No, No, No, Peyton – you have to throw the management under the bus as a bunch of liars, have a three night session on Greta to do so, talk about forcing hands, start now talking with other teams (preferably division rivals), toss in a legitimate retirement somewhere along the line, and then, when the situation has by and large moved on, demand the starting job back like nothing ever happened. You deserve to be the de facto GM and are entitled to do and say whatever you want in getting it or punishing the team for not giving it. This is your team. You are above it and better act like it.

Jim Irsay is trying to do the same thing the Packers did to Favre- get him to retire/sit on the bench, in submission to the organization. It’s BS. You don’t force any superstar QB that gave your organization a SB Ring into a dormant state. You should have the courage of your convictions that he if can’t play well enough for you to start him, then he can’t hurt you playing for someone else. Or else pay him the money and shut up.

I would lie cheat and steal to get 25 mill. cant blame peyton for not fully disclosing injury..they have these dudes called team drs. and trainers to figure that out. They should cut peyton and try to resign him to a bonus ladened contract that way he can EARN his money. All contracts should be bonused ladend so you dont get the CJ2K fiasco again.

If Manning refused to delay the March 1st trigger date then we all know that it’s Manning who will be to blame for the divorce. If he genuinely is more interested in staying on with the Colts, then he would delay the payment until such time his neck heals and he’s able to demonstrate, without question, that it has not caused a debilitation that prevents him from playing at his previous level of play. Remember, Peyton has already robbed the franchise of $25,000,000 this year because he did not fully disclose the neck situation upon signing the contract.

Should Peyton choose to NOT delay the March 1st trigger date…. I think that tells us all we need to know about Peyton.

Robert Irsay was a drunk who meddled in the locker room, often coming in and yelling at players and coaches after games, firing HCs like Steinbrenner, uprooting the team, etc. Jim has been a model owner. Quirky? Sure. But a bad owner doesn’t have a SB win, another appearance, and 9 straight playoff appearances…Jim is not his father. He knows what he’s doing. This whole thing is a result of media hype BS. The Colts were a joke before Jim took over as owner, and he got them to be one of the best franchises in the NFL over the past 12 years….it was time to clean house though, as it is in many NFL franchises from time to time.

Oh and BTW, Irsay just paid Manning $26 million to NOT PLAY this season….and also tweeted he didn’t regret it. Manning is his guy…He just lost his cool b/c local a-hole Star writer Bob Kravitz keeps stirring the pot….He’s a joke of a columnist and never writes anything positive about the Colts, unless he absolutely must. He already has Manning on the way out of town, when we don’t know what will happen. I place most of the blame on the idiots in the media who have to spin and create hype to sell papers/get people to watch tv…like Skip Clueless for instance. Irsay is one of the best owners in football, and had the guts to make changes when they were needed. Whether manning is in the Colts’ plans for the future depends on his health. If he’s cleared, he’s back with the Colts, mark my words. You morons that know nothing about the Colts besides what you see on BSPN need to shut your pieholes, b/c you don’t know what Jim has done for this team (perennial laughingstock to perennial playoff team)

I’m not an Indy fan, nor have I ever been. I don’t know what’s going to happen, as does no one else, but Irsay should be so lucky to have a man like Manning work for him, put his name on Twitter, build that beautiful stadium, build a legacy for one of the long-standing organizations in the NFL…So, Mr. Irsay, with all due respect, you had better pray that Andrew Luck is half the man that Peyton Manning is…

Jim Irsay is just like dad. They have heaped disrespect on two of the greatest QBs ( Unitas and Manning) of all time. Watch out Colt fans. You had better support them or watch out for the mayflower vans.

You have no idea what you are talking about. First, Jim knew what his dad didn’t….that he shouldn’t meddle. He brought in Polian and let him run the show, producing a decade of winning only exceeded by the Pats and Steelers (who both, btw, missed the playoffs during the Colts run). He also knew Polian was slipping and his son Chris was unqualified to be GM (as evidenced by recent drafts leaving the Colts bereft of defensive talent). He is a quirky dude for sure, but he also gives fans and people around the city all kinds of prizes, cash, tickets (incl. Super Bowl tix) for answering trivia questions. This whole mess was blown WAY out of proportion by the media. Manning had a right to be upset, as did Jim….but the ESPN hype machine and Bob Kravitz just fueled the fire. Irsay has built one of the winningest franchises over the past decade by letting football people do their work. It was time to clean house though, and he had the balls to do it instead of staying with the status quo. Manning is great, but he’s not the owner. He’s also not cleared to play. If he is, I bet my house he’s on the Colts roster next year. Irsay will find a way to keep both Luck and him on the roster via clever salary cap moves, etc…

If Peyton can show he has gotten better, if not even perfect, I can see them restructuring the bonus to maybe guarantee the payout over the remainder of his contract or even 2 years and keeping him to avoid others from gaining him and/or his knowledge and to keep the revenue $$$ flowing into Indy. You know Pagano would love to have Peytons mind on the sidelines to help shape that offense. Clean house could cost the team more money in jersey sales, consessions sales and ticket sales which would far out weigh Mannings contract. Just a thought and hey…Irsay has said and done much stranger things as a little birdy tweeted to me!! (maybe I’m just not ready to think of life after Peyton..lol)

Makes me laugh how few Packer fans even know what happened with Favre/Rodgers. Look Pack probably made right decision moving on, it is how they did it that ruffled many. Favre threatened retirement because they were close to going all the way and he wanted Uncle Ted to sign a few free agents to push them over the edge, to make a last run, we all know Ted didn’t, he was using the only leverage he (Favre) had. Ted took it personal. The Pack hired former presidential spin doctor Arie Fleisher and burried Favre in media and you all bought it.
Ted didn’t sign that extra player last year either (think Cullen Jenkins or LB opposite Matthews). Lets see how long until Rodgers disagrees with Uncle Ted’s “one way” approach.

To refresh the memory of many, the first Favre talk of possible retirement occurred in October 2002. Every offseason centered around the possibility Favre may retire. With that in the backdrop, in 2005 Aaron Rodgers lands smack dab in the packers lap (and Favre throws a fit). End of the 2006 season, at the end of the last reg. season game in Chicago, an emotional Favre poses for a picture with the o-line and suggests he is tetering toward retirement. Fast forward January 2008. Because it is really cold, Favre clearly is not interested in being out on the field against the Giants despite there being a Super Bowl berth on the line. Favre throws another backbreaking interception. The pack gives favre until the middle of march to decide what he wants to do. Finally, the pack says, “uh, yeah Brett, we have this draft thing coming up and we’d really like to know if we need to draft a backup quarterback.” So Favre retires. Then, after long romantic conversations with Darell Bevell, he tries to make a sham of a comeback with the pack right before training camp, knowing it’s too late for him to come back (had Favre been welcomed back, it would have been good bye Rodgers).

No, as a lifelong packer fan and someone who lived and died with Favre for 16 NFL seasons (hell, him and I were born 28 days apart), that one is on Brett entirely.

I hope they release Manning. He does not need to retire a Colt. He was the only person to bring any credibility to this franchise in the last 30 years. They are blowing the franchise up and Irsay cares not one bit about anyone and their contributions to his wallet. If the 49er’s signed Peyton they would win SB’s 47 and 48. Alex Smith choked in the NFC game when it counted. He is not the answer there.

I have to laugh whenever a team issues a statement on behalf of a player. It’s called a spin job. The statements were written by lawyers and/or the the Public Relations department with very bland language that puts the player in the best possible light with no hostility or animosity.

Media outlets fall for this all the time when they say a ” issued a statement…..”. What a joke.
