on the real though. If this guy makes the squad he probably has the effort and ability to be an asset on this squad. Good luck to him. Go Steelers baby.

@macker1283:
that scholarship offer is on the table ONCE and it has an expiration date, then you’re back in the pool with the other applicants. so he made the right decision, hands down because as you can see, the NFL was still there when he completed his studies.

@vikingsprimetime:
has it ever occurred to you that football is still his passion? most people have to wait until retirement to pursue their passions in life, or at least until a much later age than this. the scholarship is a ONCE in a lifetime opportunity that opens doors not many can enter. his priority is obviously the totality of his life’s accomplishments, not merely playing football for a living (which he’s still going to be able to do).

would have been shortsighted to let that scholarship opportunity pass him by, never to return again, just to squeeze 2 more years out of the front end of his playing career. i figure if he’s still got the talent to stick on a roster, then he didnt lose out on anything

Macker1283: I agree with you. What are his priorities? Obviously the guy made the right choice by accepting the Rhodes Scholarship- but why does he feel like he has to make it in the NFL? He is very bright and could go wherever he wants with that, academically. What message does this send besides PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES PULL IN MORE BANK THAN ANY SCIENTIST/DOCTOR EVER WILL?

Good for you for being a good player in college at a big-time school, Myron, but now you are just wasting your time.

Have to agree with those that had hoped that this smart guy would end up in B&G. It would seem that he has the intelligence to learn the intricate reads that Troy and Ryan have made for years. Time will tell if he has the physical tools to make the plays.

Best of luck to you, Myron. My bet is that you'll not only make the roster but will also become a fan fave just for having one of the legendary first names in Steelers' history. Myron Cope invented the Terrible Towel and was one of Pittsburgh's most beloved sports announcers.

This guy is a great story. I remember reading about him a couple years ago. Players like him and Tebow make the NFL much more exciting. I love rooting for underdog players. Guys who might not have the goods, but they have certain intangibles that might outwin in the end. ... I love the movie "Rudy" too.

Go Myron Rolle!

Actually, tebowspeech, Harrison is an extremely literate guy ... when he's not putting his foot in his mouth ... sigh.

Love Rolle, love this signing. Would love to see him tap his college potential and make the team. We need depth at that position, and he was once a promising player as well as an accomplished student.

I gotta say…for someone that scouts said “didn’t care enough about football” when he was in the draft…you would think he would have just given up by now. With that said, if he really did care this much about football, why didn’t he just put the anthropology stuff on hold seeing that will ALWAYS be there, and football is dependent upon you being in your prime physical shape. He probably made a bad choice all things considered.
=====
The guy is a Rhodes Scholar. Do you have any idea how prestigious that is? There has never been more than 90 scholarships awarded in a single year. That's not something you just "put on hold." If you actually considered all things, he easily made the better choice.

Being a Rhodes Scholar is a once in a lifetime amazing opportunity....It's not like he just took a year off for grad school, that program enriched your life and opens up a lot of doors ...
