The Jets should have never started him so soon. They were trying to make a big splash with their #5 pick. He was 21 years old when he became the starter for a pro football team. IMO he hasn't matured on many levels yet. That's not to say he will be a bust, but he definitely needed to be humbled/ grounded in order for his head/ego to restart at square one. So maybe he needed a bad season, at this stage, to work harder.

Green Bay players have two attributes that enable Packer coaches to be more effective: humility and work ethic. The team drafts for that foundation and develops from there.

There's nothing more gratifying for a GBay fan to see than a young talent gradually advance through the depth chart to the playing field. That feels terrific.

I noticed undrafted rookie Vic So'oto in the pre-season exhibition game with KCity and have been rooting for him since. He's started to get some playing time just recently. My hunch: Vic's humility and hard work is going to end up in a couple big play surprises against Green Bay's next three opponents. Then he'll be heads-down studying and training all off season and come back as a star next year.

@themonster49: McCarthy does that with his quarterbacks because his quarterbacks are winners and he needs to make sure that they don't get too full of themselves and under-perform.

As for everyone talking the trash about Sparano not being able to coach up Sanchez because "look at Chad Henne", I have this for you....

Chad Henne in '09-'11:
33 games played
639 Completions
1053 Attempts
59.7 Completion percentage
7047 Yards
2349 Yards per season
6.95 Average per attempt
31 Touchdowns
37 Interceptions
3 Fumbles
67 Yards longest completion
76.5 Quarterback rating

Mark Sanchez in '09-'11:
47 Games Played
782 Completions
1414 Attempts
55.3 Completion percentage
9209 Yards
3070 Yards per season
6.51 Average per attempt
55 Touchdowns
51 Interceptions
17 Fumbles
74 Yards longest completion
73.2 Quarterback rating

So, in 14 more games played, Sanchez has thrown for 14 more interceptions than Henne, and fumbled 14 more times than Henne. I know Henne started playing a year before Sanchez, but he only saw time for mop-up duty in a blowout loss to the Cardinals and didn't really do much of anything. And also remember that he missed more than half of this season, so some of his overall numbers are lower. But still, looking at the lack of talent that Chad Henne has had around him over the last three years compared to what Sanchez has had, and seeing that Henne has had the better overall career numbers, I would much rather have Sparano coaching Henne with those tight ends, receivers, and running backs In New York than Ryan coaching Sanchez.

You people crack me up. Kid’s been to 2 AFC Championship games and y’all talk about him like he’s Kyle Boller or something.
------------------------------------------------
Rex Grossman and Jake Delhome both made it to Superbowls, Trent Dilfer won a Super bowl....what's your point? You can be a sub par quarterback on a good team that wins.

Perhaps if the Jets had better play at quarterback they would have played in 2 Superbowls instead of merely making it to two AFC title games. They certainly had a strong enough running game and championship calibar defense during those seasons.

Pete Carroll said publicly that he didn’t think Sanchez should have declared for the draft because he didn’t think Sanchez was ready for the NFL after just one season starting for USC. He was right.
--------------------------------------
Didn't Matt Leinart stay all 4 seasons and started 3 of those seasons at USC? How much did that prepare him for the NFL? Sanchez made the right decision for him at the time. How about John David Booty? In fact Sanchez was at USC for 4 years and got more playing time than Matt Cassell (Who stayed all 4 years but never played because he sat behind Carson Palmer and Leinart). Yet Matt Cassell despite not starting or playing much has had a better career so far than Matt Leinart and a statistically better career than Sanchez.

What he said implies that Sanchez just needed more time, so he's wrong yet again.

Why anybody listens to what Carroll says anymore, or even respects that douche, is beyond me.

Sparano doesnt seem like the coddling type. During that HBO special it looked to me like Sanchez was babied a bit. He was always joking around and didnt seem to have any intensity. When I saw him on the bench in that last Miami game he just didnt seem to be to broken up about his poor play costing his team a playoff shot.

---------------------------------------
in the shade. looked like he was waiting for somebody to bring him am umbrella drink. something has definitely been wrong there. in the beginning, i remember thinking when you saw him on the sideline after a bad play he would be hanging out by himself. any other qb would've been getting 'coached up'. someone had to be there to help him learn from a mistake.
seems like a lot of negatives here and elsewhere on sparano (but EVERYTHING is negative here). hopefully the combinations will be better with sparano having better support. what about qb coach cavanaugh? shouldn't he be gone? if anyone goes, shouldn't he part of that?
