Todd Haley interviews with Steelers

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley yells at officials during the first half of his team's NFL football game against the Chicago Bears in Chicago Reuters

Apparently, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin learned enough about Todd Haley while doing homework on the former Chiefs coach to decide to learn even more about him during a face-to-face meeting.

The Steelers announced on the team’s official website that Tomlin interviewed Haley on Tuesday at the practice facility in Pittsburgh.

There’s some scuttlebutt in media circles that Tomlin and the Steelers are considering Haley as a courtesy, given that his father played for the Steelers in the 1960s and thereafter worked in the team’s front office.  Todd Haley once served as a Steelers ball boy.  Even if the Steelers aren’t interested in hiring Haley, interviewing him — and declaring that they have done so via the team’s website — could help him generate interest elsewhere.

Haley’s name has been mentioned in connection with the Jets and the Cardinals.  Though his contract with Kansas City ran through 2012, the Chiefs reportedly have cut off his payments.  If that’s true, he has plenty of reasons (possibly several million) to be looking for a job.

he was a very good o-cord in AZ, but with a pass heavy offense that he tends to install, i’m not sure how great of a fit this is based on Rooney’s views

I’d be shocked if the Steelers hire Haley.

Think he would be a good fit, his boyish good looks would make him a perfect a candidate for Pig Bens New Wingman.

I wonder if Haley will want to sweep the conference room for bugs before the interview.

    You never know who’s watching . . .

Pittsburgh is the guy’s dream job. Hope he gets it. He should get more credit. I still think he got canned here in Kansas City way too early.

One bad loss and this guy will tangle with Rapelessburger no end. He’s exactly what the Steelers don’t need.

Hey, Todd! No one likes you! Not AZ, not KC, no one one likes you!!!

@sellout3871, why doesn’t everyone in Cincinnati worry about finding dbs with enough balls to tackle someone and/or winning a playoff game this century before they start questioning our personnel decisions.

  16. wte1 says: Feb 1, 2012 6:03 AM

Did Haley check the interview room for listening devices before talking to Tomlin?

So your saying Todd and Ben will be fighting because Ben will be throwing his way to his what how many 3 he’s what 2-1 in the big show . So how many rings does your QB have ?

  26. burghman says: Feb 1, 2012 9:07 AM

If he can catch an easy TD pass without dropping it, or kick a 32-yard field goal, I think the Ravens could use him….

Tom Brady he knows how to not get teebowed.. he will have 4 sunday.. with out a defense giving them to him

  29. geezohman says: Feb 1, 2012 10:40 AM

here i thought i read all there was on NFL… whats with the Todd and phones being bugged? (my guess, he must have made a comment about it once).

A PA boy… may have a chance but like everyone says… courtesy, since his Dad was here.

Will probably go to the QB coach. But the steelers I’m guessing and me… want more !

Tired of ‘barely’ beating a team… RIng up those points and we don’t. Not aggressive enough with BA and Ben. Don’t go out and just win… find a way to ‘easily’ score points.

We always dumb down to certain losing teams and sometimes lose. We have won so much, we think each game is easy. Hope they learned their lesson in Denver. but go back over the schedule over the past 10 years and we dumb down alot.

Get me a go at them’ type of OC… much like the Defense does…

  30. Deb says: Feb 1, 2012 12:01 PM

I want a real OC–someone who can make offensive adjustments in-game … like the ones Arizona made during SBXIII. Haley is a nut, but he’s a real OC. And he’s got a Steelers pedigree. I’d be thrilled with the hire because it would be outside the box. If we promote Fichtner, we might as well have kept Arians. Come on, man. Ben needs someone to push him. Haley definitely knows how to push.

  31. blackngoldimmortals says: Feb 1, 2012 7:41 PM

I kind of believe him that his stuff was bugged….I mean think about it, his boss is the same man that was in NE during spygate.

  32. surfwater says: Feb 5, 2012 3:01 PM

Looks like Haley’s in- here’s advice he needs: Haley should take the job and think of the steelers 3 goofy egomaniac lyingst QB’s as animals he will train. Roethlisberger needs serious training to obtain the necessary gaming behaviors seems like Rooney wants. Haley has to be stronger he is not their friend he is who must be obeyed. Roethlisberger has called a lot of plays that cost the last OC chump his paycheck.
