I used to say that there is nothing as sad as watching an athlete who was once great stay on longer than he should. I have to amend that to this – Peyton Manning fits that description (look at his gut in the picture) but IMO he is one big hit away from a wheelchair and that would be a new level of sad.

======================================

Morons: He’s at no greater risk of “one big hit from a wheelchair” than any other QB!!! WHAT DON’T YOU IGNORANT FOOLS get about that??? I see it posted all the time and it’s completely inaccurate! The fusion surgery strengthened his neck, not the other way around. God you people are ignorant. Stop posting stuff you know nothing about, or at least read what doctors have been saying about his procedure. If LBs and RBs can have the surgery and continue to play, I don’t think Manning is at greater risk than those types of position players of being paralyzed….If he can’t play it’s b/c the nerve in his arm won’t regenerate enough. End of story

Dan Patrick said this morning that he talked with someone in the know who said Peyton has 0% chance of playing again.

Would the Peyton fangirls here answer this. Would you pay a someone $28 million dollars out of your own money if you knew there was a good chance that they would ever play again?

I agree 100 percent. These people and the media are blowing this thing way out of proportion. Paralyzed? If he retires it won't be because of his neck problems, supposedly those are better. It would be because he can't throw the ball 50 yards on a rope. Thats the biggest issue, not his neck, his legs, or his contract. Its him throwing the ball without no numbness.

In terms of arm strength its not that he's lost "strength", more so some feeling from what I understand isn't there yet. Its gonna happen though, even if it takes another 6 months, he's gonna play again, why can't people accept that its just not gonna be with the Colts.

sorry Shefter, 5 years ago? maybe, 2012? not so much. if Peyton can play at all, he might have one year left of rusty weak play left in the tank. I also doubt there are that many teams going out of their way for him.

Scratch out all teams that have consistent starters, scratch out all the other rebuilding teams and there's not a whole lot left.

Most high profile FA ever? Not even close. he might not even be the most coveted free agent this season.

This from the guy who lied to the Colts about his neck surgery to sign a $20 million plus deal when he knew he wouldn’t even play a snap this year? You know why the Colts stink? Because they can’t find room in the salary cap due to a QB who thinks it’s HIS team.

Peyton has stated that it was HIS idea for Indy to have the option to back out after the first year (this past year) BECAUSE of his injury you jackass. Do your research the next time you decide to open your mouth you moron.

No one seems concerned that even if Peyton plays again, he might be so limited that he is no better than a backup in another team's system. One difference about Farve was that he could take the field without concern for injury - he was an ironman. Whatever team Manning plays for will have to be in max-protect all the time - which limits the receivers and routes that Peyton uses. Surely that is one reason Irsay wants to move on.

Does anyone remember the injury Drew Brees had, that got him axed by the Chargers? I'll bet Nick Saban remembers it. It cost him his job in Miami. Peyton says he can play; that's it. Is he doing it for a big signing bonus? Not likely. He has more money, with endorsements, now, than any other player in the NFL. I would not be surprised if, like Drew, he came back stronger than before. If Indy lets him go, and bets on an unproven talent, they just might have to move, under cover of night. Again.
That's all I'm saying.

He's trying his best to not be a distraction, but the dumbass media, including PFT keep on hyping a bunch of baseless rumors. It's really sad b/c the focus should be on Indy and what a great show they're putting on as SB host....so he had to come on and set people straight....sources my butt, Peyton's been on lockdown regarding his recovery till now, and w/ the rumors that he's not recovering well/is doomed for retirement, etc...I guess he finally had to come out and squash that stuff. He has never been a "look at me" guy (commercials notwithstanding) in terms of media relations, so to hear all this crap DURING super bowl week, this was his chance to hopefully shut everyone up. It's not about the $28 million, b/c if he isn't healthy he doesn't get it. So why come out and lie?? It's not also about boosting his trade value b/c no one will take him if he's not healthy, and Irsay has repeatedly said he's a Colt if he is! Schefter, Mort, Clayton, all look pretty stupid right now. They've missed on a ton of Colts "breaking news" lately. They missed on Caldwell staying, most of the coaching hires, etc. And now they're just throwing crap out there to generate hype. Same goes for the local Indy hack, Boob Krapitz...When PM speaks it's damn near always the truth. Has been his entire career. When he called out his line after getting sacked about 53 times against the Steelers he was telling the truth....and he put it the nicest way he could given how frustrated he must have been ("there were some protection problems")...

"Everyone was saying that the winless Colts were trying to ‘Suck for Luck’, but what if Luck actually sucks. Half the pundits expected Blaine Gabbert to be a better QB than Cam Newton and we saw how that is working out. Draft picks are not a sure thing, but if Manning can get healthy he certainly is the face of that franchise."

Dude, nobody thought Gabbert was better than Newton. I followed it pretty closely and of the dozens or so sites that did mock drafts I didn't see a single article claiming Gabbert was better. There may have been some debate about who would go number one but not about which QB was better. Luck is the consensus number one like Newton was last year and usually those guys don't fail.

What would be just as interesting to see is how long of a contact Manning gets based off this injury. What teams are the best fit? I say Arizona or San Francisco, because of the pieces they have in place, the division they play in, and both teams can win right now.

Here a known fact my friend. ESPN came to LeBron about the show. Look it up. Besides is your life that bad that a man who did his 7 year contract and became a free agent in Cleveland and wants to see something different angers you. All of your anger is racial because it's NBA. ESPN is behind the decision so be mad at them, but being angry at LeBron is easier. Well isn't that fitting.

Not happening!
I’ll say he may TRY and play in 2013…but any fool would realize 2012 is not in the cards.
This reminds me off the scuttlebutt when he was potentially not going to start the first game..when the powers that be KNEW he was done for the season….no difference here!
I can’t believe the suckers that buy into this hogwash!

Wasn't Ryan Leaf a sure thing too? And David Carr? And Brady Quinn? And a million other consensus top picks?

A team can't assume that their 1st round QB is gonna be any good, because, in fact, most of them aren't. If they were, do you think half the league would be looking for their 'franchise quarterback' year after year?
