Bowles joining Eagles, Castillo remains as defensive coordinator

J. Castillo

The Eagles have once again chosen Super Bowl week to make a surprising decision on their defensive staff.

Last year, they made Juan Castillo their defensive coordinator. This year, they are going to keep him with another well known name joining the staff.

CSNPhilly.com’s Reuben Frank confirmed Monday that former Dolphins interim head coach and secondary coach Todd Bowles will join the Eagles staff as a secondary coach. The Eagles are expected to confirm the move later Monday.

Frank hears, presumably from the team, that Reid never seriously considered replacing Castillo. Then why didn’t they say anything about his status over the last month?

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles showed interest in Steve Spagnuolo before he went to the Saints. Jeff McLane writes that the Eagles consider Bowles someone that will be a head coach someday.

So yeah, you can expect the drama surrounding the defensive coordinator job to continue in 2012.
