Dez Bryant “detained” by police in Miami after fight

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant pulls in a pass from quarterback Tony Romo for a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reuters

After making it through the 2011 football season without any (further) off-field issues or incidents, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant has taken his talent for finding trouble to South Beach.

According to WFAA-TV, Bryant was detained by police after a Sunday night fight at a Miami nightclub.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Bryant was not arrested or charged.

And in fairness to Bryant, he’s never been arrested.  His off-field issues have related more to eligibility issues at Oklahoma State, allegations of unpaid debts, and a situation in which he had been banned from a Dallas-area mall.

How does one get banned from the mall. This guy can’t act better than teenagers who take over the mall.

Bryant is going to go down as the biggest waste of talent ever

He is off season entertainment. NFL Network should build a game show “Dez Bryant: Jail=The Price is Right!” with Primetime as the host. Maybe Rerun or Shirley from Whats Happening as the sidekick.

  29. blackqbwhiterb says: Jan 16, 2012 3:47 PM

Awesome…..if you had a contract like that could you stay outta trouble until you’re about 35?? Or would you end up with Dez Bryant and/or Ben Rothlisberger!??

  30. wawa33 says: Jan 16, 2012 3:48 PM

Was he at the mall? Were his pants sagging to his ankles? Did Jeff Ireland ask about his mom while he was in Miami?

  37. wcdunkenfield says: Jan 16, 2012 3:52 PM

Now the PFT arrest counter has to be reset. What a shame. It was up to 17 days since the last arrest.

BTW, does that counter measure ALL of the NFL, or just the Cowboys?

    LOL…

  38. djdvd says: Jan 16, 2012 3:54 PM

I love the knuckleheads that come in and act as if Dallas has been on a crime spree. Dez Bryant is an idiot…undeniable. But, the most recent Cowboy there is Kevin Ogletree for OUTSTANDING PARKING TICKETS.

HOLY CRAP! Better lock up your kids everyone, Mr. Parking Ticket is rolling into the neighborhood! Better be careful, or he’ll park at a meter and not put any change in it!

You’ve got scumbags all over the league getting DUI’s, domestic Abuse charges, pulling guns on people, shooting themselves at night clubs, resisting arrest, eluding police, murdering dogs, raping college girls, drug charges, stalking, assault, sex sing operations, battery, theft…

But no, it’s those Criminal Cowboys that are clogging up the turd watch.

Do any of you people know how to read?

  44. yevrag3535 says: Jan 16, 2012 4:17 PM

Another Dallas dirtbag plain and simple. It really must be that #88.

  45. rwhited2 says: Jan 16, 2012 4:18 PM

You know who else reporters used to say had never been arrested? Terrell Owens. How’d that turn out for Dallas????? (from a lifelong Cowboy fan)

Good thing Jerry didn’t let him get away in the draft He sure has a wonderful eye for quality individuals to represent the dallas cowboys. Awesome GM skills there Jerry.

Looks like a lot of people have pea-sized brains on here as well. If you say reset the arrest meter please re-read the story. He wasn’t arrested, or if he was arrested it has yet to be reported.

    Demariyus Thomas > Dezperado

DT was drafted before Bryant and now we see why.

On field production could b a wash as DT is now healthy for the first time in two seasons. Stiff arming his way to record setting playoff TD’s.

I also hear DT pays his bills.

  56. starfan79 says: Jan 16, 2012 5:23 PM

He was at a club where people got in a fight and was detained…. The cops probably wanted an autograph. The writer of this article implies Dez has off field issues, financial problems plague alot of NFL players so what’s the problem?

  57. bsizemore68 says: Jan 16, 2012 5:24 PM

Where are the Dolphin fans who jump on Jeff Ireland for checking out this dude, checking out who he hangs with, I for one am glad they didn’t draft him, way to much money for a locker room cancer. Bill

  58. fissels says: Jan 16, 2012 5:55 PM

Seems like everybody’s jumping to conclusions here. He wasn’t arrested or charged. Lets wait until all the facts come out before labeling Bryant

  59. clu1perceiver says: Jan 16, 2012 6:33 PM

    Send Dez to Camp Tebow!

  60. worldwidebleater says: Jan 16, 2012 6:36 PM

  61. beauregard says: Jan 16, 2012 6:53 PM

Mock and bash Tebow all you want, but you’ll never see him get arrested in a bar.
The NFL needs more with Tebow values.

Nothing good comes out of football players going to packed nightclubs. Fights happen there all the time and these guys are a magnet for attention as it is. Not to mention all the DWI garbage we see from them if they can manage to make it out without brawling.

The smart guys are the guys like Tom Brady and Derek Jeter. Aaron Rodgers is single I think and you never hear of him at a nightclub. They have private parties at their huge houses, hang out with hot women, and theres never any drama. They dont deal with drunk strangers looking to pester a celebrity. They dont have to deal with a 30 deep entourage where one knucklehead hanging out with them ruins the whole night. they keep it low key. Some of these guys dont get it

  63. wcdunkenfield says: Jan 16, 2012 9:29 PM

PUH-leeze, spare me the “he wasn’t arrested” crap. How are you detained by the police and not arrested?
If you are not arrested, you are free to go. They can’t “detain” you at all. You have rights.

He was “not arrested” in name only. He told them who he was, and they chose not to arrest him because he was a NFL player.

If you or I were “detained”, we’d have been arrested.

As a Cowboys fan all I can do is *facepalm* all he needs now is a reality TV show to follow him around all the time! But at the same time DJax was spotted down there as well at a strip club so maybe they were fighting over who’s the better diva
