Chargers promote Rich Bisaccia to assistant head coach-special teams

For a hiring cycle that was supposed to feature a couple of special-teams coordinators getting considered for head-coaching positions, not much has happened beyond today’s surprise report that 49ers special-teams coordinator Brad Seely will get a crack at the Colts job.

Another special-teams coordinator has gotten some extra consideration today, with the Chargers promoting Rich Bisaccia to the position of assistant head coach-special teams.

“Rich was a great addition to our staff a year ago and made a real impact on our team last season,” coach Norv Turner said in a team-issued release.  “He has a lot to offer our team and I’ll be leaning on his years of experience in all areas of our football team.”

The Chargers had top-level offenses and defenses in 2010, but a disastrous performance by the special teams helped keep San Diego out of the playoffs that year.

Bisaccia served as special-teams coordinator in Tampa from 2002 through 2010.  He held the title of associate head coach in his final three seasons.

If this guy never had a concussion why is this story a headliner? We all know that concussions are what matter to PFT. Keep the game safe and all”………..I say next year PFT sounds the trumpet against black and blue marks on NFL Players. Those buggers sting!

Conspiracy Theory: Promoting him cause the Bucs have secretly interviewed him too…Rich was the Assistant Head Coach when Gruden was still in Tampa wasn’t he?

Bisaccia would be the perfect HC for the Bucs. He knows the players and he knows Discipline. He has had the best special teams squads for the last 5 years on average.

And ST deals with offensive and defensive players who buy into what he is selling on a consistent basis.
