I disagree. For one Miami will likely lose Mike Nolan. The other thing is that just because someone was a OC or a DC it will translate to the team he becomes a HC for. Dungy was a DC and Indy was always know for their offense, Lovie Smith was an OC and the Bears are better know for their Defense.

***

Where was Lovie Smith ever connected to the offense?

Didn’t Dungy have someone named Manning?

Lovie Smith was the OC for the Rams back when they were "the greatest show on earth" and as for Dungy, that is exactly my point. Dungy was a DC yet the Colts defense was never really top notch. Anyone that knows the Colts knows that that defense thrived when the Colts were ahead and the other team was placed in predictable situations. So if Miami should hire an OC there is nothing that says he is going to help Miami's offense get better. It is like how you pointed out with Manning that it is where the talent is. Miami should hire the best coach available.

Yes, Zimmer and Ireland were in Dallas at some point together, but Zimmer was there before Parcells and was successful DC. He then adapted to 3-4 b/c that's what Parcells wanted, and he made it work.

Zimmer appears to be a coach with self made credentials, and if he were to get the job in Miami, he would have earned it on what he has done in this league, not who he knows.

Where I believe the Ireland connection helps is that each man would know what they are getting themselves into with the hire. Ireland knows what Zimmer is like in the locker room and how he motivates players, and Zimmer knows what Ireland likes in players and what type of players he drafts. What we don't know is whether Ireland prefers to draft 3-4 talent, or he just did that b/c that's what his mentor Parcells wanted.

All this preference for offensive background for the next coach is overrated IMO.

Doesn’t it matter as much, if not more who the OC is? A good HC manages the whole game and delegates coordinating and play calling to his coordinators. I also think it will matter who they get as the QB coach since Matt Moore has shown enough to get the start in 2012, barring signing Flynn or some other FA QB. The QB coach will also be responsible to helping whatever QB is drafted (their better be one).

I only know what I’ve read, but Zimmer seems like a solid choice. Maybe not sexy, but Mike McCarthy and Mike Tomlin were not sexy picks either.

Why have the Phins not been trying to retain Nolan?

I’ll take Zimmer as the coach for MYami Dolphins, I know everyone wants the offensive genius from GB. But with his recent tragedy, will he even have the desire to coach, or will he take a head coaching job to “Keep his mind off of things”.

—————————————-

Well….Dungy won a Super Bowl 2 years after his son killed himself so…..maybe that’s not a great argument against the guy.

Dungy also had Manning at QB, elite WR's, and was playing against Rex Grossman. All much favorable compared to what Miami has going for itself. Besides, as a parent I think it would a bit easier to come to terms with a suicide as oppose to a murder of a child. With the killer or killers still at large without any convictions.

Zimmer, who was associated with Parcells, is another boring 3 yards and a cloud of boredom coach.

Furthermore, at 55 he is too old.

Dolphins cannot get out of the quicksand!

I’ll take Zimmer as the coach for MYami Dolphins, I know everyone wants the offensive genius from GB. But with his recent tragedy, will he even have the desire to coach, or will he take a head coaching job to “Keep his mind off of things”.

Well....Dungy won a Super Bowl 2 years after his son killed himself so.....maybe that's not a great argument against the guy.

Dolphins4

Lowly bengals? Just what have the fish done since Marino left? I'll answer it NOTHING. When your team goes to the playoffs with a QB other than Marino then you can actually post on here again.... IDIOT!!!!!

I think Mike Zimmer would be a great head coach for us! But Miami would have to get a good OC like Todd Haley or Hue Jackson.. I would prefer Haley... But even tho Zimmer is a defensive coach I would still bring in a guy like Spags or Del Rio or even keep Nolan to help steer the D... But I will still miss coach Sparano I think he should still be our coach and the players played hard for him and loved him! Ireland did him wrong..

Good guy but Miami needs an offensive minded coach…as long as they keep Nolan. Or, hire Bowles and keep the continuity

I disagree. For one Miami will likely lose Mike Nolan. The other thing is that just because someone was a OC or a DC it will translate to the team he becomes a HC for. Dungy was a DC and Indy was always know for their offense, Lovie Smith was an OC and the Bears are better know for their Defense.

Would love to have him as our HC. I'm sure he'll be able to put a quality staff together. If he can get an offensive coordinator like Todd Haley or Hue Jackson then we're set. Now all we need is a Quarterback!
