Getty ImagesWith five turnovers from the Saints (two interceptions, three fumbles), the 49ers arguably should be blowing out the visiting team.
Instead, the Niners lead by only six points.
The latest miscue, a fumble on a punt return by Darren Sproles, gave the Niners the ball deep in the Saints’ end of the field. But the San Fran offense, thanks to the third drop by Michael Crabtree, couldn’t generate a first down.
Instead, David Akers banged home a 41-yard field goal.
It’s 20-14, with more than 25 minutes to play.

This Niners team reminds me of the Steelers teams from a few years ago. Great defense with an offense that can’t score.
So you guys are just going to ignore the Crabtree touchdown which came 3 plays after the first INT by the 49ers D.
Good decision, the way Crabtree is playing he probably doesn’t deserve the recognition…
If I were a 49er’s fan, I would be changing my soiled undies right about now.
I still remember the Pats-Indy AFCC game, where the Pats were up a ton. I can honestly say that when the Pats had that 21-6 lead, I was not remotely comfortable because of what the opposing QB was capable of.
Brees is similarly capable, so no chicken counting yet.
Defense is great, it’s nice to have, but in today’s NFL, either you have a great QB or you don’t.
Goes to show how good the saints are that they are still in this game with 5 turnovers. That’s unheard of in the NFL.
Bring whoever to Green Bay!!! Go Pack Go!
Niners secondary playing out of their mind….

Credit the 9ers suspect offense for that. Any other team in the NFC would be capitalizing so much more.
49ers offense looks desperate with all these illegal pick routes. They need to get back to running the ball. Alex smith is not going to carry this offense.

I think thats a lot more indicative of the 49ers offense than anything the saints are doing
this 49ers offense( or lack of) is pathetic.
im pulling for the 49ers and all this game, but they gotta be able to finish the saints off. its pathetic how they cant muster a long sustained scoring drive since the 1st half.
Smith can’t find a receiver and we can’t run the ball. At the moment there’s only one outcome unless Smith and the offensive line makes some plays. Defense can’t do it all.
Justin Smith – the original #beastmode!!!!!!
How have the Saints not been called for holding?!!! Bushrod is routinely tackling the Smith boys.
First of all, I am a big fan of FOX, CBS, NBC, ESPN coverage of NFL Football…………….but could someone tell Moose and Goose that sometimes a play is the result of a breakdown or an error from a player or players. Every play, a player is given accolades. It’s not always the result of the player who makes a tackle/sack/catch/run, it could be the error of someone on the other side of the ball………………….wow
Tim Tebow is warming up. Get ready.
If the 49ers win this, the offense should definitely pick up the defenses’ tab for the lobster, prime rib, and lap dances tonight.
I’m loving the overall silence from the Saints fans. Can’t contribute anything when they’re not celebrating wins or broken records.

That Niners defense is relentless…they arent allowing Brees to step up into the pocket.
Saints fans are idiots regardless of what happens here, blah blah 38 points, dominate offense. Who dat? Dat’s the Niners, who the eff are you the Aints?
Niners about to bounce these guys out.
under 5;00 minutes now
One intense game. Wow.
OK, lets see what Alex Smith’s got! 24-23, Saints
What a play, Vernon Davis! Yeah, Alex Smith wants this!
lets see if its a fantastic finish by Brees, appears as if Niners will score…in FG range
Touchdown Alex Smith!!!!!
they’ll have to go for 2 on the conversion
Could Niners be headed to NFC Championship!!
Wow, nice drive by the Niners, but Harbaugh looks like he’s ready to kill Smith for that audible on the 2 pt conversion.
This Saint team
is unbelievable. Crowd in stunned silence.
Lets see if Alex Smith has got one more drive in him.
Niners in FG range with 47 seconds left!
what a game!
WOW Touchdown 49ers Alex Smith, Clutch?
Ok 49er offense, you actually DON’T have to pick up any tabs now.
Game, Blouses.
This is what the NFL has become. Pitch and catch. 4 easy back-to-back TD drives to end the game. No defensive play at all. Yawn.
Where you at Saints?
Wow…Peter King wrong once again
Saints have a better chance beating the Pack
Wow. That was a great game!
If the Giants win tomorrow…next weeks NFC Championship is gonna be awesome
Awesome game!
SCOREBOARD ! Eat crow Aints fans ! We had no chance huh ? WE DAT GO 9ERS !!!!!!
Reading some of these posts…. There’s a reason fans are fans, and should be completely ignored. So Alex Smith can’t get it done huh??? I wonder how many idiot fans were yelling for the backup during the game during that 3rd quarter?
