Should we take away one of Flacco’s wins in the post season because his team got out to a 28-7 half time lead, and there was no reason to throw the ball? How does Flacco having 10 attempts make him better or worse than Ryan? Can you please find me a QB that can win a game by only throwing (and/or rushing) the ball 10 times?

I get what you’re saying…you’re saying that Flacco didn’t really win that game so comparing playoff wins against Ryan is mute because Flacco didn’t really win that game. Ok, fair enough. What about at Kansis City last year when he threw a couple TD passes and put up decent numbers? What about the Titans game 3 years ago when he delivered a two minute drill drive to put Stover into FG position to win the game?

What if Flacco delivers another effective game with 2 or 3 TD passes against Houston to give him a 5-3 playoff record? What will you say then? Oh well he has Ray Rice and a good defense? Matt Ryan’s offense is LOADED. Flacco had a 36 year WR who’s not even in the NFL anymore. In time, I think this will become less of a debate because Flacco will continue to win and Ryan will continue to choke.

RE: your first paragraph-Nope, I’m just not big on saying any one player “has” a W-L record. HCs have W-L records. Franchises have W-L records. Not individual players in team sports. Flacco has played well in losses and poorly in wins, like a lot of other QBs. As to the last sentence of that paragraph, FLACCO is one who threw 10 passes and won so I am not sure what your questions was.

I don’t look at W-L or rings in evaluating players. I look at does he help or hurt his team in its journey to GET rings/wins. Much as I dislike Peyton Manning, I never thought it was fair to say “nanny nanny boo boo Brady has 3 rings and he has none that’s the reason Brady’s better” prior to 06. If he’s more of a reason that holds a team back then he’s not great. And if he elevates his team/his unit he is.

You are correct that Flacco has never had the WR corps that Ryan has now. There have been times they have let him down more than a pro WR corps should. That’s a counter to Ryan never having Flacco’s defense backing him. My sole point was really that neither guy is usually (not EVER, but USUALLY) a main reason their team wins. But they aren’t bad players. Just average with a ceiling of above average.

I personally would love a world where an above average QB, a great run game and nasty D wins a SB more often. I like that style better than this arena league stuff that’s the norm now . It’s nice to see teams like Balt, SF, Den and Hou in the dance. I like all of their styles of play. Atl is too finesse. My team has been a victim of that too so I know it when I see it, unfortunately. My team has a difference maker type of QB though so it isn’t as glaring as it is with Atl.

With all that talent the Falcons have you would think they would be more dominant?!

At least now we know what he is called Matty Ice. Because when it matters most he gets real cold and can’t hit the passes he needs. As far as comparing our defenses you have a valid point, but lets also say that Joe Flacco has nothing like Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony G playing for him. And the Falcons have one of the better OL’s in the league.

Two years ago, Bob Costas had an interview in ’09 with Matt Ryan and made mention of the fact of how Tim Tebow (@UF then) was more recognizable in Atlanta than him. The team is in the unfortunate position of not getting serious media scrutiny. It doesn’t help that CNN closed its sports div several years ago.

Matt Ryan and the Falcons, so consistent compared with the past, are way too good for the results they’re gotten so far. The team needs to be examined in some way from the outside. If not the media, then consultants ought to be brought in. I guess Dan Reeves could be brought back in some capacity, maybe?

If Ryan ever went something like 4/10 with an INT in a playoff game and won no one would credit him with having any part in a victory. I watched Flacco have that game against my team in the playoffs in 09 and win.
