Tice will not interview for Raiders job

Mike Tice AP

Nearly a week after the Raiders requested to interview Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice, the Raiders have apparently had a change of heart.

ChicagoBears.com writes that Tice will not interview for Oakland’s head coaching position after all. The Raiders are focusing on narrowing their search at this stage. Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is interviewing for a second time.

I was disappointed I wasn’t able to complete the interview process,” Tice told Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com. “But let me say this: I’m very excited about the opportunity and the new position I have with the Bears. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. And I think there are some great reasons to be in Chicago.”

It would be fun to see Tice get another crack at a head coaching gig, although he was clearly a long shot for the Oakland job. The Bears are expected to add a coach with more passing game experience to their staff to assist Tice in running the offense.

If you’re a Raiders fan, this is like second Christmas

If he got the job it would be a disaster for the Bears, since the Bears no doubt don’t have a backup plan fo OC. So I guess this is good news for the Bears.

This guy is still a jerk. I know everyone wants to be a head coach, but you just accepted the OC job in Chicago – and then you take an HC interview? Show some freaking loyalty, Tice.

I told you guys that Reggie Mckenzie would never hire Mike Tice. The whole reason was to mess with “Da Bears”. Remember who Mckenzie was working for before he took the Raiders gig. The Packers, I would bet he hires Moss. His buddy with the Packers………..

I think Reggie is thinking a defensive man which means Marty Mornhinweg will probably get the job . In all honesty I think this Dennis Allen might be the guy . He’s getting alot of pub around the NFL .

I think McKemzie has his man.Dennis Allen or Moss will be named coach soon.

As a Bears fan i always liked Tice and I think he would be a great OC for the bears. You watch and see what happens this year when Cutler has some protection and receivers to throw too along with a very strong running game. Hell i hope they make him Head Coach after this season

Who else could have come up with the ‘Randy Rules’? Many here have no idea what that is….but he knew where his bread was buttered, and it was Randy Moss!

  12. holyrollersbowling says: Jan 23, 2012 9:40 PM

Not a good fit – Tice likes to scalp Superbowl tix. Unlikely the Raiders are getting there any time soon.

looks like they bailed on him.

by the looks of things he sure likes his bread buttered

I find irony in Raiders fans questioning Mike Tices intelligence. The same people who spend their Vison Cards and food stamps on face paint and darth raider masks wonder how smart a man that makes a million dollars a year to coach a kids game is. Hey, while your at it be sure to shoplift some batteries so you’ll have something to throw at the chiefs or bronco next home game, while you continue the debate

    Was the Randy Ratio fyi.

For those who believe in Mike Tice, refer to his NFL coaching record, Enough said.

  18. greatminnesotasportsmind says: Jan 23, 2012 10:41 PM

Tice sure scalped Super Bowl tickets, not like the Vikings have been their recently.

And its not the Randy Rules, it was the Randy Ratio. It was a percentage of plays Moss had to be involved in.

I am not upset about this at all, but Dennis Allen ? WHO???

  21. rastaraider says: Jan 23, 2012 11:12 PM

Moss, Allen? i like them both it’s the defense wat needs more work.. Defense wins champion ships

  22. raideralex99 says: Jan 23, 2012 11:28 PM

Seriously how long does it take to hire a HC?
What was the point of firing Hue if you have no clue who to hire?

  23. greatminnesotasportsmind says: Jan 24, 2012 1:32 AM

Tice is close to a .500 record for an owner who wouldn’t pay for assistances or coordinators. Tice had to hire a OC from the power school of… Louisville at the minimum salary for a pro coordinator. That OC did good enough to land him a head coaching job in St. Louis. If Tice was able to field a team that lacked depth because Red McCombs was cheap he’d be okay. Go ahead and make fun of him because he is kinda dopey, but at least he won’t shut the fans out like Childress or Belichick.

  24. canadianvikingfaniii says: Jan 24, 2012 1:49 AM

Chicago needs receivers. If Tice gets his way he will bring in Randy Moss and re-enact the Randy Ratio.

  25. tatum064 says: Jan 24, 2012 5:13 AM

Tice was great. The Love Boat fiasco, Onterrio Smith and the “whizzenator” – what great times!!! I think the Raiders would like to move away from the circus like atmosphere, but it would be a hoot! LOL!
