Gregg Williams agrees to join Rams staff

Gregg Williams was a big part of the Saints’ only world championship, but his time in New Orleans is up.

Williams has agreed to become the Rams defensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. WWL in New Orleans also has the news.

The move was able to be made so quickly because Williams’ contract was up in New Orleans. Rams coach Jeff Fisher and Williams are known to be best friends in the coaching business. The timing worked out well because the Saints may have been ready for a change anyhow.

Williams’ defense played great for 14 possessions on Saturday against San Francisco, but fell apart late against the 49ers. The reality is that his defenses got worse during his tenure in New Orleans.

The Saints have struggled to created turnovers or get pressure on the passer the last two years. New Orleans is reportedly interested in Steve Spagnuolo and Mike Nolan to replace Williams.

Saints fans probably aren’t thrilled with Williams at the moment, but change seems to be for the best in this case.

You’ll always have Ft. Lauderdale.
