Rams get permission to interview Chudzinski

chudzinski_rob-pc

As Jeff Fisher continues to contemplate whether he’ll coach the Rams or the Dolphins (or, perhaps more accurately, as he tries to squeeze every drop of toothpaste out of two competing tubes), the Rams aren’t going to allow themselves to lose leverage to Fisher by not having a Plan B.

As a result, the Rams have sought and received permission to interview Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, per Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

Reed explains that, in Chudzinski’s first season with the team, the Panthers finished seventh in the league in offense, setting a franchise record for yards and scoring 47 touchdowns.

Perhaps more importantly, Chudzinski helped transform quarterback Cam Newton into an instant star, helping him put together the best rookie season for any quarterback.

Then again, maybe it’s not that Chudzinski made Newton look like a great player.  Maybe it’s that Newton made Chudzinksi look like a great coach.

    Poor Rams

He’s definitely helped Cam succeed, and it would suck to lose him. I hope he stays :(

Newton makes coordinators look good. Remember Gus Malzahn at Auburn? Dude was the next up and comer last year and after this year…got absolutely no heat and ended up at….wait for it………..Arkansas State.

As a Panthers fan I think Chuds play calling was overrated all season. Too many times he completely abandoned the run and in St. Louis that will not work.

    Ram on!

I don’t trust a guy with Chud in his name.

The Rams will be issuing commemorative Pocket Protectors upon his hiring.

If anyone saw Cam Newton’s pre-draft workouts it’s obvious that Chudzinski was of great help to Newton – just as Marty Morninwheg turned Mike Vick into a much better passer – EVERYONE has to have a good coach somewhere along the line. I think outstanding positional coaching is greatly underrated. On the other hand, being a head coach is very different from being an OC, DC or position coach.

Rams using Chud to get Fisher to commit the same way the Jags used Chud to get Mularkey to commit, Chud is “that guy” this year.

Cam Newton will make many offensive coordinators look like geniuses over his career. Cam Newton’s mind and skill set is what allowed Chud to open up his play book. I hope we keep him, by the reason I want him to stay here in Charlotte is for the sake of continuity.

Even I could call plays with a guy like Cam Newton at QB.

Didn’t Chudzinski also make Derek Anderson look like a competent QB in Cleveland before Winslow was hurt all the time and that one year that Braylon Edwards didn’t mistake Pam for Stickum?

It’ll be interesting to see if this the case or not. Before taking on the role as OC for the Panthers he was the Chargers TE Coach, and Antonio Gates can make anybody look good.

Rams are nothing. Tim Tebow is everything.

There’s also a possibility that some of the pass heavy playcalling was because they realized Car wasn’t going to be a SB contender this past year and wanted to make sure they put CN in a lot of passing situations to help him develop while they tried to win games.

the panthers should offer him a pay raise. but he may be a better hire for the rams than fischer. he could right sam bradford’s ship if anyone in the league can.

but losing chud will be bad for carolina. hopefully owners ask him the tough questions about why the play-calling got stale in the second halves all year and carolina couldn’t close out games when they had the lead in almost all of them-some by double digits-ie: nola, gb, detroit, atl. hopefully, he will need to prove himself with another year before getting the big gig.

Dude, stop with the Tebow posts moron. We know you love him

He did a pretty good job for his first year as OC… But just like Coach Rivera, they had some rookie mistakes calling plays and managing some games.

Having led in 15 of 16 games but still coming out with a 6-10 record is rough.

But Chud finally began to use what John Fox would never allow: Deangelo Williams AND Jonathan Stewart on the field at the same time; to go along with Newton’s ability to throw or run, he made the Panthers offense one of the most exciting to watch in the league… First trio to rush for 700+ in league history and still have the QB pass for 4000!?!?

Obviously, I hope he stays in Charlotte. I can only imagine what he will have in store for that offense with an entire off-season to work with.

Torn on this one…Want him to stay with Panthers and see what can happen next year. From a fantasy standpoint, with him in St Louis and they can pick up Blackmon, Bradford can stay healthy and they can upgrade the Oline, would be fun to see what Chud could do with their offense. I think it would be a few years before you could really see a return though.

  24. rosloe62 says: Jan 11, 2012 2:22 PM

I think Rob Chudzinski may be a better fit for the Rams than Fisher. What Chud did in Carolina would be simular to what he could do in St. Louis. If the Rams add Blackman, I think Bradford gets back on track, and the Rams start going in the right direction.

Did anyone see the offense he ran in Cleveland?

He was a joke in this city much like the city itself but, no hiding it from this guy..

He should send Newton half his next few checks
