Nothing against Crennel, but has there ever been an interim head coach that worked out? A few come to mind;

Michael Singletary
Jason Garrett
Leslie Frazier
Raheem Morris
Cable (Oakland)
------------------------------------
Looks like your memory goes back about maybe two years and it's not even that good (Morris was never't an interim coach)

How about:
Wayne Fontes
Jeff Fisher
Marty Schottenheimer
Bill Parcells

To answer your question, it's a crap shoot and probably has more to do with ability, and the roster than whether they ever served as an interim coach before.

It doesn't really matter who the Chiefs hire as there hc. The simple fact is the Hunts could care less about fielding an elite team. No matter what happens they know Arrowhead will be packed whether the Chiefs are good or bad due to the fact they are the only game in town. There is no competition for pro sports dollars in the area so its a virtual monopoly for the Hunt family. No pro basketball, a perpetual loser in baseball and no other NFL teams within 4 hours in any direction. I wish Romeo the best of luck, but save for old Marty, very few coaches leave KC and get another HC gig.

Jeff Fisher was an interim coach that worked out for the Oilers/Titans. He was the longest then-current tenured coach at the time of his firing, and right now he seems to be the hottest coaching candidate in this year's crop of openings.

Crennel did a GOOD job in cleveland, he drafted QUALITY players, built a decent team, and got screwed over by idiot city who listens to the fans too much. He made DEREK ANDERSON a PRO BOWLER for effin sake. seriously, the guy is a GOOD head coach and deserves another shot, nobody could have turned around that abysmal cleveland franchize in less than 6 years, PERIOD

Absolutely the right move for the Chiefs. After the reach for the next young talent that was made with Haley, this hire absolutely had to be an established NFL coach with a track record of success as either an HC or a coordinator (or both).

The only candidates that fit the bill were Fisher, Cowher and RAC. Cowher doesn't want to get back in yet and Fisher didn't want the job.

The choice of OC will be huge but I'm already looking forward to next season.

Congrats, Romeo!!

Kansas City front office is going to see an influx of Christmas presents next year from their AFC West rivals.

Terrible hire. None....and I repeat none...of Belichick's coaching tree from NE have worked out as HC in the NFL.

1. Crennel - Fired in Cleveland

2. McDaniels - Fired in Denver

3. Mangini - Fired in NY and Cleveland...Damn Cleveland

There were better hires out their than Crennel. What about giving Russ Grimm a chance. And can't be any worse.

Didn’t we see Romeo as a head coach before? Cleveland? He is a great D cord but that’s the limit for him — I’m a Browns fan and I saw him lose that team within the first 3 weeks. Bad move KC, bad move.
——————————————–

The last time Browns’ fans made that call was when the Patriots hired BB. That hasn’t been too bad of a move.

__
Now all Romeo has to do is find a reliable cameraman to be his wingman on the sidelines.

Didn’t we see Romeo as a head coach before? Cleveland? He is a great D cord but that’s the limit for him — I’m a Browns fan and I saw him lose that team within the first 3 weeks. Bad move KC, bad move.
--------------------------------------------

The last time Browns' fans made that call was when the Patriots hired BB. That hasn't been too bad of a move.

To those stating the “Rooney rule”, the chiefs interviewed a lot of canidates, including the GB OC, Fischer, Brian Schottenheimer, Josh McDaniels, and Del Rio.

Plus wouldn't Del Rio be a minority candidate? I think Hispanic descent qualifies.

While the Browns were a mess before Crennel came to Cleveland, he didn't exactly set the world on fire as their coach either. No doubt that Phil Savage was a really bad GM too. Leave it to the Browns to go from Crennel to Mangini to Shumur. Terrible to even worse to just doesn't have a frigging clue. You cannot argue with a man had a Coors light commerical and 10-6 record in 2007! Good Luck KC ! The last Browns coach you hired worked out pretty well for you.

Here's a question... will we now see Mangini in KC as the D Coordinator installing Romeo's defenses? And possibly the promotion of Zorn to Offensive coordinator?
