Bernard Pollard hopes the Giants thrash the Patriots

AFC Championship - Baltimore Ravens v New England Patriots Getty Images

Bernard Pollard is not a popular man in New England, and his comments in an interview this week won’t change that.

Pollard, who wrecked Tom Brady’s knee in 2008 and ripped Brady as a pretty boy before Pollard’s Ravens lost to Brady’s Patriots last week, said on KILT in Houston that he’ll be rooting for the Giants in the Super Bowl.

“I really hope the Giants – I just hope they just put a thrashing on the Patriots,” Pollard said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “I really do. To lose to a team like that the way we played. We played a good game.”

Pollard said he sees plenty of reasons to believe that the Giants’ defense will match up well with the Patriots’ passing game.

“You gotta look at the experience of the team,” Pollard said. “You gotta look at, What do the Giants have? They got a front four that is relentless. They got a secondary that is really, really good. They got a linebacking core that has been with them. The dinking and the dunking, man? It’s just not going to happen.”

Pollard also noted that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered an ankle injury when Pollard tackled him on Sunday, and he said to Patriots fans, “If you don’t like it? So what.”

Do you mean the first ballot Hall of Fame dink and dunk man?

  4. kisstherings says: Jan 24, 2012 3:35 PM

Who cares what this idiot thinks?

The Dinking and Dunking isn’t going to happen? lol the Pats no-huddle offense is nothing like the stretch the field 2007 offense. A very motivated Brady will dink and dunk all day on the Giants and they won’t have time to get to Brady, just like Pollard and friends didn’t.

You tell them, Bernard. Pats fans are the biggest crybabies in the NFL.

If I was him I wouldn’t bring up that tackle. Looks like Gronkowski wrecked him and was unfortunate to get his ankle rolled up.

LOL Pats on a bad day better than the Ravens on a good one then.

And Pollard we like the way you and the rest of the Ravens played just fine since it wasn’t good enough to win. Enjoy watching the Super Bowl from the couch in a bitter little cloud of shame that you’re not on the field.

  13. sledgehorn says: Jan 24, 2012 3:43 PM

Don’t forget he was semi-responsible for tearing Wes Welker’s ACL too.

  14. nflovercollegefb says: Jan 24, 2012 3:44 PM

There’s nothing good-natured about this. Pollard comes off as a mean, bitter POS.

I’m a Pats fan and I hope they win for obvious reasons but knowing it will probably ruin Bernard’s day will make it that much sweeter.

Just remember Bernard, you’re nothing more than a JAG, Just Another Guy.

  15. axltcu says: Jan 24, 2012 3:44 PM

Your team got beat. Get over it. If the Ravens were half as good as they think they are, they wouldn’t have lost. He’s just bitter.

  18. gobluemh says: Jan 24, 2012 3:45 PM

Well isn’t that nice. A guy that has been the cause or on the field for major Patriot injuries. He dove at Brady’s knee, on the field for Welker’s knee and tackles Gronk and hurts him. Dirty? Lets see what happens if he ever went over the middle. Or next time when Gronk runs through him. By the way, how many rings does he have?

  19. PFTiswhatitis says: Jan 24, 2012 3:46 PM

Pollard is like Adalius Thomas, looks better than he is when playing next to better players. He is mediocre at best. What a sore loser. Ravens played a good game and still couldn’t pull it off, stop being a whining little girl, loser.

  20. sschmiggles says: Jan 24, 2012 3:46 PM

Enjoy “dinking and dunking” some potato chips on Super Bowl Sunday, Bernard.

  21. kpow55 says: Jan 24, 2012 3:47 PM

“The dinking and the dunking, man? It’s just not going to happen”

So in a backhanded way is he admitting the Giants are better than the Ravens on D?

  22. faulkana says: Jan 24, 2012 3:47 PM

    I bet he wishes that.
Bernard, sit back on your couch with all of your hoodlum teammates and watch.
You couldn’t do it, so you hope that a better team than yours, like the Giants might be able to do it. Kind of sad, kind of funny. Enjoy the game, loser.

    Go PATS!

  23. alan226 says: Jan 24, 2012 3:47 PM

  27. readysethike says: Jan 24, 2012 3:48 PM

  35. beerbaron says: Jan 24, 2012 3:53 PM

You played a good game. The Patriots played one of their worst games of the season, and still beat you.

Pats fans don’t blame you for fluke injuries, Bernie. And if we did, the best revenge is knowing you’ll never win a Super Bowl. Well, that and thinking about our “dink and dunk” offense running it right down your throat.

  36. damnsureis says: Jan 24, 2012 3:54 PM

Hahahaha! Pollard is a little whiny bitch. He’s known around the league for accomplishing nothing other than hurting Tom Brady. And even that happened when he was getting blocked into him. It’s not like he put an extraordinary hit on him. His claim to fame is an accident.

  37. esdawt says: Jan 24, 2012 3:55 PM

I think Pollard scrambled his brain when he speared Brady in the knee. He doesn’t seem that bright.

Raven tears are delicious, like the finest wine ever. They just go down so smooth. Which is amazing since they have such sour grapes…

I really think the Pats are going to come out fired up and play well in this one. To lose to the Giants before being undefeated is one of the most embarrassing choke jobs in the history of football.

Its one of those losses that just kills your whole legacy. Its like what ever the Pats do now, it doesn’t even compare to losing that one game when it all counted.

Thats all people will ever really remember, its kind of sad really, but thats human nature.

  44. alan226 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:02 PM

Way to go Bernard. The Ravens since the Superbowl team of 2000 have made the conference finals twice (INCLUDING this year) and are 0-2. Heck, they completely MISSED the playoffs 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years.

Yeah, your right, the better team lost.

    Bozo…

  45. bostonbornandbred says: Jan 24, 2012 4:02 PM

He wants the pats to lose… Fine. Most of America hates the patriots anyways. We can take it.. But pollard hasn’t won anything in the NFL, Infact most people only know his name because of the hit on Brady.. He has absolutely no business talking…

  46. rc33 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:02 PM

Pollard is just flat-out weird; any media types that met him here in Houston came away with that impression. His play went from being a possibility for a long-term deal at the end of ’09 to “can’t wait to dump him at seasons’ end” status in 2010.
Either way, methinks he’s more likely to take a hostage than any other player in the NFL. That’s notoriety he should be happy about.

  47. wte1 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:03 PM

  51. projuice7 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:08 PM

an actual nfl player realizes that the quick dump offs wont work all day against the giants…..and yet a few fans here still insist that THEY know better, and that the approach will somehow be successful. a healthy boley and a stud-in-the-making jacquain williams arent going to be dinked and dunked all day….learn some football people.

and yeah, webster, ross, phillips, and rolle IS a very good secondary. now that the linebackers have been healthy, theyve been allowed to concentrate on their jobs….and the numbers speak for themselves.

  55. mike83ri says: Jan 24, 2012 4:09 PM

  58. giselleisasucubus says: Jan 24, 2012 4:10 PM

weakafceast, are you high? Like, on angel dust high? “hover at the 500 mark in the super bowl”….dude, this is their 7th super bowl. They have won 3 and they got a shot at a 4th. There’s about 25 teams and their fan bases who would eat their firstborn to have that success. Not too mention they win the division every year and they lost the AFC title in 06. You, sir, are a moron.

  59. wideright91 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:10 PM

  61. wvucolumbus says: Jan 24, 2012 4:11 PM

  62. gronktimusprime says: Jan 24, 2012 4:11 PM

This is a result of a half retard on a good day having a chance to speak even though he is irrelevant. He is a dirty player, although I know he didnt try and hurt Gronk clearly he is a sore loser and thinks anyone cares what he wants or wishes to happen. A true sportsman would want the team that beat them to win so at least they could say they lost to the eventual champs, this guy is worthless. I love how the Pats have become the Yankess of football, all of the hate from you trolls just shows how weak and insecure you are, if you are a Giants fan go ahead and run your mouth, but all these trolls running their mouths need to realize they should probably focus on moving out of their parents house and get a life… Kapow Pats win this one 34-30

    weakafceast:

“As the Patriots hover the .500 mark in the SB, after this one is over, can we stop all the dynasty talk please? The arrogance of chowd fan is amazing.”
    ——————————————————————————

Let’s see, in 10 years as a starter in the NFL (didn’t play rookie year or 2008), Tom Brady has gone to the playoffs 9 times, to the AFC Championship game 6 times, and now to the Super Bowl 5 times (Only Elway has started in 5 Super Bowls besides Brady) with 3, and now possibly 4 Super Bowl wins. But yeah, you’re right, the Patriots dynasty is completely over.

Speaking of the Elway comparisons, they’re both tied for 300 career TD passes. It took Brady 10 years to do it and Elway 16.

Also, I love how you say the Pats are .500 in the Super Bowl and try to hang that on this current dynasty. As if Brady had been playing on the 1985 or 1996 teams that went to the Super Bowl. Fact of the matter is Brady is 3 for 4 and that may be even better after this upcoming one.

  64. giselleisasucubus says: Jan 24, 2012 4:12 PM

btw, you Pats haters are a little demented. What the hell is your problem? Spygate? hahahahha, let it go. They have been ridiculous since then, and that has coincided w/a rebuild. Let it go.

  65. kshellz11 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:12 PM

  66. cliverush says: Jan 24, 2012 4:14 PM

This rat bird was taking cheap shots after the play was over the entire game. If this guy represents the team then do not ever complain again about the calls against you. You reap what you sow. The Ravens are once again HOME for the SB. No amount of crying and complaining will change that. If it could they would be playing in it every year.

  67. mrconnors says: Jan 24, 2012 4:15 PM

I agree, Bernard. The Giants do have a linebacking core that has been with them.

Moron. Yeah, the way you played, and the Patriots still won the game. Imagine if Brady had actually played well.

  68. kellyb9 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:15 PM

@weakafceast – What the Patriots organization has accomplished in the past 10 years is nothing short of exceptional. Lets take the Giants record this year (9-7), the Patriots in the last 10 years have only gone 9-7 once… and that was their worst year. I don’t really care about the dynasty talk, but whatever it is… I’ll take it.

  69. portnoychunk says: Jan 24, 2012 4:15 PM

I’m not really sure how Pats fans are arrogant. All media outlets do is offer soundbites of players that hate the Patriots and the hater fans of other teams feed off of that. All Pats fans do is cheer for their team like any other fanbase would, especially when the team is insulted on a daily basis because of players like Bernard Pollard who are emotional infants that can’t handle losing with class and dignity.

I can understand not liking Brady because he has everything and then some and people might be jealous of that. However, all the Pats do is play hard, win more games than they lose, and compliment their opponent on a weekly basis. I guess that’s a recipe for contempt and hatred. Sure, you can cling to Spygate, but a rational person would see that the Pats are still a good competitive football team after all of that….maybe that just makes it even worse for opposing fans. There is no logical reason to dislike the Pats besides the fact that they win and people are sick of hearing about them because they win.

In this case, Bernard Pollard has turned himself into a villain (kinda like the Joker). Brady is the “golden boy”, so when Pollard hurt him, he took a lot of heat. He knows that moment will be bigger than the entirety of his career, so he’s made himself into a villain. He doesn’t care about the fans who abused him when he hurt their hero. I doubt he’d say anything negative to a Raven fan, and I’m a Giants fan.

Sometimes it’s just best for sore losers like Pollard to just recede into an earned sunset. Especially when you are a mediocre player like him, who trashes great ones like Brady and Gronkowski. Pollard whipped his leg around in some kind of a “Blood Sport” move on Gronk at the end of that tackle, if you watch. Sure seems like a dirty player to me, but unlike Harrison, I don’t hear any of his teammates raving about having him around, or see him making any game saving plays.

As for the Giants fans, why all the hate ? I like the Giants. I like Eli, love the Dline, like the way they play. Plenty of players and stories to like in NE as well. Pats and Gints are two teams that are the anti-Jets.

    Bernard is a bitter man.

The crybaby ratbirds deserved to go down in flames, and belicheat & insufferable pats fans definitely need to lose..although with brady you never count them out..giants have a lot better team. But betting against brady is like betting against jordan in his prime..ya just don’t do it…but we can always hope……..signed steeler nation!

    Context is a wonderful thing…

“Oh man that is fine and dandy,” Pollard said. “Like I said to a lot of people it is part of the game and this is what happens. If you don’t like it? So what. I am going to go out there and I am going to play me.”

    ================================
OK, it was taken out of context. These sites often do that to suite their needs, but that doesn’t change the fact that Pollard is still a jerk.

  92. jakek2 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:47 PM

I actually agree with Pollard. As a Giants’ fan, I was more afraid of Baltimore than N.E. Baltimore is just like S.F. but with a much better offense. That game would have been another slugfest that I don’t think my heart could have taken. This game will be Eli lighting up the Pats D yet again and Tom Terrific trying to keep up after repeated hits from the Kraken.

  93. amchez11 says: Jan 24, 2012 4:48 PM

I would hate to state the obvious…….but jeeez Bernard, atleast mix in a homie to throw us off

“You gotta look at the experience of the team,” Pollard said. “You gotta look at, What do the Giants have? They got a front four that is relentless. They got a secondary that is really, really good. They got a linebacking core that has been with them. The dinking and the dunking, man? It’s just not going to happen.”

“they got a front four that is relentless” – black dudes

“they got a secondary that is really, really good” – more black dudes

“The dinking and the dunking” – white dude

Pollard also noted that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered an ankle injury when Pollard tackled him on Sunday, and he said to Patriots fans, “If you don’t like it? So what.” – white dude

Imagine if he ever got his hands on a smaller white guy like wes wel……

First he takes out Brady’s ACL at a dive to the knee.

Then Welker’s ACL goes out against him.

Finally he tries to break Gronk’s ankle on a tackle.

F YOU Pollard you dirty POS. Go cry your sour grapes to someone who cares.

    ———————————————–

Of those three injuries, the most directly responsible one was the hit on Brady. Welker went down untouched, and the hit on Gronk was while Pollard was in the air. And if I’m not mistaken, didn’t Pollard immediately yell out, “I’m sorry!” the moment he hit Brady? I recall reading an article where he was interviewed, and he heard Brady’s knee pop as soon as he hit him, already knowing how serious the injury was.

Pollard’s not dirty. You can be bitter as a Pats fan since he was at least indirectly involved in those three injuries, two of which were serious. Pollard – and Ravens fans – can be bitter over the loss on Sunday for a while.

I’m a Ravens fan, and I can’t even bring myself to root for the Giants. I’m rooting for the same thing I had rooted for in Super Bowl 42 – a meteor will impact the Earth squarely in Lucas Oil Stadium in the middle of the second quarter, wiping out both teams and their obnoxious fans.

But who cares the season is over for us Ravens fans who are unfortunately becoming used to losing the big game. 2 AFC championship games in 4 years ain’t bad and the Ravens will be good for years to come!

Because Pollard wants the Giants to win is not sour grapes as it doesn’t take long to hate to the media darlings of the AFC (steelers, pats, jets). The only way the Ravens get any respect is to win a superbowl and they know it so maybe the losses are a little harder.

Not that it matters but at the end of the game the down and distance is wrong on the Pat’s scoreboard? Inconsequential probably but I doubt it was a co-incidence. Go Giants!

Suggs, Lewis, and Reed are the leadership of that team and all have acted with a sense of class before and after this game. As for the Patriots and Ravens being rivals, it’s just not there. The teams don’t play each other enough. The teams the Patriots play outside of the division that they have rivalries with are the Steelers and Colts and it looks like the Colts part of that equation will end as that rivalry was Brady vs. Manning.

And what team might YOU be a fan of Mr. Wrong?
It’s easy to hide behind a nebulous name and post a comment. Stand up and be counted.
Its no coincidence that the Patriots have been the most consistently successful franchise in the NFL since the Kraft family purchased the team. Under the previous ownership, the “Patsys” played in a horrible stadium – if you could call it a stadium – and the Sullivan family made no attempt to invest in putting a competitive team on the field. They didn’t have the financial backing nor did they want to spend what they did have on the team. They were too busy with get-rich-quick schemes like sponsoring the ill-fated Michael Jackson US tour. They didn’t deserve the fans who DID go to the games in spite of them. Yes, “Pats fans weren’t fans AT SOME POINT.” And anyone who knows their history knows why. The only way fans can protest incompetent, inept ownership is to not buy tickets. Its like any other business – you don’t spend money on the product. Nor was the ownership fan-friendly. Even the parking lots were unpaved. The Kraft’s immediately corrected these discrepancies, including building a new stadium WITH THEIR OWN MONEY, showing the fans that they were committed to winning. And winning they have. That’s why the Patriots have been sold out almost since they purchased the team and have a waiting list of thousands for season tickets. So much for history lessons!
Once again, it’s easy to be critical if you hide behind your anonymity. At least we KNOW who Bernard Pollard is! Now its YOUR turn. Or maybe like Pollard you jump from team to team each year, but in your case, depending upon the standings.

While I’m new at this and my technological skills are at the Computer 101 level, “Mr Wright 21″ connected me with your site that states, “Mr. Wright, Real Estate Man,” which certainly tells me a lot about your character if you are in that field, and “Catty Women in the Work Place,” which I didn’t bother to read. So, I apologize if somewhere in that article it states your NFL preference. Didn’t see or know where to look for the area code.
I did read your prognostications on the AFL and NFL championship games. I wouldn’t want my football acumen judged on those evaluations!
As for my history revisions, I notice you didn’t comment on those. And I forgot to add that Mr. Kraft, despite his wife’s deteriorating health condition, was also instrumental in helping to settle the walkout and is one of the prime reasons why you will even be able to talk about and watch the Super Bowl next Sunday!
If I could add one more item re: the future. The Patriots should be even better next year with four draft picks in the first two rounds in a rookie cap year. No more “trading down for value,” they’ll be able to add some valuable pieces to an already young team as Coach Belichick has been able to transition them from an old team to a young one without going through a rebuilding year. History lesson complete.
I must comment that I do like your style. I’m
sure it helps you sell lots of real estate when you deal with clients in this current market.

Yes they know something: the refs are going to cheat for NE, but then again everyone knows this.

They won’t get called for a single holding call, despite the fact they simply cannot block that pass rush all game without doing so. EVERYONE KNOWS IT.

  151. patpatriot7 says: Jan 29, 2012 1:48 PM

It’s always a pleasure communicating with Giants fans. Now if only the Giants are dumb enough to believe that “the refs are going to cheat for NE,” we’ll take that advantage in what will be a very difficult game against a tough opponent who are playing there best at the right time of the season.
Mr. Wright, who likes to make reference to history was critical of Patriots fans supporting their team, even though everyone knows that the only thing that the Sullivan ownership can be given credit for is that they brought an AFL franchise to Boston (New England), even though they did not have the finances to make the team competitive. In fact, they ultimately sold the team to James Orthwein (Budweiser family) knowing that he wanted to move the team to St. Louis. Then you wonder why New England fans didn’t support that team?
Mr. Kraft was a fan and season ticket holder. He bought the team and built a stadium using HIS OWN MONEY. That’s commitment and the fans responded in kind by supporting the team. They have had 100% attendance since (Not 87% or 92% or 98%, see Meadowlands attendance). The Patriots under the Kraft ownership have been the most successful team in the NFL and a model franchise that others have tried to emulate. Those are facts, despite Mr. Wright’s remarks to the contrary.
Of course, his own team is called the New York Football Giants, even though the baseball team moved to San Francisco in 1957. That’s a long time to remain confused. And they play their home games in New Jersey, not New York.
And, since you are a historian. Here’s some recent history. The New England Patriots have never called their quarterback “Hayseed” or questioned whether or not he should be traded. Nor have the fans called for the firing of our coach when the team got off to a slow start – not once but twice, including at the beginning of the present season.
So, while I questioned you as to what team you support (Mine is no secret. Sorry, I didn’t include my zip code, as if everyone knows where someone comes for by looking at their zip code, mine includes the name of the team. And I support them and will continue to support them whether they win the Super Bowl or not. That’s what REAL FANS do. They support their team and respect their opponents. It’s easy to throw out worthless trash, I guess. So, if that makes you feel good; then please continue to do so – even if it does make you look foolish to those of us who only know you by your comments.

I think Pollard speaks for pretty much everyone outside of New England who are tired of this pretty boy act. Go GIANTS!

  153. patpatriot7 says: Jan 29, 2012 11:37 PM

Thanks for chippin’ in Camden Yard. I would certainly like to have someone like Bernard Pollard be a spokesman for any cause I might be supporting!
And, thanks for being the spokesperson for the football fans of America.
Sounds like you and Bernard make a nice team. The weight of authority – representing all of those people – must weigh heavily on your shoulders.
Now, how about speaking for yourself.
What you SHOULD do is take a deep breathe, look at your own team and direct your displaced anger where it belongs. The Ravens are a good team. They had an opportunity to send the game into overtime and they failed. Replay the game over in your head as many times as you like, the final score will not change. Time to focus on next year.

How many SBs have you played in, Mr. P?

  155. 1historian says: Jan 30, 2012 6:26 AM

patpatriot7 – good post, but you used a lot of big words, so the haters are going to have to break out their dictionaries before they respond.

Suffice to say that 5 Super Bowl appearances in 11 years is a pretty good record.

  156. 1historian says: Jan 30, 2012 6:32 AM

Bernieboy – you LOST that game in 2008 where you made your bones and the Pats have beaten the Ravens 5 out of the last 6 times they played. With you or without – makes no difference.

Since the ravens won the title in 2001 the Pats have been in 5 SBs, counting this one. The Ravens? None.

Ask yourself the question – if you hadn’t made that hit on Brady in 2008 would you have done this interview?

  157. bozosforall says: Jan 30, 2012 11:37 AM

1hysterectomy…and yet your life still sucks. Then again, that’s what happens to losers like you who place all of their identity in how mercenary teams that they watch on TV do. Try living in the real world, mamma’s boy…instead of hiding in your mommy’s basement your entire life.

  158. patpatriot7 says: Jan 30, 2012 2:28 PM

First Pollard, then Mr. Wrong, now Bozo For All. What do you all have in common? Aside from similar personalities, which a reader can only assume, none of you ever offer anything constructive. If you weren’t spewing hatred, you’d have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SAY. Here’s another suggestion. Try construct sentences that actually express complete thoughts. So, if you have nothing of substance to present as to why the Giants should win, but want to continue your inane remarks, at least make them readable!
Now, let’s get back to comments that relate to the upcoming game. Of course, should you be a Ravens fan, its clear that you are having a very difficult time letting go! We feel your pain. For the week leading up to the American Conference championship game, we had to watch Ray Rice take the first hand off from scrimmage and run all the way for a touchdown. Thankfully, we moved on to Bruins and Celtics.

  159. patpatriot7 says: Jan 31, 2012 7:42 AM

Well. Twenty-four hours have passed and no response for either Larry (Pollard), Curley (Mr. Wrong) OR Moe (Bozo the clown). Perhaps they have finally taken the advice of many posters and are busily engaged in their anger management programs. Or maybe its because, if they can’t spew their usual vitriol, they have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of substance to offer. Whichever it is, it certainly validates the age-old adage that, “Silence (from some people) is golden!”

  160. dissed215 says: Jan 31, 2012 12:07 PM

Sorry patpatriot, perhaps you don’t understand that just because someone makes a statement that isn’t blowing smoke up Brady’s skirt it doesn’t mean that they’re bitter, or whining, or angry. Not everybody is a Patriots fan and everyone is just sick of trying to get that through the milky white chowder you call a brain.

  161. patpatriot7 says: Jan 31, 2012 1:16 PM

    dissed’

I appreciate your insightful comments. Now THAT’S what I call a statement! Finally, someone who wants to talk football and deal with the issues. You’ve certainly clarified all of the issues we have been discussing with the cogent points you’ve presented here. It’s always nice to have a rational discussion with a real football fan. Thanks for enlightening me. Now that I have read your well-thought out explanation, I completely understand your point of view on this matter.
It’s always a pleasure to have an intelligent discussion with a thoughtful, sensible, well-spoken, knowledgeable fan; even if they represent a different point of view.
Anyone who doesn’t think this is possible only need look at your last post! I especially liked “milky white chowder you call a brain.”
