Antrel Rolle: “We’re a very cocky team”

Antrel Rolle AP

I got a chance to interview Giants safety Antrel Rolle for PFT Live on Tuesday.

Well, actually this one wasn’t live. We got a hold of Rolle right after the show ended, so we taped the segment to show it below.

The Giants defense has been a different group the last three weeks, giving up only 30 points combined in their last three must win games. I asked Rolle what made him think the Giants defense would hold the Packers under 38 points this around.

“I don’t think it. I know it,” Rolle said.

In the clip below, Rolle explains why this Giants defense has become such a “cocky” group and how he does most of the talking for the team.

You can watch Rolle’s interview entire right here.

  3. jmsincla says: Jan 10, 2012 2:13 PM

Really? Just like the Giants would beat the Redskins 99/100 times? Don’t make me root for the Packers Rolle.

  4. jrmbadger says: Jan 10, 2012 2:18 PM

This just keeps getting worse for the Jets- e.r., I mean the Giants. It’s gonna be enjoyable to watch them lose.

  5. jrzproud says: Jan 10, 2012 2:18 PM

Ugghh… I really wish some of these guys would just shutup and let their play on the field do the talking…

I say this as a Giants fan.

  6. sschmiggles says: Jan 10, 2012 2:19 PM

Leave it to a pro athlete to brag about being overconfident for no reason.

  7. emoney826 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:22 PM

    Keep talking, you morons.

  8. tnc722 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:24 PM

Im so tired of listening to players in New York guarantee things. Youre right dumbass…. The Pack will put up 42 this time.

  9. phillyrick22 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:27 PM

we already knew this, I thought this was a ‘news’ site???

  10. drgreenstreak says: Jan 10, 2012 2:27 PM

Rolle is a genius! Too bad he has to play the game in the real world where his mouth rarely cashes the check. Not impressed with this clown.

  11. rpiotr01 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:29 PM

If memory serves, much of Antrel Rolle’s “talking” before Packer games has been followed by a thorough beating by the Packer O. Maybe he should tone it down a little.

  12. huskersrock1 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:29 PM

Why can’t these players learn to keep their head down and their mouth shut and let their playing do the talking on the field.

  13. westclaims says: Jan 10, 2012 2:29 PM

I’m just glad this guy is NOT a Cardinal anymore.

  14. airinrodgers says: Jan 10, 2012 2:30 PM

The one who talks to the most is also the one who gets torched the most.

  15. boover3 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:31 PM

Keep talking Giants…amazing what happens when you win a wild card game.

  16. theenricopalazzo says: Jan 10, 2012 2:31 PM

And he keeps talking. How did that end up for you last December?

  17. baroneski29 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:35 PM

Coming from a Giants fan. It’s getting sickening hearing them shoot off at the mouth. You gave up 38 points last game. Just shut your mouth and play.

  18. test2402 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:37 PM

Tim Tebow would embarrass this wanna be football team.

  19. skinsnation703 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:38 PM

I think he said that the Giants would beat the Redskins 99/100 times after we beat them week 1…. Then we beat them again. Keep talking it’s working out great thus far.

  20. dmvgiant says: Jan 10, 2012 2:41 PM

What’s bigger his mouth or his ears? He should listen more than he talks

    ————————————————–

That’s doubtless. I’d imagine it should be more enjoyable, though, to watch your team win.

But if comments like these would add to your enjoyment, does that mean they’ll add to your disappointment if the Packers lose?

I mean, naturally if the Giants lose, everyone will say, “Well, of course,” but with championship defense on the line, 15-1, and a brash and annoyingly arrogant east coast team – Ugh. What if they actually win? That’ll suck.

  23. 2difshoe says: Jan 10, 2012 2:45 PM

    WOW !

Sure Antrel….get back to us Monday, that’s if your re*tum isn’t to sore.

Just shut up and play !

  24. dachozen1 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:50 PM

At least the Giants resemble more of a football team than Green Bay. This is a battle for the way the game is supposed to be played vs. 7 on 7 passing drills. I am not a fan of the Giants but I hope the Giants beat Green Bay with the National Fantasy League rules. How can 1 of the best teams in the league have the worse ranked defense? That’s an oxymoron, moron!

  25. firethorn1001 says: Jan 10, 2012 2:51 PM

‘I think he said that the Giants would beat the Redskins 99/100 times after we beat them week 1…. Then we beat them again. Keep talking it’s working out great thus far.’
    ——————————–

He could still be right. Granted, they would have to win 198 times in a row now…

  26. 13forgbp says: Jan 10, 2012 2:55 PM

What is with these clowns? Do they need a reminder that they are a 9-7 team? To hear all this noise coming from them you would think they were 15-1. And not a whisper from the Packers…..that tells you all you need to know.

  27. bigbluelou says: Jan 10, 2012 2:56 PM

Another case of Ryanitis. Poor man. As TC states “Talk is Cheap, Play the Game” (Harding).

  28. packersownerandshareholder says: Jan 10, 2012 3:02 PM

Please let these guys keep talking and being overconfident, it’s playing right into our hands.

  29. dfinpds says: Jan 10, 2012 3:10 PM

    Rex…..pierre paul……rolle……gotta be a new york thing……..

  30. theslex says: Jan 10, 2012 3:11 PM

This idiot is STILL running his mouth?

  31. localbandhero says: Jan 10, 2012 3:12 PM

One NY team has a coach that wont stop bragging and predicting, another has players.

How about Rex coach the Giants, that oughta be a good fit.

  32. packersownerandshareholder says: Jan 10, 2012 3:16 PM

Antrel Rolle has been demoted to Nickel Back. I’m just sayin’

  33. jdandcoke says: Jan 10, 2012 3:31 PM

yeah….the giants held a good dallas offense in check and just totally shut down a pretty good atlanta offense, but they have NOTHING to feel good about…ok.

haters and packers fans: if you honestly think the giants D hasnt been totally revamped over the last three weeks, then you havent been paying attention. the giants will most likely lose to a great offense, put the pack aint putting up more than 30.

and does anyone realy think rolle’s mouth willmatter? if you do, what are you in the 6th grade?

  34. jarrman46 says: Jan 10, 2012 3:35 PM

The medias already blowing smoke up big blues butt this week talking about its 2007 all over again. All you here is what the Giants are going to do to the Packers. I cant wait for all these experts who are predicting the Packers loss to be kissing there butts on Monday morning. I have a feeling that this game might get really ugly for the old g-man. Rodgers might drop 6 touchdowns on that overated team and then Matt Flynn will come in and give them a couple more.

  35. nyjalleffingday says: Jan 10, 2012 3:40 PM

See, Giants fans? Our respective teams aren’t all that different. The real difference is we’ll just come out and say it and not care what anyone thinks, and you’ll just ride the high horse named Obnoxious into the sunset with your chin in the sky the entire way.

  36. fissels says: Jan 10, 2012 3:40 PM

Nothing wrong with a positive attitude but he should keep that talk to himself

  37. jrmbadger says: Jan 10, 2012 3:43 PM

Champions do their talking with their play on the field.

I’m surprised Tom Coughlin hasn’t clamped down on this a little bit.

  38. rcb0424 says: Jan 10, 2012 3:44 PM

JPP was asked the questioni if he thought the Giants would win as he was getting up to leave the interview. He said yes. Then the reporters hounded him as he walked away asking for a percentage so he said 100 as with his back turned to them walking away. Watch the interviews you ingorant packers fans, or do they not have cable TV in wisconsin? You guys still getting PFT via smoke signals? It’s hilarious how many of you need to use this talk as another straw to grasp at and make you feel better knowing the Giants are a legit threat that can come in and beat you. Bottom lines ARE bottom lines. Come Sunday one team wins and one team loses. None of this talk matters to the players. Its not playing into anyones hands. It is what it is, TALK. but keep using it to make yourself not feel queasy heading into Sunday. As a Giants fan I’m sleeping well knowing that if we play our A+ game then we will move on.

  39. philyeagles5 says: Jan 10, 2012 3:45 PM

yeah guys he shouldve just said his team will give up 50. theres nothing better for you confidence then lost hope.

  40. mikey77750 says: Jan 10, 2012 3:51 PM

    Let’s see…

    1. Tragic death of offensive coordinator’s son will motivate the Packers to play for Joe Philbin and the family.

    2. Words of Rolle about guaranteeing a win and holding Packers under a certain amount of points will be billboard material for the Packers.

    3. NFC championship loss in 2007 at Lambeau will motivate Packers for revenge.

Do the Giants have any clue as to what they are doing to make the Packers fully and completely motivated to destroy them on Sunday??

  41. jakek2 says: Jan 10, 2012 3:58 PM

The Giants’ biggest problem all year has been showing up to games flat. As a Giants’ fan, I’m actually glad they are feeling this way and could care less if they’re letting it be known. Beats the alternative….”We’re just hoping to go up to Green Bay and make more good plays than bad and keep growing as a team and getting better”. BLAACHHHH.

Talk it up Antrel. I’ll take this confident Giants’ team anyday over the softies that showed up in New Orleans.

  42. giantsareclassy says: Jan 10, 2012 4:08 PM

Antrel is the embodiment of this team, his classy banter inspires fear in our opponents! Tremble, ye Packers at our classiness! Messrs. Rolle,Tuck, Jacobs, Kiwanuka and of course Mr. Umenyiora (of the Long Island Umenyioras) are classier than someone spilling Cristal on your gigantic fur coat while attending a dog fight on a yacht.

  43. bullcharger says: Jan 10, 2012 4:09 PM

I don’t think the Giants are worried about providing bulletin board material. They are trying to convice themselves they can compete at the same level as Green Bay.

I think McCarthy is no better, yapping about only caring about winning championships, etc.

  44. gcsuk says: Jan 10, 2012 4:10 PM

    ——————————————————————
Way to go on those math skills, vegaskid21. In your world 42 is under 38, huh? Hope you’re not playing 21 in Vegas.

See, it helps if you actually COMPREHEND what someone is saying before you decide to comment on it. Antrel said “UNDER 38″. See how that works? You then pick a number UNDER 38.

Can you please explain to the rest of us what in the world the NY Giants had to do with the tragic death of Michael Philbin? Please do not correlate the two…some things in this world (like the death of a child) just transcend football.

  46. judsonjr says: Jan 10, 2012 4:14 PM

Antrel has fared pretty well versus the Packers in his career.

    2009 – 423, 4TD, 1 INT (45 points)
    2010 – 404, 4TD, 0 INT (45 points)
    2011 – 369, 4TD, 1 INT (38 points)

  47. bluefan204 says: Jan 10, 2012 4:15 PM

Its just talk, people. Why so many of you allow it to get your panties twisted is beyond me. Athletes have been talking for decades, and saying that this will provide bulletin board material is just flat out stupid. Do you honestly think either team requires that kind of motivation?

I’m a Giants fan. Do I wish they’d shut up and play? Yes, of course, but when they do talk, I laugh it off, just as the opposition that they have to face likely does as well.

  48. johngaltwho says: Jan 10, 2012 4:19 PM

Apparently the giants are the hot team and are absolutely gonna win. You can’t spell elite without Eli… Yup, the giants are now healthy and they cant be stopped.

I’m sure the 15 – 1 well rested completely healthy home team Packers are quaking in their boots as we speak.

  49. zaggs says: Jan 10, 2012 4:24 PM

Packers fans seem to forget, if not for the refs the Packers lost last time. We all saw the proof afterwards that Jake Ballard had a touchdown that the refs/NFL refused to allow.

  50. redbeardxxv says: Jan 10, 2012 4:37 PM

Funny how GB fans selectively forget that the last meeting was decided by some bad officiating. Jennings never had possession of the TD they awarded him, and Ballard had possession, proven by Yahoo sports and others after the game. If not for the Zebras, Giants won by 8 points.
If the ref’s aren’t wearing Packers underoos this time, I think the Pack will get a reality check. No guaranteed Giants win, just a reality check.

  51. east96st says: Jan 10, 2012 4:43 PM

“Do the Giants have any clue as to what they are doing to make the Packers fully and completely motivated to destroy them on Sunday??”

So, in other words, you’re such a big fan of the Pack that you think that if those three things had NOT happened, the Packers would have just laid down and gotten steamrolled? Both teams have vets with Super Bowl rings. Both teams have guys that want one of their own or another one. All the rest of this is nonsense that little girls who never played a down in their lives get all worked up about. These are men who are professionals who know what it takes to win it all. You can be sure they are busy studying film and not really giving a damn what’s being said in the press. Both sides know what it is to win it all and know how to get there. The team that makes the fewest mistakes wins and moves on. That simple. The rest is just white noise.

  52. richie500 says: Jan 10, 2012 4:57 PM

I like the Giants this game. They have a great front four that can put pressure on Rodgers without having to blitz.

I’m a neutral fan of this game also.

  53. kingcarlbanks says: Jan 10, 2012 11:29 PM

Love the confidence, hate all the banter. Of course the media loves asking these stupid ass questions knowing these guys love to run there suck. Especially those boys from Miami. Do me a favor Antrel, stop jawing and watch film, get in your Playbook, do something besides give these Packer fans something to crow about. According to them the Pack is lacking in motivation..

  54. calloustongue says: Jan 11, 2012 8:37 AM

Wow are Giants fans a bunch of whining little babies. If you can’t beat a team on the field, you cry about the refs? Bad calls go both ways, but only losers use them as excuses.

Packers played an awful game and the receivers had a case of the dropsies, that day, and the Packers still won.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to be losing his first home playoff game. Not happening.

Giants secondary can’t keep up with GB’s offense, and while GB’s defense may give up some passing yards, that’s usually b/c teams are playing catch-up. Let’s not forget they led the league in INTs and a certain QB from NY has a tendency to throw them.
