Reid has no accountability anymore. I was hoping that Lurie would start putting heat on him, but you can tell he feels none. Anyone want to bet that they make few changes to the team at all? Bet he doesn't pick a LB til the 3rd round.

He'll go DT, OT, WR(after he let's Djax walk) than DE DE DE, etc, than he'll sign Jarad Page to play LB. Next season is over already

@ skulman7:
Bowles has never been a defensive coordinator, so I sincerely doubt he'd be calling the shots.

_________________________________
All the lemmings spouting about them winning vs. losing teams at the end of the season is draining. Stop just repeating what you read and do a little research or, better yet, watch some games.

The Eagles had exactly 3 playoff teams on their schedule, 5 games vs. teams w/winning records. To say they "beat up" on lesser teams at the end of the year is misleading......they lost to these teams throughout the season.....so, their wins @ the end are not dimished. Additionally, 2 of their losses were to the 2 teams in the Super Bowl....

They did play better at the end of last year.

Mark Sanchez isn't a backup, but JP Losman, Stephen McGee, and Rex Grossmen were all backups at some point this year, by ability and not injury. As I said, three of the last four games they played were against backups and weren't competitive. The Dolphins were 4-9 at the time, the Redskins were 5-11, and an 8-7 Dallas without Romo is hardly competitive. It's not nonsense I'm speaking. I'm just not going to praise this team on blind faith. That's not fandom that's ignorance. I love them, but I won't and can't deny what I see. I just hope they prove me wrong, and will be more than happy if they do so.

I guess Mark Sanchez was a back up . Tony Romo was taking out because if he stayed he would've not finished that game . The last time everyone beloved Eli played philly two or so weeks before the four game stretch . I guess the giants ,Dallas , and the Jets wasn't trying to make the playoffs when the Eagles beat them , huh ? Look stop posting things that don't make no kind of since. What is funny how no team including the 49ers could get pressure up the middle on Eli every team wants to rush him from the outside . I wonder why that is every game they lost teams rushed him up the middle he moved and turned the ball over . Come from the outside he steps up and make u pay . Why have all the playoff teams chose to blitz him over 90% of the time from the outside ? Why did the Green Bay Packers think they actually could run the ball on the Giants ? Why was they in I formation more in that game then they were all year?

People saying that the defense was so good must have only watched the last four games. The first five tell a different story. It's true that Vick is a turnover machine, and his stubborn injuries plagued part of the season, but the defense is just as much to blame. Vick's injuries and turnovers didn't give up 46 points in the 4th quarter while losing 4 leads. Vick's injuries and the turnovers didn't use our recently acquired All-Pro press, man coverage cornerbacks in soft zones. Vick's injuries and turnovers didn't induce a scheme where a linebacker's ability to play the run is key while banking on a 5th round rookie who's only real claim to fame is his last name. Keep in mind that three of our last four wins were against backup quarterbacks on eliminated teams. The fact that this team went 8-8 with a 5th ranked offense and 8th ranked defense should be enough to tell anyone those numbers are irrelevant. Wins is the only stat that matters in this league and it was one of the team's poorest performances this decade. And don't give me that momentum builds into the next season story, either. Try and spin that one to all the Super Bowl teams who failed to make the playoffs the following year.

People are mad because the expectations for this team were Super Bowl or bust. That didn't just come as an epiphany to fans watching the Free Agency signings. Ownership and management said it themselves as well. This team has huge talent, save the linebackers, and the coaching staff couldn't figure out a system to get them over .500, let alone make the playoffs or reach the Super Bowl. The Eagles weren't the only team that had new coaches and a shortened off season. 49ers anyone? And they were coming off of a terrible losing season. There's another opponent to this momentum propaganda being spewed out by the Front Office. Bad is bad. Good is good. Last year means nothing. That's the truth. I'm tired of the excuses for these guys. They consistently get beat because other teams can adjust in the off season, or mid-season or mid-week or mid-game while the Eagles are still running with the status quo. When a team goes 8-8 and the owner comes out and rips the season apart, and then they sit quietly without providing answers to the people who pay their salaries only to have it leak a month later that they're not doing anything at all, still, people are going to be a little pessimistic going into next season. That doesn't make them poor fans; that makes them smart fans. People are mentally and emotionally, as well as economically, invested in this team, and it's getting frustrating watching them fail and treat their fan base like they don't know what's going on. Lurie himself is the one that said insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results, and most Eagles fans are starting to go insane themselves after 13 years without major change.

I honestly think the 2012 Eagles D is going to be a lot different from the 2011 D. Reid is not an idiot. He knows he needs to sit down and re-evaluate this defensive problem. Todd Bowles is going to control the whole secondary not just corners, hes a good coach and knows the secondary positions very well. I think hes going to come in a make an impact like washburn did last year.

I believe the eagles will also add one maybe two playmakers on D during FA and theres no doubt in my mind theyll use their first round pick on an LB, S, or DL. They played very well at the end of the season. So i wouldnt be surprised if the Eagles D came out and played with a chip on their next season

I think if you were not going to get a Spags, or another proven guy then this is the right move. Maybe they should have kept McDermott for a 2nd season, not like he had anyone to work with his only season as DC. Either way the Eagles should be better in 2012. Tough schedule, but give Reid an entire off season and his team should play better. I hope for the Eagles sake that Juan puts it all together.

Good move. Give Castillo one more chance, have Bowles in as a back up in case things go downhill fast. Please remember, Castillo was working with a NEW TEAM, NEW COACHES, SHORT PRE-SEASON/TRAINING, now there are NO EXCUSES. If he sucks, in comes Bowles, who the Eagles wanted LAST year...I'd say its a fire under Castillo's butt. You can't put all the blame on Castillo either, he can't be a scapegoat for bad tackling, subpar safeties, and super subpar linebackers.. I think he did okay when he had the formula towards the end. Give him a chance.

Have always liked Andy Reid. But as someone in love with defense, I'm personally offended that he named an unqualified Castillo his DC in the first place. And yes, Tiki, I'm flabbergasted he'd leave the guy in the position after a disastrous 2011. This season he'll deserve whatever Eagles fans throw at him--both figuratively and literally.

The Eagles tried to interview Bowles for the DC job last year and Miami blocked them. Great hire; it doesn't matter if Juan remains the DC officially, the defensive staff got better, and his job will be to "coordinate" as he likes to say. Juan's not a 'me' guy either, so if Bowles ends up getting credit for the defenses improvement, Juan won't care, as long as they improve.

Ok the whole defensive coach stuff, whatever let's address something real here for a sec, trim some of the fat and hype from the team and I want a superbowl in Philly as bad as any of the true fans do, personal opinion here fire Reid and please if there's any chance, PLEASE GET PEYTON MANNING not only a class act qb but with our receivers and the way that guy plays the game guaranteed we go deep in the playoffs next year or just get rid of him and I dont know celeck McCoy and 1 or 2 more quality players and snatch up ochocinco and PAC man jones, that's a realistic Philly move, bring Philly a superbowl already!!

As a Dolphin fan I'm sad to see Bowles go. I honestly thought after him fighting it out with the Pats and wining the other two games would have made him the head coach for next season.

Bowles is going to make a great head coach one day and I hope one day soon he get's his chance. Thanks for all of the great years in Miami Mr. Bowles.

Why are people so impatient and down on Castillo? New DC, new personnel, in a lockout shortened season. Even with all of the media scrutiny and turmoil that the world threw on the organization, they finished the year strong and actually were a Rex Ryan chokejob against the NFC champions from being in the playoffs. Have some patience, and look at teams who have a record of cleaning house after a year of underachieving. None have really rebounded particularly well. I mean they still owned the division. Give it some rest folks! Juan is a fighter he'll get it together....

As a Cowboys fan, I feel your pain.

It's a strange division - despite all the little changes, in some ways it feels like the whole division has been stuck in the same frozen-in-time state for about the last 10 years. And only the Giants seem to end up benefitting from it.

To all you so called philly fans . Do not and I mean do not jump back on the bandwagon next year when they run through the NFC east like last year ,yeah they lost the division but went 5-1 in the division . Now every team is going to beat them somehow if they couldn't last year what makes you think they can this up and coming season. Good hire no doubt .
