The Raiders can’t stop the run. Not sure how much that’s going to change with the same personnel. Oakland is, as always up against the cap.
I think the person who posted the stats on sacks and interceptions didn’t realize those stats don’t matter. You aren’t going to be better than 8-8 if teams effectively pound you with with the run, and that is one Raiders constant over the long non-playoffs stretch. Raiders are going to have to get some inside heft to stop the run and free up their LB’s. It doesn’t matter what you do with your LB’s and safeties if your DT’s are getting pushed off the ball.
If Allen shores up the run defense and Palmer isn’t washed up…two big IFs…the Raiders could be interesting in 2012.

If this guy is a very good defensive coordinator and you want him to be part of your organization, you can’t offer him a lateral move. If you believe he’s going to be a HC, then you have to offer him your top spot. But it all comes down to how much you believe in him as a talent.

Keep Saunders at offensive coordinator calling plays and work that defense into something dangerous.

1) Shannahan was an offensive coach, Allen is a defensive coach.

2) Shannahan was hired and fired by Al Davis. Davis is dead. Allen was hired by Reggie McKenzie.

3) Shannahan was fired because he wanted to remove Art Shell from the coaching staff. Al Davis refused, fired Shannahan and promoted Shell. Allen gets to choose his own staff…that means hire and fire them. And Art Shell is not on the staff at this time.

How do these situations compare? RIDDLE ME THAT!

Exactly, really? I’ve said it before in a previous post, go look at these teams defense’s in 2010. Coach Allen took a dead last defense and improved it. Chuck Bresnahan took a top 10, maybe 11th overall defense and destroyed it. Everywhere he’s been (Allen) he’s improved the unit. I say Welcome Aboard Coach!
