  1. This guy is a beast on the field. Please Aldon, please don’t turn into a clown off it… There are too many of those already…

  2. Too bad. A mistake is a mistake, let’s be thankful no one was injured and he stays out of trouble. A great rookie year.

But celebrating NFL ROTY honors? He deserves as much consideration as anyone else, but I’m not so sure he’s the right choice.

The reason he only played 1/2 of the defensive snaps – in passing situations, is because he is overmatched in the running game. He also struggles covering targets in the passing game.

Not saying he eventually won’t, because he will – guys an animal. That’s not saying he was a one trick pony either, because he clearly wasn’t in a lot of ball games. Von Miller didn’t miss one tackle on the year (according to PFF) and had a true impact in the running game, while totaling 11.5 sacks and twice as many tackles.

It’s a close race, but Von is this years ROTY. It will be fun to follow both of them throughout their careers, very promising for both.

  3. Aldon Smith didn’t make many mistakes on the field this year. The only way to slow him down would be to hope he gets arrested before kick-off. The kid is a BEAST!

  4. Oh boy, he better not be the next Charles Haley. Too much talent to waste away doing stupid stuff like this.

  5. Damn bad news at least nobody got hurt. Have to use better judgement next time the nfl has a number players can call to be picked up while drinking.

  6. Forget the fact that every single player in the NFL can afford a limo, or a cab isn’t a car service that will pick you up so things like this are avoided provided to every single person in the NFL?
Do they think rules don’t apply to them or do they just not care?

  7. I really wish the NFL and the union would come down on these guys. There’s no excuse for this kind of stuff. It may seem trivial but it’s not. There are several alternatives to drinking and driving but people are either too stupid, too lazy or too arrogant to use them. Why not make it an automatic 1 or 2 game suspension for any player or coach charged with DUI that either refuses BAC tests or comes in above the legal limit in the state they are charged? These guys don’t get it and they won’t ever get it unless there is a certain professional consequence that they are aware of. Not much happens on the first one so they all treat it like a “freebie”. They almost always make some sort of deal but that shouldn’t lessen the issue.

  8. The league and the niners will do nothing, as long as guys can play, nothing will be done, some public apology will be made, and the fans of the game will just wait until the next story comes out about some player who has gotten into trouble and he is sorry, while laughing all the way to the bank with his next game check. If you have talent and can still play the NFL will welcome you with open arms.

  9. Hmmm. Tells us what we already knew, most of these guys aren’t very smart…. But in terms of next season? Really no implications, he won’t miss any of camp. Just stating the facts, not whether its right or wrong.

  10. Lots of players do worse and turn things around. Even more keep screwing up. I hope he takes the Ahmad Brooks path and grows up. Harbaugh is gonna rip him a new one

  11. When you’re rich, your money should be used like a crutch. But when youre stupid, you dont realize it.

  12. NFL has a special number that drunk players can call that will get them a limousine to pick them up and a driver to drive their car home. So any player that gets a DUI is risking his life and strangers life for nothing. This is beyond stupid. Calling Aldon Smith stupid is insulting to stupid people everywhere.

  13. I live in the area, but why do so many of these sport stars keep coming here??? Miami area must lead the nation in players getting busted.

  14. How can I barely make any money, but always take a taxi, but millionaire NFL players will never take a taxi or pay for a limo. Stupid!

  15. All the money in the world and these guys can’t afford a cab ride or pay someone from their entourage to drive them. Idiots

  16. The downward spiral.

I hope all you Frisco Fairies blame the Giants.

All the doo doo you talked leading up to the game.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAA!!!

“just another day at the stick”

    You guys are SOOOOOOOO tough!

  17. Common freakin’ sense – if you drink too much call a cab or a Town Car, just don’t hurl in the back seat of the Lincoln – that has a tendency to upset folks and it’s not good on the leather either.

It’s not like you can’t afford it – now how much do you think it’ll cost to defend yourself in court, and “buy off” your coach?

    What an ultramoron…….

  18. Wait a minute …….. dude is spending the ENTIRE WEEKEND in stir because he can’t make a lousy thousand dollar bail????

  19. Do they not talk about this in the rookie symposium? I mean vets do it too, but damn! Why do these idiots not know how to call a cab or get a limo?? Makes no damn sense at all……..NONE!!!!

  20. Very disappointing to see a young man with such talent try to throw it away like this. He couldve seriously injured himself or others. I’m as die-hard a 9ers fan as there is, but there is NO excuse for this. For all the “homers” that wanna call this man a “kid” YOU need to grow up a little. we cannot keep making excuses for these guys. I know these rooks come in young, but COMMON SENSE says do NOT drink and drive. They have SO many resources available to prevent this. I dont know what kind of disciplinary action should be taken here, but I hope he doesnt get off scott-free.

  21. That’s what I call forward progress!!! Wait it was a worse call than the “tuck rule”. Another great moment in 49er history. Way to go Aldon and don’t forget to watch the Giants take out the Pats next week!

  22. its funny to read computer tough guy NODOPELEFT talk $h!T about niner fans are faries and we we say were sooooooooo tough, who is the tough guy posting comments like that and hideing behind a computer, what a PUNK

  23. I wouldn’t feel comfortable letting a “driver” drive my Italian super car either Aldon. Although I’d also be smart enough to know that drinking and driving and 0-60 in under 4 secs can’t bode well either.

Oh the perils of being young, successful and rich! How stupid can you possibly be? It’s really disgusting.

  24. Haha everybody is so judgemental. Clean your own closet first before you come clean somebody else’s. Don’t act like you’ve never driven after a few drinks before or done ANYTHING stupid when you were young. We live and and we learn.

  25. If any of you have never drank more than 1 or 2 drinks and gotten in a car, then cast the first stone. Truth is a lot of people drink and drive, but many don’t get caught.

Its all about making a smart decision to not even drive. I can’t believe Aldon had bad judgment to do this, but I’m sure it won’t happen again. And I hope Harbaugh does get on him about it. But sucks for the kid to get some bad publicity after having a year like he did.

  26. Why is it every player in the NFL that gets a DUI always seems to be in Miami, yet Dolphin players hardly ever get popped? Guess some people just cant handle South Beach

  27. It’s funny how many people drink and drive every day but when an athlete does it the media makes them sound like the worst person in the world.

  28. he should have ran from where he was drinking at straight to the backseat of a cab the same way he runs straight to the bench and sits down when he makes a tackle or sack on 3rd down.

  29. @bird2jasun

sorry but Von Miller is celebrating defensive rookie of the year right not in Hawaii…how many pro bowls has Aldon Smith been to again? That’s right.

  30. As to why he didn’t get a cab/limo…

It’s inconvenient and you don’t feel like a boss when you do it. That’s basically what it boils down to.

  31. “Who’s got it better than us?”

    3 Answers:

    1. The Patriots and Giants
    2. Any team that doesn’t have Alex Smith as it’s QB
    3. Anyone driving around Miami with women and children in the car.

  33. Maybe the Niners will get to face the Bills next season so that we can watch Stevie Johnson do the DUI dance.

Are you two SERIOUS? I can honestly say that in all of my 44 years I have NEVER driven after consuming ANY amount of booze.

Getting arrested for DUI is more than just a “stupid” mistake.
