Getty ImagesThe Green Bay Packers aren’t expected to go very far to find a replacement for offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, who left to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
Instead, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, the expectation in Green Bay is that quarterbacks coach Tom Clements will replace Philbin.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, in offering a public congratulatory message to Philbin, suggested that he would prefer to promote a coach currently on the staff to take over for Philbin.
“Your first intent is to look within,” McCarthy said. “That’s where you start. But I don’t want to talk about that now. This is Joe’s moment. He deserves all the attention. You don’t replace people like Joe. I’m going to miss him personally a whole lot, forget as a professional. He’s someone I enjoy being around. He’s a great guy. This is a very good opportunity for him.”
It’s still possible that Clements, who has been identified as a candidate for the Buccaneers coaching vacancy, could leave to become a head coach, too. But if he doesn’t, he’s in line to get a promotion in Green Bay.

If Clements isn’t going anywhere to be a HC it would be the obvious choice, but I’d also hate to lose Edgar Bennett! Bennett is an Up-n-comer, and a Packer!
I would love to see Clements move up. Our front office treats the coaches and players the same when it comes to development. Like Houndog50 says, Edgar Bennett is being groomed for OC one day as well….
Rob Lowe said this is false information. Take that to the bank.
Well great you Packer fans are set with Edgar Bennett so Clements can move on to Miami.
Green Bay is the gold standard of professional sports’ franchises.
C’mon mckenzie! Get on it!
He is also mentioned as candidate for OC in pittsburgh
Could you find a better file photo for Clements, please?
He’s too old, besides doesn’t McCarthy call the plays
If I were to get a promotion to OC in either Miami or Greenbay.. I’d chose greenbay too… statistically he would look prettier come next years coaching searches. Not knocking Miami-but Aaron Rodgers?! Come on – easy choice.
Brad Childress is a much better fit.
JoeBucFan is disappointed if true.
“He’s too old”, love that stuff. I guess only smart people are young(roll eyes). BTW-McCarthy calls the plays talking with the OC in constant communication.
I suspect Aaron Rodgers will have some input on this. He credits Clements with his development.
The Packers also might lose Winston Moss. I hope they lose Dom Capers. How can you have the league’s worst defense and keep the d-coordinator?
he’s not going to pitts….
