In ten years as a head coach and/or talent evaluator Sherman had a +16 winning margin, pretty much supplied by the 2001/2002 seasons which were seasons still mostly impacted by Ron Wolf as GM. Since then, two games below .500, embarrassing playoff washouts, and two bowl losses.

His teams have always been all about offense and the defense can pretty much go screw. But when the rubber meets the road, the offense caves and the defense takes the rap. It was the pattern in Green Bay, then with TAM, and one can only suspect it will continue in Tampa Bay if he gets the chance. His high water mark is as an NFL offensive co-ordinator, which even I think he'd be good at. He was mediocre as a coach, and pretty dismal as a talent evaluator.

In the end, Tampa seems to be a team just like the Bengals - it's more about ROI (return on investment) than making serious strides for championships. Sherman as a serious candidate is about as inspiring as a warm glass of milk.

Mike Sherman set the Green Bay Packers back 10 years.

1. Any NFL Head Coach/GM who trades up to the 3rd round to take a punter should never, ever be able to have either title again.

2. Are you serious! This guy traded up for a punter, up into the 3rd round! I won't even go into 1st round pick, 5'6" DB Ahmad Carroll.

3. I didn't think he would last as long as he did at Texas A&M but not a real tough state to recruit football players in. Look at his last two season, epic failure. My only hope is he would go to some team in the NFC?

Just don't get it when it comes to picking out dead dogs for coaching opportunities? He failed here, and he failed here so why don't we bring him in???

I don't know why everyone is suggesting they need to hurry up. In the 90's the Bucs went through 4 head coache choices and eventually went with their fifth choice: Tony Dungy. He turned the team around. After Dungy was fired they also took a long time to find another head coach and the saga went on for a long time (with everyone getting worried about how long it was taking just like now) and then they shipped some picks and cash off to Oakland for Gruden and won a SuperBowl. Raheem Morris on the other hand? They made that decision relatively quickly. The lesson? Maybe it's not such a bad thing when they take their time. Unless they hire Sherman of course which would be a disaster. MARTY!

The Bucs head an awesome HC in Tony Dungy, then traded 2 first round picks and won a Super Bowl with Jon Gruden. Both got fired. They also had Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstott, Michael Pittman, Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardell, Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Booger McFarland, Derrick Brooks, Hardy Nickerson, John Lynch.

When the Bucs sharted on their best players and coaches of all time, is when nobody cared if there was 31 teams in the NFL.

If the Bucs hire Childress or Sherman they are the worst franchise in the NFL... Well actually they already are, but that would solidify it for sure. The Glazers are so cheap their pockets squeak when they walk! Maybe their best free agent this year won't be the 23rd best punter in the league!!

He couldn’t win a playoff game with a championship caliber roster in Green Bay and couldn’t keep his job at Texas A&M. Now that’s the kind of impressive resume that deserves a second look!
===============

He actually won two playoff games in Green Bay. His winning percentage was higher than "hottest" coach out there this offseason and he got to the playoffs 4 times in 6 years as opposed to 6 times in 17 years for the "hottest" coach out there this season.

Apparently, resumes don't need to be very "impressive" anymore when it comes to NFL head coaches.

Sherman the head coach was always better (at least in Green Bay) than Sherman the GM… I assume it was the same way at A&M when it came to recruiting.

As long as you don’t let him anywhere near the selection process, he’ll field a competitive team.

-------------------------------------

But what if the Bucs front office is handling the selection process?
