I do not care what none of the negative say! Troy Smith will play in the NFL next season. He is going to gain exposure when Big Ben goes down….He should be the starter in Baltimore. He beat out Joe Flacco (Really Bad) in pre-season. That illness set him back something awful. He is good guy. His arm is incredible, and he is a proven leader. He did good in just about all the games he played in. Yeah, he fumbled a few times. So what….if you look, the games he fumbled, he tried to win the games at the last inute. San Fran of 2010 was NOT the 2011 team we saw. He had no blocking, and still won games. Give him a chance…with a good line and running game, he will be a starter one day. Hell, he may even take Ben’s spot. Nothing is guarantee in the NFL.

It makes sense to me that when you only have backup QB’s you don’t feel you can put in the game that it’s time to shuffle who you have on your roster. Insisting on playing Ben 3 out of the last 4 games of the regular season even though he was injured and playing like crap literally cost them the game.

I don’t understand why they’d keep Leftwich over Dennis Dixon. They need a mobile guy behind that line, and Leftwich makes Peyton Manning look like Baryshnikov.

I love Charlie Batch, but time catches up to every man. And the same may be said of Leftwich. When you’re Byron’s age and unable to play for two seasons due to injury, it might be time to hang it up. Dixon hasn’t been able to learn the playbook or pick up reading defenses. He’s not a viable backup. I hope Smith is the answer because I’d rather spend our draft picks on other areas.

You’re kidding right? Did you actually watch this kid. His record came by way of fluke wins over terrible teams. By fluke I mean a pass the whole world knew was intended for wide open uncovered Vernon Davis travels 15 yds too far and happens to fall in Crabtree’s arms in TRIPLE coverage. Troy’s response. “Yeah I seen them coming up on Vernon quick and I knew Crab would make the play. That was the intention the whole time, it just looked like it was intended for Vernon” Dude What? Same game featured a hail mary toss up about 100 ft high as he was being sacked that miraculously got between 3 defenders down near the goal line. This guy didn’t even deserve to be starting over the bad Alex Smith. Hell I hated Carr but he was given like 2 possessions worth of a chance in SF

A good way to save money: don’t spend a lot on pricey back-up QBs. Troy Smith is someone who isn’t that good, but could win one or two games if necessary. If your QB is going to miss more than one or two games, you probably aren’t going to make the playoffs anyway. Just my opinion.

Also, people should stop saying that the Steelers dynasty is “over.” I’m pretty sure someone says that every year, and yet somehow, they still compete, every year.

Troy was a cancer in the Ravens locker room and despised by his teammates. There is a reason he was out of the league this year. He is nothing but trouble. With pick-ups like this the Ravens will kick the Steelers ass twice again next year.

Gotta love the posts talking about him being a Ravens castoff and the Steelers having no future. Ben has plenty of years left and Troy Smith will be lucky if he isn’t on the practice squad. Obviously by signing a potential 3rd string QB the future is bleak.

Way to mischaracterize the events that led too Smith not getting a starting job in Baltimore.

Also, Steeler fans don’t think Flacco is the worst QB in the world. Outside of Baltimore, I’m pretty sure he’s viewed as what he is — a slightly above average QB who is consistent, can execute well in certain situations, and benefits from the system within which he exists. That said, depending on how Dalton matures, Flacco could potentially be the third best starting QB in the AFC North in another year or two. If you like the thought of that, awesome. Some people might be too harsh on him, but that’s not unique to Steeler fans (I don’t even think you could disagree that Ravens fans themselves can be fairly hot-cold on the guy).

Why would the Ravens need a safety who can’t cover? There’s a reason Polamalu is home watching,and it has alot to do with the hairball allowing Tebow to throw for 316.

1) Troy Smith won the Heisman with the second largest margin of votes in the history of the award.

2) Both his teammates in Baltimore and in SanFran rallied behind him because he is a natural leader and did have a good locker room presence (less in SanFran, but when he got the starts the team supported him)

3) He beat Joe Flacco for the starting job in Baltimore. I know, I was there for training camp and saw it. Unfortunately, a stomach virus and several weeks in the hospital doomed him.

4) 6″ feet is too short? Someone better tell Drew Brees–I dont think he got the memo.

5) Troy is a good QB, not great by NFL standards, but better than some of the other back-ups stinking up the place (Tyler Thigpin, anyone???). Give him a chance.

“bunkmcnulty” must not be much of a Ravens fan. Or he would remember that Smith was the favorite to start Flacco’s rookie season, but he was sick in the hospital with tonsillitis, neck blod clot, lung infection. He lost 20 pounds and missed a month of practice. Since he wasn’t cleared to practice until after the season started, of course he had no shot at winning the job. Even after that, several of his teammates lobbied for him to have a shot at the job and more playing time and teh “Suggs Packages.”

Other than Batch, the Steeler backup QBs have been mediocre at best. What’s with all the castoffs and Dennis Dixon is NOT a starting NFL QB. The man cannot throw an accurate pass. Geez, can’t we get some better quality here — keep Batch, I’ll take him over these other bums.

This is not even news really….Raven fans are the least loyal in all of sports. lol. They love you when you have on the purple, but they hate anyone that leaves the team. Most fan bases have respect for players that gave so much, you will NEVER see that class in Baltimore. Try to find one nice post here or a thank you by a Raven fan to an ex player.

Smith is a below average talent.
