Bernard Pollard not happy to talk about “pretty boy” Brady

T. Brady B. Pollard AP

Bernard Pollard has started 72 games in his NFL career. But to many people, he’s just the dude that hit Tom Brady in 2008, causing a torn ACL.

Now that he’s facing Brady as a member of the Ravens, Pollard is getting asked about the play.

“It just so happened to be Tom Brady and everybody made a big deal about it,” Pollard said via the Baltimore Sun.

It’s safe to say he didn’t appreciate the line of questioning about whether he will always be tied to Brady.

“That’s the pretty boy. That’s the man of the NFL. That’s Mr. Do-It-All,” Pollard said. “So everybody is going to hold that against me but I don’t care. I don’t play for men. I don’t play for no woman.

“I play because I’m given the gift to play this game. And in this sport, you can’t say, ‘Go out there and hit somebody full speed with equipment and everything else on,’ and say, ‘Be careful.’”

Pollard is a big-time hitter that can be victimized when he’s in coverage. Brady certainly knows that. Perhaps Brady and Pollard will be tied historically even more after Sunday.

Anyone else think it’s awkward that every time Bernard Pollard mentions Brady he calls him “pretty”?

  3. tyler2585 says: Jan 19, 2012 4:37 PM

Didn’t he tear Welker’s ACL, too?

  4. canadianvikingfaniii says: Jan 19, 2012 4:37 PM

Wasn’t he the one who forced Wes Welker to try and juke him
and Wes tore his acl slipping? Scary bad vibes coming from him.

Pollard hits people very hard. This might explain his lacking of braincells.

  9. ProDolphinsTalk says: Jan 19, 2012 4:40 PM

  11. pastabelly says: Jan 19, 2012 4:42 PM

Nobody holds that hit against Pollard. It’s part of the game. As a Patriots fan, I am much more concerned with Suggs than I am with frigging Bernard Pollard.

  12. homelanddefense says: Jan 19, 2012 4:45 PM

someone please tell the Ravens that it is possible to talk about an opponent without calling names. How are they going to explain it if they actually lose to this “pretty team” led by a “pretty boy”?

He looked pretty tough when he audibled to two consecutive QB sneaks on the goal line to beat them last year didnt he?

They keep saying they have “respect” for Brady. But take every chance to crack on him. They seem to care an awful lot about his personal life, his hair, Uggs Boots, etc. Who looks like a woman more…teh dude with the supermodel or the guys commenting on what another guy does with his hair and clothing endorsements?

Just shut up and play the game.

  13. fanisy says: Jan 19, 2012 4:46 PM

He better hope he’s not out on the field long. Brady and Welker might want to show him just how much they appreciate him.

Guy’s a good run stopper, but not so good in coverage. He’s gonna get smoked.

  17. jmagnet28 says: Jan 19, 2012 4:49 PM

Pollards right. You’d think he was John Dillinger the way the media portrayed that hit.

Stuff happens in the NFL. Period. If you don’t like the idea of being hurt than don’t play.

    Pollards just doing his job.

  18. barryblogs says: Jan 19, 2012 4:49 PM

  19. noquickreactionshere says: Jan 19, 2012 4:52 PM

Bernard Pollard… or as I like to call him “The Nard Dog” is a beast. When he lays his shoulder down and puts a hit on Gronkowski I fear for everyone in that stadium. It will be like watching two super tankers collide.

  20. CKL says: Jan 19, 2012 4:53 PM

Yes he’s the one who was the closest player to WW that day too, though as you said WW got his foot caught and tore it without contact form another player. We’re definitely not looking forward to seeing Pollard again!
Maybe it’s just because the guy is sick of questions about this by now but at the time the TB thing happened he definitely made sure he said how he didn’t mean for it to happen. Now he sounds like “Bitter, party of 1″.

Why are the Ravens so fascinated with the appearances of the opposing men? Maybe they should leave town and relocate in West Hollywood. The NFL would be happy to have a team in LA and the Ravens could “express” themselves in a community that understands their obsessions. Hey, it wouldn’t be the first team to bolt Baltimore.

  30. beerbaron says: Jan 19, 2012 5:17 PM

Brady might be pretty, but he’s probably the toughest QB in the league. In the regular season Denver game Elvis Dumervil hit him so hard he went airborne, and Brady was back on his feet before Dumervil!

Contrast that with Aaron Rodgers laying on his back holding his hands out for someone to help him up in the fourth quarter of last week’s game.

You dove at a guy’s knees, you scumbag. Hate Brady for his image all you want, but he has a career just like you and you dove at his knees. This is not the same Bernard Pollard that met the press after the incident. That Pollard was apologetic and tried to convince the world that he was a standup guy and never meant to jeopardize anyone’s career. I’m glad you’ve finally come out as the apathetic scumbag we’ve been calling you ever since.

Such a stark contrast to responses to the same exact question.

Brady’s response was he has no ill-feelings towards the guy, people get hit in football, he didn’t think the play was dirty and you have to be prepared and accept the fact that you could get hit hard, and often in football.

Pollard’s response, childish name-calling, and a general temper tantrum.

“I don’t play for men. I don’t play for no woman.”

Who do you play for? Dogs? Cats? Horses? Birds? Not having the respect to even refer to your own teammates as men, that’s….unnecessary.

Agree 100%. Gronk has to be seen to be believed. Some of these fools see him in highlights against other teams and STILL don’t get it.
When Gronk (and Hernandez and crew) are destroying the Ravens secondary on Sunday, you’ll be wondering ‘how could this happen?’

I’m hoping the Ravens win just so Ray can ride off into the sunset. If I see that gay ass pregame dance again ill vomit. As for Brady, can’t really hate the dude for marrying a chick with more cash than him and all the endorsements. Pollard is linebacker fronting as a safety so I assume Gronk and Hernandez will abuse his ass less he gets some help. If he and Gronk collide on the field they’ll be a crater half a mile deep..

    First, how’s the job search.

Second, there are no Scott Zolak jerseys in NE because none exist because you don’t make jerseys for sale of backup QBs who started exactly 7 games in their career. Idiot.

  91. bcgreg says: Jan 19, 2012 11:50 PM

    @ skleech22

You need to get your facts straight before you start slingin’ garbage.

First, the Tuck Rule is a legitimate rule. It wasn’t made up on the spot by the referees on that play. According to Walt Coleman, the referee, he said in an interview that he knew the second he saw the replay that he had to reverse the on firld call because of the Tuck Rule. The head of officiating at the time also said that the rule was applied correctly in the Pats game and that the rule was applied a handful of times during the 2001 season. Hey, I thought it was a fumble. I hate the rule, but it is a rule nonetheless. Don’t hate the playa. Hate the game!

Second, the Pats did not film any walkthrough or practices. The reporter who reported this retracted his story and apologized to the team. The league looked into the allegations and found no evidence that any filming of these events occurred. It’s not the Pats fault that the haters’ star witness Matt Walsh corroborated the fact that no filming of the such occurred.

Third, the Pats did not draft Hugh Millen. He was a 3rd round pick of the Rams in 1986 and didn’t join the Pats until 1991. Hart Lee Dykes was a good pick whose career was cut short by 2 devastating knee injuries (In 18 games, he had 83 catches for 1344 yards and 7 TDs. That’s pretty damn good. He was an immature headcase, but a damn fine WR.).

Just get your friggin facts straight.

Also, Ravens don’t typically have two bad games in a row, haven’t all season. Luckily they pulled out a win in that bad game play. Plus the last three games against the Pats were all close. This is gonna be a GREAT game. Gooo Ravens!

You should hope your team is not as arrogant as it’s fans. 42-7? etc… No wonder when teams beat your overrated ___ in Gillette they do victory laps and get showered. The Baltimore fan-base here for the most part has much respect for your team and knows it will be an uphill battle. We know about your trophies from last decade….But if R2 rains down like last time, and BSHU gets loose, you never know.

Just reading the scads of crybaby Pats fan posts here only confirms that the New England sports fan base is the wussiest fan base in all of sport. Must be all those years, nearly a century now, that the Yankees made your local baseball team look like the fools that they have always been. 86 years between WS titles, coupled with a 40+ year drought for the Pats, a 40+ year drought for the Bruins and a 25 year drought for the Celtics, I can see why you New Englanders are the whiniest people on earth when it comes to sports…and why you can never show any real class when it comes to your team being on the winning side of the equation. Sore losers, poor winners…New England fans are just miserable human beings. Always have been and always will be.

Bozos… your football team sucks, so you have to resort to Yankees trash talk. Sad. Funny you mention that 40 year streak of the Big, Bad, Bruins there, bud. I recall the Rangers having a similar streak before you were saved by Messier. I’m guessing since you’re a front-running Yankees wonk, that you’re also rooting for the Rangers, who are destined to be hammered by the B’s in a couple months in the playoffs. It won’t be close.

Also, you know what is a bigger choke than the Pats losing to the Giants? Your Yankees losing to the Sox after being up 3 games to none. Biggest choke of all time, in any American sport. Tails between their legs, Sox dancing in Yankee stadium in Game 7. (I’m giddy just thinking about it.)

Keep looking back 50 years if that’s how far you have to go to make your silly points. I’m pretty happy in the present, win or lose, where Boston teams are doing juuuuuust fine.

Not a Jets or Giants fan so who cares? Not a Rangers or Islanders fans (or Knicks fan) either.

And the biggest choke wasn’t losing a one-week series but a month-long choke by the 2011 Red Sox. Better to have slumped in one week than an entire month. Even worse is the 86-year drought by your loser MLB franchise.

And speaking of “front-running”, New England sports fans have the patent on that. Couldn’t find a Pats fan anywhere pre-2001. Nor a Red Sox fan pre-2004. Nor a Bruins fan pre-1970s. Not even a Celtics fan pre-2007.

Only front-runners ignore the past…mainly because they weren’t fans in the past. They hide from the past because they weren’t a part of it…only jumping on the bandwagon when times got good. New England sports fans are the epitome of this. Can’t wait to see the stadiums/arenas empty once the spiral begins for your teams…in fact, the spiral has already begun for the Celtics and Red Sox. The Pats will soon follow and the Bruins shortly after that. After this happens, you losers will disappear from the Internet as well.

But nothing (nothing) touches the Sox coming back on the Yankees, and you know it.

There have been plenty of fans for all the NE teams in past years. I sat with my grandparents and watched many many Bruins games on channel 38, listened to every Sox game on the radio, etc. The Pats were the only downtrodden of the bunch, and they lifted themselves out of it with great ownership and coaching and players. Obviously you were not in New England during any of these times. The only team you can make any argument against not being properly supported is the Pats, and that (I assume, don’t know) would be before the run in ’85 (before my time.) Quite the contrary, the owners of the Bruins and Sox in particular milked a dedicated fan base for lots of money, rolling out quasi-competent teams just good enough to keep interest (and sell tickets) for most of the 90′s.

To say the Sox, of all teams, or the Bruins aren’t supported in NE is completely off. That’s all they talk about, year-round, win or lose. You must be pretty omni-present to be able to speak of the Bruins fan base before the 70′s. Are you over the age of 50, and were you living in New England at the time? I doubt it.

I’m sorry the Vikings and/or Raiders broke your heart. Maybe they’ll get good owners and coaches some day. Until then, keep hatin’ and the Pats will keep winning.

Pollard is a piece of trash. Hopefully somebody injures him and hopefully it’s something career ending. It’s bad enough that he had that dirty play on Brady (no he didn’t injure Welker, that’s a complete myth, Welker got injured on the crappy Texans’ turf) but he also needs to continue to take shots at the guy? I would laugh if somebody puts him in a wheelchair.
