T.O. announces that he’s heading to the IFL

After Vernon Davis took a page out of the T.O. history book on Saturday against the Saints, we looked into the status of Owens’ IFL deliberations, and we reported that a decision is coming with the next week or so.

It has arrived.

Owens have announced, via a video apparently shot in his house (not to be confused with a press conference in his driveway), that he’s joining the Allen Wranglers of the IFL.

“Uh oh!  It’s official!  It just went down!  I’m headed back to Texas!  That’s right.  IFL, here I come.  Allen, Texas, here I come,” Owens said in a video linked from a Twitter message that says, “The WAIT IS OVER!!  GETCHA POPCORN READY!!”

Owens reportedly will receive compensation in the range of $250,00 to $500,000 from a team whose General Manager, former Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson, has criticized Owens in the past.

The Wranglers begin their season in late February.  Owens tore an ACL during the 2011 offseason, which made him even less attractive as an aging option with a reputation for creating trouble in the locker room.

Owens is sixth on the all-time receiving list, second in receiving yardage with 15,934, and tied for second in touchdowns with Randy Moss at 153.

And apparently I need a proof reader as well before I hit submit. Screwed up my very first line in that comment. But hey, I don’t get paid for this stuff.

  11. notrelated says: Jan 19, 2012 7:34 AM

Go to the IFL website at look at the “Which former IFL player are you most looking forward to watching on NFL Sunday’s this season?” Poll.

    Seriously.. it’s hilarious.

  12. nokoolaidcowboy says: Jan 19, 2012 7:35 AM

Owens HAS to keep playing. Sorry to say he is going to be a train wreck without football in his life.

  13. mannynh says: Jan 19, 2012 7:37 AM

I wish PFT would stop announcing things about retired players that I never liked in the first place. This goes for Favre too.

  14. cuda1234 says: Jan 19, 2012 7:38 AM

TO may be a bigger narcissist than Tebow. Maybe this will slow the deluge of Tebow “news” cranked out by the media.

  15. breastsmoosh says: Jan 19, 2012 7:41 AM

TO is kind of weird for me because I cannot stand him but for some reason I just love watching him play, maybe because I don’t know what whacky thing he is going to do next. Theres just something about a player that has been extremely good and is just straight up whacky

  16. indywilson40 says: Jan 19, 2012 7:44 AM

    Desperado….

  18. tonyt33 says: Jan 19, 2012 7:47 AM

I heard on the radio this morning that TO is also going to be a partial owner of the team. If that is true, then it would make sense that he would be playing…more people will buy tickets to the games if they are going to see TO playing.

    ———————————————–

Couldnt have said it any better myself. It almost hurts to watch.

Whats the over/under on when he declares bankruptcy? 40?

I would say if he is already broke, the money he makes from this venture gets blown before its even made. Sad to watch.

  30. wtfru2 says: Jan 19, 2012 8:09 AM

At least at 250 k he’ll have enough money for the child support of the dozen or so kids he fathered while he was relevant.

    What a tool…..

  31. mempusa says: Jan 19, 2012 8:22 AM

What does IRL stand for…Irrelevant Football League?

  32. mempusa says: Jan 19, 2012 8:23 AM

IFL damnitt! I screwed that one up! LOL

  33. yelix says: Jan 19, 2012 8:23 AM

We’ve got an IFL team here in Wichita. I’ve been to two games, and it’s a ridiculous amount of fun. If his team comes here, I will be first in line.

  34. baron30 says: Jan 19, 2012 8:25 AM

This actually seems like a pretty risk route for TO to take if he actually thinks that he can make it back to the NFL (which i hope that he can) because there are going to be a lot of nobodies and neverwas’ who will be trying to deliver the knockout rock who are hoping for some 15mins of fame.

My guess is that all of the player will be told not to touch TO because he will be the cash cow of this league.

  35. hotep999 says: Jan 19, 2012 8:31 AM

The IFL can’t afford for him to waist food (as pictured above). You’ll actually have to eat the whole bag TO.

  36. corzman69 says: Jan 19, 2012 8:41 AM

Who is this T.O. you speak of ?

  37. gcsuk says: Jan 19, 2012 8:49 AM

What’s the word I’m looking for? Sad? Pathetic? “Giveitupalready”?

  38. vikingdoode says: Jan 19, 2012 9:08 AM

How can you blow all the millions in the years in the NFL?

  39. southpaw2k says: Jan 19, 2012 9:08 AM

This is one of those “If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” stories.

  40. capers8 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:09 AM

I’m actually pretty excited about this. If more NFL has-beens go to the arena leagues it could be pretty entertaining.

  41. Exiled1 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:09 AM

There’s a team in the IFL called the “Omaha Beef”.

    ….awesome….

  42. lolb23 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:10 AM

He’s 37 years old and still playing football. That’s not a fall. That’s sick.

  43. dcfan4life says: Jan 19, 2012 9:15 AM

Seriously what else could TO possibly do when he stops playing football. And he is being paid up to $500K. What choice does he have. I mean the NFL network already looks stupid with Deion and Irvin, maybe they will add TO just to make sure Marriucci finally quits lol.

  44. mousetrap08 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:17 AM

What the hell is the IFL?

  45. bubba703 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:18 AM

When you squander millions that you were paid in the NFL, acting so arrogantly that not one team wants you despite HOF credentials, and end up signing with the IFL to make child support payments, that’s sad. But it’s hard to feel sympathy for someone who shortened his own career with just his mouth.

    Good luck, TO

  46. bigjohnincvg says: Jan 19, 2012 9:26 AM

Why in the HELL was the space wasted to report this? If I wasn’t already logged on to reply to other worthy NFL items I would not of wasted my time to log in to comment.

  47. mrplow3 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:26 AM

So since I never heard of the IFL until now I decided to check out their website.

One of the teams is called the “Omaha Beef”

    AHAHAHAHAHA!

  48. elboriqua176 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:28 AM

Who the hell is TO? lmao

  49. goldrush36 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:29 AM

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Bet you wish you had kept your mouth shut 10 years ago huh? And 8 years ago and 3 years ago and last year…… Damn that’s a lot of bus driving. The off years from running his mouth towards teammates consisted of overdoses and mental breakdowns. Damn what did Garcia do to this guy? Lol

  50. junebug42 says: Jan 19, 2012 9:34 AM

Good Luck T.O!!!!! all you guys hating on him should stop..Dude gotta make a living..if ur on this sight then you in know about his financial problems..yeah he brought them on his self & he’s trying to handle it by himself..DO YOU T.O.!!!!!!

Feel kind of bad for this guy. Gifted athlete for sure but should hang it up. Gotta admire his desire to still want to play and not just be on NFL Network

  59. tunescribe says: Jan 19, 2012 10:47 AM

He’ll be cut before the end of training camp. :)

nokoolaidcowboy says: “…he’ll be a trainwreck without football in his life”. Newsflash slick, he was a trainwreck with football in his life and left the wrecks of SF, Philly and Dallas in his wake, even if only temporarily as was the case with the latter two.

  62. concernedcitizen001 says: Jan 19, 2012 1:21 PM

I feel sorry for the Wranglers QB, who ever he is. Since TO has thrown every NFL QB he played with under the bus, imagine an IFL QB. SMH

  63. andyreidisfat says: Jan 19, 2012 1:33 PM

I know everyone loves to hate on t.o. But to me I feel bad for the guy because he can still play the game and has been black balled from the nfl. Now it is mostly his own fault, no doubt. But I can’t remember any other player who could really help a team to win not even get a look.

If San Fran had to right now I think they would be a much better team and yet because this guy killed himself their he is jot there

  64. voyager6 says: Jan 19, 2012 4:43 PM

Hey, TO: I here Cincy is looking for a #2 WR again!

  65. mel13anie says: Jan 19, 2012 5:45 PM

Hey I dont care for him off the field but I was the first to call this morning and get me some cheap season tickets. TO is still talented even if he is a big ole baby….cant wait for the first game…lets just hope the old timer doesnt get jacked right off the bat and is out for the rest of the season.
