As a Saints fan I congratulate the Rams on getting Williams. He was the key to putting us over the top for a Super Bowl and he turned the Saints defenders into a rabid pack of voracious wolves that struck fear into opposing teams. Its not the Xs and Os with him, its the swagger. A lot of fans here in NOLA are trashing the guy for that last minute of the NIners game, but they forget all the other amazing plays our defense made this year. Just watch the Titans game, the Falcons game…people dissing the man don’t see the picture.

That said, now that he has infused our Saints players with that attitude, we more than welcome the exotic blitzes and pass rush strategy that SpagNOLA will bring to us. Hope to see you guys in the NFC Championship Game (on our way to our second Superbowl that is)

You guys crack me up with this “mediocre coach” stuff. In his first year heading up the Saints defense, Gregg Williams landed a Super Bowl ring. The next season, he put the NFL’s No. 4 ranked defense on the field. And that was years after overseeing the Tennessee Titans’ most-lauded defenses. Get a clue, people!

You know the sad thing about today’s NFL is that the Rams…THE RAMS are only about 3 Free agents and 3 contributing draft picks away from being next season’s 49ers. You got a core on O and D. You get the right missing pieces and they will compete.

With the way the Rams draft (poorly) and the type FA’s they seem to only be able to sign (nobody good/only players tied to HC past), good luck with that. Cloudy St. Louis is hardly sunny CA.

No, what the Rams need is someone (and the right players) to whip their OFFENSE into shape, so that what wasn’t a half-bad defense isn’t made to look like crap because they’re on the field all damn game and down by two scores…

Personally I think defenses that predominately bltiz are a thing of the past. Most of the highly effective and succesful defenses in today’s pass-happy NFL are ones with a strong pass rush at the DL with a good, timely LB/DB blitz package here and there. Williams will improve the Rams D, but eventually they’ll die by sword with his scheme. It has happened everywhere he goes and it happened all year with the Saints and cost them big a couple weeks ago.

Of course the culture will change. Late hits, big fines until league cracks down on Rams. Look at where Saints defense went when they got rid of 2/3 late hit crowd (exit A. Hargrove et al except for Roman Harper). Defense went in the tank.

This guy was basically why the Saints weren’t the “team of the century” this season. The offense had to literally strap that sorry excuse for a defense on their collective backs every game. Wanna know how great Drew Brees really is? That team won 14 games this season with possibly the worst defense in the history of the NFL.
