Roughrider says he’s Indy bound

Argonauts' Lemon runs the ball past Roughriders' Freeman during their CFL football game in Toronto Reuters

The Colts ultimately didn’t dip into the CFL to hire a General Manager.  But their new G.M., Ryan Grigson, apparently gone north of the border for his first acquisition.

Via multiple reports, Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jerrell Freeman has joined the Colts.

It’s not yet official.  Freeman has announced the move on his Twitter page, but neither the Colts nor the RoughRidgers have made it official.

Freeman was the team’s only all-star in 2011.

Wasn’t that the same club from which the Chicago Bears stole heralded wideout Andy Fantuz before he was unceremoniously cut before the season even began?

He (Ryan Grigson) did play in the CFL.

Oh snap, I thought his last name was Roughrider. Bum deal

  4. roamingabriel says: Jan 17, 2012 1:35 PM

    Did Caldwell approve that move?

  5. jimmymcnultysbottleofjameson says: Jan 17, 2012 1:37 PM

Hiring Ryan Grigson was only good for CFL players, nothing else.

Those of us who watch the CFL knew that Fantuz would struggle in the NFL. In the CFL, with the extra receiver, unlimited motion and the big field, Fantuz is an ideal slotback. In the world of the NFL, though, he is a “tweener” – too slow to be an NFL wide receiver, too small to be an NFL tight end. There are a lot of rush ends in the CFL who fall into that same category – great pass rushers in our pass happy league, but they would get eaten up trying to stop the run in the NFL.

Jerrell Freeman, though, is a heck of a player, and definitely has a chance to make an impact. Anyone who watched Cam Wake with the Dolphins knows that the CFL does find the occasional diamond in the rough that the NFL might have missed the first time around…

Very few players from the Crap Football League make it in the NFL. The CFL isn’t good enough to even be a minor league system of the NFL. HAs anyone every gone to Saskatchewan? Don’t! You could fall asleep at the wheel for 2 hours wake-up and find you are still on the road, and you wouldn’t have missed much with the nap. In Saskatchewan you can watch your dog runaway for 2 days. If you ever do to Saskatchewan don’t bring any female family members, after staying in Saskatchewan for a few day you will start to feel an unnatural attraction to them. Stay away from Saskatchewan. Think of the worst trailer park in the South, add cold, take away everything there is to do, kill a few brain cells, and you will have Saskatchewan.

    What a great team name.

  9. southpaw2k says: Jan 17, 2012 1:55 PM

Funny, I always thought the name Texans was a terrible name for a football team. Given the team’s logo, I thought the name Roughriders would’ve been much better.

That pretty much nails the Superbowl for them.

Wait, why is this newsworthy? Sorry, just trying to figure it out…is this guy someone special up there with special talents? This is less worthy than the 9ers elevating Colin Jones from the practice squad. Actually, given how did on ST against the Saints, the Jones addition deserved a post.

Seriously though, why is this a story? Oh, he was a CFL al star…i get it now. Wish the dude the best of luck in the NFL.

I thought rosters were locked untill after the superbowl?

  14. bleedgreen11 says: Jan 17, 2012 2:34 PM

I like how you call the guy “roughrider” for page hits. real classy.

let me ask, if this was a player from the flapping pidgeon wings would “flapping pidgeon wing” be your title? no.

also, proofread before you post, cmon man.

rudegger……you’re a jackass. Where are you from? Let me guess….Toronto? Have you been to Saskatchewan? I’ve spent significant time in both Sask and Wisconsin. Very similar places. So you must have a similar opinion about the Packers (community owned just like Roughriders) and people from Wisconsin as well. Do you ever see people in these comment sections arguing that the CFL is as good as NFL? Anyone with half a brain knows the talent level is far superior in the NFL. But more than anything, it’s two very different styles of game. So instead of wasting time making disparaging remarks about geographical regions you likely know nothing about, try to write something at least bordering on intelligent……if you can.

I would’ve thought you were describing Baltimore except for the wide open spaces you include in the description.

roughrider’s lost their only all-star player? DMX is pissed.

  18. gambleonsports says: Jan 17, 2012 2:52 PM

    @ rudegger

The CFL couldn’t be a minor league system considering the rules are different, genius. And Cam Wake has done pretty well for himself. Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon, Mervyn Fernandez and Joe Theismann are among other notable players that made the transition between leagues successfully.

As for your comments on Saskatchewan, I’ll just smile and continue to enjoy living in a place that was virtually unaffected by the recent recession and has one of the lowest unemployment rates in North America. I’ll also continue to enjoy my free health care, superior education system, and my 20 minute commute to work in a city consisting of 220,000 other people that likely couldn’t care less about what you think of them.

One could definitely say that about the overrated New England region. Pretending that the recent (but soon to be gone) pro sports success changes that only shows how stupid those in that region really are.
