I love how the majority of you just take what the media says and then run with it. Manning will never play again? Manning is going to be cut? I saw the majority of blogs and news outlets saying it was almost assured that Tressel was going to be the next head coach. Even Dungy said that was what he was hearing. Then all of a sudden it was Pagano. Irsay loves riddles and games. He is a hippy. He's definitely not stupid. He did something his father could never realize. He hired people that knew football. He built success by using a business model to place the right types of people at the time in the right positions. Do any of you even realize that he played the entire 2010 season with the injury. That's right. It occurred in week one v. the Texans. The man had to go through some weird stretching and therapy to make it back on the field each half. And for another point, does anyone remember the fact that right at the end of the season he had started practicing again? Hi own teammates were quoted as saying that his passes looked crisp. Peyton was healthy enough to play at the end of the season. Polian shut it down. His son was a dumbass who couldn't draft or make healthy cap decisions. If you look at how things have worked out, might it actually be pissible that Manning was just irritated that he wasn't informed of such decisions. He thought he had more clout or baring in the organization than maybe he did. A new GM who has to deal with a legend, obviously doesn't want to have to deal with that if he doesn't have to. That's why there was no talk. It will take Grigson some time to fix the holes C. Polian helped create. Manning is healthy. He will play. Let's just see if Irsay sticks to what he originally said.

lowleadman,
I’d like to ask all of the posters who want Manning to come to their team. Has it dawned on you that Manning has had 3 major neck surgeries in the last 18 months, that he has been in the leage since 1990
---------------------------------------------------------------
Peyton Manning was the 1st overall pick in 1998. I agree that he's done though. Ask Sterling Sharpe if he regrets his decision to walk away with a similar injury to his neck.

Walk away while you still can Peyton!

Good for Irsay for telling the way it is and the truth.

It’s not you idiot fans or Peyton fangirl’s money that is being spent, it’s Irsays.

Wonder how many of you tools are going to not be cheering for Indy if Andrew Luck does well with the team in a couple of years,
====================================
Telling it "like it is" is saying that the NFL isn't like fantasy football? Wow, that's news!

If he were "telling it the way it is", he would have given an answer on Manning, who is all but out the door.

Thanks for letting us know that it's Irsay's money that is being spent. Most of us couldn't figure out what NFL owners did. You've cleared that up.

I'm not a Colts fan, but Manning should be treated better. He was instrumental in bringing a Super Bowl to town, getting a new stadium, and increasing the value of the franchise. Anyone could see his value to the franchise by through his absence last year. It's not an issue if Irsay releases him or not, but at least Irsay could "tell it like it is" to one of the players who has meant more to his franchise than most.

i personally would LOVE to (as a Redskin fan) sign Peyton Manning, draft in round 2 Nick Foles and then in either round 5, 6 or 7, draft Aaron Corp (who i also like) and have both of them learn for years behind Manning, but i doubt highly that Manning will be a Redskin and McNabb will be brought up when that is talked about.
====================================
It makes no sense to sign a quarterback coming off of a severe injury and then draft two untested prospect QB's who you don't even know will make it in the NFL or not, especially when you have other needs to be addressed. Then again, Dan Snyder would be just the guy to do it.

Sorry, but I'm not buying that Peyton is healthy, or ever will be healthy enough to play for anyone again. Hey, we're talking about his NECK! You screw that up, you are screwed for life. I can see James Harrison picking him up and slamming him to the ground, head first, and that, my friends, is the end of Peyton Manning.

How about a compromise? If Peyton can't play anymore for the Colts, the Colts hire him as the QB coach for whomever they draft at No. 1.

Jim Irsay is the NFL's version of Amy Winehouse.

Third… How many Indy Fans remember how Jim Harbaugh took the Team to within 1 game of the Super Bowl prior to Peyton’s reign? Peyton will fade just as another great Colt named Unitas.
.......................................

Yes, but the Harbaugh run and the Manning draft were a few years removed. Colts stunk it up for I believe 2 years (96 & 97) between those occurrences. There were also some woefully bad teams in the 80's following the move from Baltimore. I am sure there were some times in there where some Indy fans would have traded their firstborn for a playoff appearance. With the exception of last year, Indy was pretty much stenciled in to be playoff bound for the last decade.

Would love to hear some input on this whole sitution from an actual old school Indy fan (not those who became Indy fans in oh say 1999 or so when everyone realized PM was going to work out in a big way)........

The entire scene is rough.

Face it, if no PM in Indy for the last decade plus (Leaf selected #1 instead), chances are that the Colts are playing in LA by now. He saved the franchise in my mind.

On the other hand paying PM $28 million at this point is foolish.

Luck looks like the real deal, but any QB is a gamble. If they cut Manning and only go with Luck, the pressure on the kid is going to be off the charts-if the Colts start out bad next year the criticism is going to come fast and furious-especially if Manning goes elsewhere and starts lighting it up. Even worse, what if Luck breaks his foot in camp or something and you are looking at another season of Orlovsky (sp?)

Seems to me the best solution for all parties is to work out a 2 year transition plan (Manning delays the bonus) and Luck learns for 2 years from one of the best. Without those few years behind Favre does anyone think Rodgers could have stepped in as a rookie and immediately started off like a rocket? Granted Favre did not help him much but just being able to see the defenses, play calls, etc contributed greatly to Rodgers being able to step in when it was his time.

Would love to hear some input on this whole sitution from an actual old school Indy fan (not those who became Indy fans in oh say 1999 or so when everyone realized PM was going to work out in a big way)……..

Manning is done. Irsay just wants to see if there's any interest in him. To pay Manning $28 million to hang around is crazy. Cut him loose just before any contract obligation kicks in. And I don't feel sorry for Manning. The Colts paid him $24 last year for nothing and he already knows he'll never play again but he's still trying to milk the cow. With endorsements, he's made over $35 million each of the last two years. Forbes estimates his net worth well over $100 million. To make him sound like some altruistic hero who saved the Colts is ridiculous. He's been paid well and it's tme to retire instead of being greedy .

I do not think there is any precedent in the NFL where the starting first ballot HOF QB has a serious injury that may preclude him ever playing football again. Clearly if there was any health progress, Manning's camp would be spinning it. It is the media who is pressuring updates from Manning, Irsay, or anyone else who may have inside information. If Irsay chooses to use Twitter to make a direct statement to the public, that is much better than allowing the media to twist his words or meaning. Without any health progress by Manning, Irsay has to make a very unique business decision that no other franchise has had toface.

First... The Irsay Clan has never been too saavy in dealing with "public announcements". Remember how the Team vacated Baltimore?

Second... Organization knew Peyton was done the minute surgery was decided. So, let's purposely "throw" the season ensuring Draft Selection Placement to secure a topnotch QB.

Third... How many Indy Fans remember how Jim Harbaugh took the Team to within 1 game of the Super Bowl prior to Peyton's reign? Peyton will fade just as another great Colt named Unitas.

Fourth... With the "current concern" over player injury and the looming litigation potential, I'll bet Irsay's decision is based more on liability than on Peyton's health.

Fifth... Idiot or not, the Francise and the League will move on without Peyton until they figure out how to perfect cloning or making contacting the QB an executable offense.

Ha ha, gotta love the delusional Cowboys fans thinking PM is going to Dallas.

A. He's one sack away from being paralysed, so it would be a surprise if he played another down.

B. Why on earth would he want to play in the same division as Eli?
And that's IF he's healthy.

Unless Manning cannot physically perform, Irsay should be put away for letting - without a 2010-11 snap - arguably the best QB in the NFL walk. In the realm of conflict management, that can only be considered a dysfunctional, emotional, personality, manifest conflict. There's the way to win a championship - IDIOT! It is not Peyton's fault that the BONEHEAD paid him without a physical! I would demand HIS resignation for that alone!

There is no pill harder to swallow than watching irsay FINALLY make smart GM and coaching moves, and watch P get ran out of town in the middle of it. Are you telling me that peyton deserved to have a terrible defense every year he has been in the league? Having to score 30 points a game? Which he obviously did. Consider if he was healthy, none of this would be happening. Jim your eyes were FINALLY opened cause of a well timed P Manning injury. Fans have been saying for years, dump the tampa 2, dump caldwell and his staff, dump christenson, and most of all...Polian missed WAY more than he hit.....so for that, thank you. But cut Peyton? Not one single Indy fan is ok with that! Luck may be great....but he is no sure thing. Restructure, 2 yr 20 mil. Put it right on the table, if you can play, play! if you cant, this will be your last season in an Indianapolis uniform. Put an opt out clause in a new 2 yr deal! Please Mr. Irsay, we owe it to P...he is not bigger than the horseshoe, but put your sword away, if he can play. Please try and pair him up with this new defense, and great staff you are putting together
