Big half for Victor Cruz as Giants take lead in San Francisco

NFC Championship - New York Giants v San Francisco 49ers

Giants receiver Victor Cruz has been the best player on the field in San Francisco this evening, and his team is a half away from the Super Bowl.

Cruz has eight catches for 125 yards at the half, giving the Giants a 10-7 lead over the 49ers. San Francisco’s defense has had one of the great games we’ve come to expect from the 49ers -- other than when Eli Manning is throwing to Cruz.

For the 49ers, most of the offense came on one play, a 73-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith to Vernon Davis on which Davis tiptoed his way down the sideline and into the end zone (where he picked up a penalty for excessive celebration). Take away that pass, and Smith is 1-for-6 for six yards passing.

Heading into the second half this game is wide open. But if the 49ers want to head to the Super Bowl, they need to find a way to stop Cruz.
