rooney rule?

  9. dlew2191 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:23 PM

    This is what happened:

Kroenke doesn’t want to admit he made a mistake with McDaniels as O-coordinator.

So McDaniels makes a deal with Kroenke: I’ll leave on my own without you firing me IF you interview Denver’s D-coordinator Allen.

McDaniels made Kroenke interview Allen to mess up Denver’s preparation for Tom Brady and McDaniels’ offense in NE.

This makes McDaniels look good again.

I’m just jk-ing but this would be funny if it were true!

    @ mrplow3

yeah, Tebow needs the defensive coordinator for coaching stability

    come on now

  11. samtheram says: Jan 9, 2012 10:24 PM

He would have his interview in Denver, just like they did with Fisher.

  12. scyankee9999 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:30 PM

Fisher flew to Denver after leaving St Louis. Maybe to hire a defensive coordinator?

  13. beavertonsteve says: Jan 9, 2012 10:30 PM

The Ray Horton interview took care of the Rooney Rule requirement.

  14. finsfrenzy says: Jan 9, 2012 10:35 PM

As a Dolphins fan the more time goes by the more I don’t want Fisher. This dude is just playing the system; I thought he had potential but I think he’s going to end up hurting one team a lot by making them wait for him to say no. Very arrogant for someone with no rings…..

  15. fittytuckin says: Jan 9, 2012 10:36 PM

    @elmustardo

Shhh! That is forbidden speak. Everytime I bring it up my comment gets erased.

  16. bigredjbird says: Jan 9, 2012 10:37 PM

@mustardo did you read the article? They interviewed Ray Horton. If you don’t know who he is, google him.

I hear that it’s possible from a source close to the situation that Fisher thinks maybe McKenzie will fire Jackson and then Fisher will be able to wear black like he did with the Bears when he worked for Buddy Ryan while Rex was a kid so I think he’s going to the Eagles to be DC there again…

  18. silverhornet says: Jan 9, 2012 10:42 PM

I don’t know that Dennis Allen is qualified to be a HC. Seems like the Rams are trying to interview anyone just to put pressure on Fisher. Allen is the only they could get.

  19. thetruth1313 says: Jan 9, 2012 10:52 PM

Or maybe he will get hired on the spot Thursday, the Patriots will request permission to speak to him and the Rams say ok. The Patriots hire him Saturday morning and get the rest of the info that McHoodie couldn’t provide? Belichick had this planned all along, right Patriot haters?!?!?

He has a ring. He was on IR with the ’85 Bears, his last season as a player. That’s when he started coaching for Ryan…

  22. godofwine330 says: Jan 9, 2012 11:12 PM

Never understood this. He was an average coordinator running a college offense for much of the season…and you want him to be your head coach? Epic fail upcoming

  23. objectivenflfan says: Jan 9, 2012 11:22 PM

Dennis Allen won’t fly to St. Louis before the game Saturday.

Kroenke lives in the Denver area, remember, he owns the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche too.

Jeff Fisher interviewed in Denver last week too, not St. Louis.

  24. 8drinkminimum says: Jan 9, 2012 11:28 PM

    @wadecounty.

So Ross is a “dumb ass” and you wish we had signed Jim Harbaugh?

Who the hell do you think tried to sign Harbaugh last season? Hint….it wasn’t Joe Robbie.

  25. beeroncos says: Jan 9, 2012 11:30 PM

7 D-Coordinators in 7 years? No thanks! I like what Allen has done this season. Need Elway and co to “pull the trigger” and keep him in his spot.

  26. howiehandles says: Jan 9, 2012 11:32 PM

How do you know they’re not flying to him? It certainly could have been a condition of the interview.

  27. miamike says: Jan 10, 2012 12:11 AM

You so called Dolphin fans are crazy!!! Fisher is not flashy, but he’ll bring stability to this franchise…….I hope this is not just a BS report, and the Fins still got a shot with him.

  28. stopthehate15bowdown says: Jan 10, 2012 12:11 AM

Not one to favor lots of rule changes but how about the nfl restricts the interview and hiring process until after the Superbowl (unless you are going to keep the interim coach). That would reward teams who promote from within and give both teams and coaches a level playing field for the old Coaching Carousel!

  29. hanktheking says: Jan 10, 2012 1:00 AM

Kronke lives in Denver. Allen lives in Denver. Everyone needs to relax.

Bears wear navy blue & orange… Not black

  31. handlethehandles says: Jan 10, 2012 2:50 AM

hmm are we seriously saying that fischer wouldnt be great for either the rams or miami… ha funny how bad teams have stupid fans… go ahead pick up crappy coordinators instead of fischer.. ha isnt that what you just had?

Worry about beating the devil Pats this weekend.

  33. girlsinthesouthlovefootball says: Jan 10, 2012 5:16 AM

More importantly, why aren’t teams interviewing Mike McCoy?!?! He seems capable of handling anything.

Oh the irony. His name is Fisher, not fischer.

  35. mattmillen4president says: Jan 10, 2012 8:52 AM

    @roaminggabriel
Less rambling, more coherent thoughts. I can’t even follow your Raiders-Bears-Eagles “logic”.

  36. ace3hundred says: Jan 10, 2012 10:55 AM

He is not allowed to interview for a job until the Broncos are eliminated per nfl rules.

Also he is not going there to be jeff fishers defensive coordinator. Teams seldom let their current coaches under contract interview for a lateral move, only for a promotion

  37. broncotony says: Jan 10, 2012 11:24 AM

I Don’t want any of our cordinators to leave. However, if I had to see one go it would be Dennis Allen. I think McCoy is a much bigger asset.
